Hey guys,

I think I stepped up to the wrong card. The site was down and I based the "Ste-UP" strictly by the price (founders edition = $699 vs ACX @ $619)

If you could step-up to the EVGA 1080 ACX 3.0 or the Founders edition what would you choose?

Typically EVGA does not allow "Step - Up" for their classified cards and that wont be released for a few months. At this point if I change what I wanted I assume I will lose my place in queue and get even farther behind.

Any ideas?

I've been trying for 2 hours to get to the product page to compare the 3 1080 cards available in Step Up. According to your image the ACX 3.0 and FE are the same specs except for the cooling...Wonder why so much of a price difference? Is the power supply more? Does anyone know the difference between the two cards?

Yea well the EVGA product pages would indicate the founder and the ACX 3.0 as "Good" performance, so they rate them the same.  There should be better opportunity to overclock the ACX 3.0 as its a better cooler, so it could be considered better if you overclock..

I'm still bit confused though because the product table also shows a 'plain' 1080, with "Great" performance even though its clocked the same as the ACX - so maybe I stepped up to a ACX when I should have ordered the plain one? (it was available on EU step up)

Yea I don't get it, the plain 1080, 08G-P4-5180-KR for $609 reads the same as the $699 Founders Edition.
Whish I could get the product page to open to check it all out. My Step Up ends TODAY!!!!

The $609 card doesn't have the same cooler as the Founder Edition and probably doesn't have a backplate.

I went and got the founders edition since I couldnt see the difference in specs until I was done. The founders was $699 and the ACX 3.0 was $619.99

I can't tell the difference except by the cooler, makes you wonder if the founders edition O/C more.

Too bad they dont have a classified for me to "Step - Up" too

Well honestly I'm not concerned about the "cooling Fans" at all. I may have to rebend some tubing though if the waterblock terminal doesn't line up to my loop

Just need to find out which is the better performing card to Step Up to so I can get in the cue waiting line

I thought step up was only to base level model video cards? E.G. never Kingpin or Classified cards.

And the founders edition card will need a more aggressive fan profile to keep from thermal throttling. Hopefully the ACX 3.0 wont have that issue with GPU Boost 3.0.

So doing the step up from a 980ti classified you are only able to go to the normal PCBs not uograded ones correct? That seems rather stupid...I'd pay the extra cash to get a better PCB with more over clocking then the stock board.

Correct Rowne, only 3 options for Step Up; Founders Edition $699.99, ACX 3.0 $619.99 and apparently a stock 1080 for $609.99. Which is sort of crazy considering I paid $639 for my 980ti Classy.....

    Hi,

I can confirm that all of the EVGA GTX 1080 cards have backplates.

Also please take note that the Founders Edition is available for shipping starting today and the queue has started moving forward.  The other EVGA GTX 1080 models will be available for shipping around mid-June, so the Step-up queue will not move forward until available for shipment.

Since your site is down, can you confirm the specs on all 3 reference cards?? Are they all the same, except for the cooling, does one offer more performance, OC'ing, power, free stuff?..... A $90 difference in price is a big deal if the only difference is cooling fans?!

I thought the SC model is a different design? Or does that just means it's got a higher clock but is essentially the same as the 3.0 account model?

Just higher clock. It's model number 08G-P4-6183-KR. Maybe better ASIC quality? (debatable)

Hummm...maybe I'll wait for that to show up as I have 42days before I need to use my step up, at this point by not waiting for the 1080 and buying a 980ti classified cost me with tax+shipping 620$..i forgot about the 14 day registration window so there went another 30$ and now to buy the regular 3.0 acx being 619.99$ I owe evga another 62$....let's just say this upgrade cost me 710$ ATM and counting...damn I should of waited lol

Just step up to the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 ACX 3.0, part# 08G-P4-6181.  The FE is the ripoff version.  They are basically the same expect for the cooling. Wait for a couple of weeks and save your self $90.  nvidia released the PE version a couple of weeks earlier and want some extra money for it.

Yes, you got lucky since SC is no longer available on step-up. I chatted with support who confirmed that they took it out because of lack of availability. It was obviously the version to get  I really hope it comes back...

I managed to step up to a ACX 3.0 SC 6183-kr... Did I get lucky?

If you're not planning to OC it, then yes.  Otherwise no. To save $30, you could OC it 100Mhz yourself with the 08G-P4-6181.

So does anything think the 1080 Founder Edition SLI Step up worth it from a 980Ti SLI?

Yes. If you are stepping up its worth it. 980ti price has dropped badly and selling them on eBay now you're losing about 35% of what they cost you. Stepup and pay the little extra for more power and if you really wanted to you could sell off the 1080s you stepped up too on eBay. Grab the 3.0acx not founders edition though.
