I have a Samsung 24" LCD computer monitor. While I was cleaning one day, I had the monitor set on the floor, and it fell over. Since then the monitor does not display anything usually. Every once in a bluemoon it will actually work and display the desktop, but rarely. I attached some pictures to show what typically happens when I turn it on, it will cycle through a few screens as shown below

After the cycling a few times the monitor just turns white, and a black color slowly starts to creep in as shown below

Does this look like something a repair company might be able to fix? Ive sent out several emails to local companies earlier this week, but have still not heard back, so maybe its beyond repair. Im not ready to part with it just yet.

Usually anything can be fixed, however the real question is if it makes financial sense. Not sure what exact model and cost of that monitor is, but I would assume the cost of repair could possibly be as much or quite near the cost of a new one. I could be wrong, but replacing some kind of board or the LCD panel wouldn't necessarily be cheap.

With that being said, depending on how handy you are, you could look on eBay for a parts monitor of the same model that may have a cracked screen and swap your panel with the bad one. That should work assuming your screen isn't the real problem. Can't imagine just tipping over would break something, but I'm sure stranger things have happened. Guessing maybe a board went flaky. But maybe some connection just got wiggled loose. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

how old is it, you could have simple knocked the backlight loose or broken it, you could have also looseing the inverter.

I fixed a 22" Samsung a few years ago, but that had a relatively obvious power problem, which turned out to be a few swollen caps.  It's still working today.

First thing to do is spend a lot of time researching what the issue is likely caused by.  If you're able to track down the problem, or at least get a list of things to look for, then you'll be in a better position to decide if you want to spend the time and money to fix it.  Some are easy, such as soldering on a few new caps, but it may be a lot more complicated if it's a backlighting issue or another issue in the monitor.

If you decide to fix it, we'd all love some pics of the job!

    No, its not worth fixing.
You can get a better monitor for 100-150 bucks.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005619 this is 159.00 and will have a much better image then the outdated Samsung TV/monitor.

Yeah, the issue usually isn't whether the monitor is fixable; it's whether it's even worth it to try in the first place.  If the cost to fix it starts to approach the cost of a brand new monitor with better specs, then it's time to consider that fixing the monitor may not be in your best interest.

Well good news and bad news. I was able to fix the monitor, it turns out a few of the connections inside were just loose. The bad news is I cracked the front panel trying to pull the monitor apart. See the image below to show the part of the front panel that I cracked. Is there anyway I can get a new front panel from Samsung or possibly second hand from a parts store somewhere?

I am not even certain if "front panel" is the correct term for this part.

Glad you got it working, but bummer about the cracked bezel.  Front bezel would be most likely what you will find it called.  I think it would be pretty difficult to get one directly from Samsung.  That would typically not be a replacement part, so doubt you would be able to find it.  Best suggestion I can think of is to look on ebay and see if anyone has that piece or a parts monitor that you can swap out the bezel for.  Good luck and keep us posted what you end up doing.

You may buy a used or even non-working one and replace the bezel or the whole shell. Check it out at repair shops.

You can buy a new one or used one. Labor and parts are too high for a 5 year old monitor.

I have had good luck with laptop displays from amazon and ebay for $50-70. The bezel shouldn't be much money.

I found a replacement for the front panel, the part is about $45. Its not too pricey, but for a 5 year old monitor if I am going to consider replacing the panel, perhaps I should just buy a new monitor. Its not the cost of having to replace the monitor, more so I feel attached to this thing and it has sentimental value to me almost.

In the mean time I tried a quick fix, painting in the crack with a permanent marker. You can't really notice its there anymore unless you really look for it. Take a look and let me know what you guys think. The crack is just cosmetic, the front bezel snaps on just fine.

As much as I am a perfectionist and am annoyed at defects or scratches/cracks in my things, I think it would be hard to justify $45 just for that piece on a 5 year old monitor.  I would just live with it or try to find a used part cheaper.  Since it doesn't affect function, just keep an eye out on ebay or whatever and never know, might come across one cheap some day.  I can't even notice it in the picture.
