I'd like to be able to install my GPU in the most convenient slot as far as space management goes..

I'm using an ASUS X79 Deluxe motherboard. The specs for the board state:

"3 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (dual x16 or x16/x8/x8) *1
1 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x4 mode)
2 x PCIe x1"

HOWEVER, the manual indicates all of the expansion slots as being x16. I'm assuming that this means that any of the slots will run my GPU x16 and that I could SLI 2 cards in x16 or SLI 3 cards in x16/x8/x8. Yes? Can I place my card in the most convenient slot?

What this means it that the first slot is the one listed, so it is x16.  Then each slot after depending on the SLI or crossfire configuration.  Here is a link to the manual http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2011/X79-Deluxe/E8419_X79-Deluxe.pdf look on page 1-23 at the top of the page and it will show you which slot it which in SLI.  Looks like slot 1 is always x16.  In two-way SLI slot 4 is also x16.  In three-way SLI then slot 1 is x16, slot two is x8 and slot 4 is x8.  Needs to be per the manufacturer's instructions per the users manual.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

it depends on the motherboard, on some boards if its not in the very top slot it won't detect it

Hello again Mike! Thanks once again, for your assistance. I see, so basically with one GPU I have to cramp it up in slot 1...since slot 4 will only run x16 if it is 2way SLI.

One other, unrelated question: if you look at the motherboard layout on 1-2-2 you'll notice I have a 4-pin CPU_FAN and 4-pin CPU_OPT headers. I am using an H110 which has a pump and two separate fans. The manual simply states to "Connect the pump power connector to any available 3-pin or 4-pin fan header on the motherboard". Does this mean to connect the pump to any of the CHA_FAN headers and connect the 2 fans to the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT headers?

I did some google searching and found this http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=121430 where a "Corsair Product Guru' commented (two posts up from the bottom). From my understanding of what is being said there is that the two fans should be plugged into the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT headers and the pump should be plugged into a 4-pin molex to 3-pin fan adapter which would be plugged directly into the PSU itself?

It's important that you put the 3-pin pump power connector on the 4-pin CPU fan header so that it will run at it's full rated speed at all times, as it should..If you put it on a chassis fan header, it will be pulse width modulated and won't always run at full speed like it should because Q-Fan or Fan Xpert 2 will take control of it unless you disable Q-Fan for that header in the BIOS or manually run the header at full speed with the Fan Xpert 2 software.

You can connect the radiator fans to any chassis fan headers you want to and then choose to control them with either Q-Fan in the BIOS or the Fan Xpert 2 software..Q-Fan has limited control over the fans compared to Fan Xpert 2 which is mucho more customizable..Running the Fan Auto Tuning in Fan Xpert 2 will override Q-Fan by making static changes in the BIOS to the Q-Fan settings..You can get the latest version of AI Suite (and other things) from the ASUS support website for your mobo.

Yeah, I finally figured out that turning off Q-Fan for the header and then restarting BIOS would give the pump the ~1500RPM that it should have.

hi one other thing to note is you have to set cpu fan in the BIOs to adaptive because it is a 3pin connector or it will not detect it and give you a error when booting up i.e. CPU fan error
one other thing that might be of concern is if you have some monitoring software that came with your H1001 it could conflict with AI suite  so if you get a conflict  just uninstall the software that came with your sealed water loop H1001
it will work just fine from the BIOs cpu controller it will run full all the time which you need it to do
and enjoy your system good luck

On some boards if the CPU fan is plugged into the cpu_opt space it will also give you a no CPU fan error.
