Hi guys,

Can someone tell me if you use 3D vision with a 1080 gtx does it do a single  pass in stereoscopic now so your fps isn't cut in half?

You're delivering a separate image per eye. Sooo...that doesn't seem likely.

Doesn't the Simultaneous Multi-Projection solve this? It can do 16 Simultaneous Multi-Projections in 1 single pass.

You're still rendering two frames, one for each eye. Simultaneous Multi-Projection is for surround.

I think 3D vision is separate and not sure if that is updated to take advantage of new 10 series tech.

Simultaneous Multiprojection is for VR which needs the separate viewpoints for each eye. This doesn't help with 3d Vision which uses active or passive glasses.
I believe the Ansel technology does the surround perspective distortion. This corrects the viewpoint problem, for some games flight sims, it could use both to expand the view for side monitors.

I don't see why it couldn't work for 3D-Vision.. but I bet it won't.  Seems like support for it needs to be baked into the app pretty deeply.

    CPU: i7 5820k
GPU: 970 SC (soon to be 1080 ACX)
    Displays: BenQ W7000, HTC Vive
    Storage: 2x 1TB SSD's, 2x 300GB Velociraptors and a 3TB 7200 RPM drive (no RAID)
    RAM: 32GB

3d Vision uses active shutter glasses, so it displays a different frame to each eye. SMT is designed to show both frames at the same time with slightly different angles of view. It would depend on the driver to hold the split frame over. It is really basic 3d technology, nvidia will probably focus on VR instead.

Does Nvidia even support 3d Vision anymore? Just like I said years ago, it was an Nvidia gimmick that died. Last time I tried 3d Vision, there were so many newer games that didn't support it that I just uninstalled the software.

Yes, they do. System still works. Tomb raider is awesome on it.

This thread is full of misinformation. SMP works with 3D Vision, VR, and Surround, but it requires the developer to support it. 3D Vision has two modes - Automatic and Direct.

Automatic mode is when the driver hooks into the game and automatically draws the left and right eye views. The driver handles all functions such as depth & convergence. I don't know it's even possible to introduce SMP in the driver without modifying the game.

Direct mode is when the game uses NVAPI to handle all 3D Vision functions such as depth & convergence. The game is entirely responsible for generating the left and right eye views and must handle the depth & convergence settings itself. The developer can take advantage of SMP here.

The good news is Unreal Engine has a native stereoscopic renderer that supports 3D Vision Direct. This code is probably shared with the VR code and may also take advantage of SMP. Can someone confirm this?
