I was kinda reading around on this and was wondering about it.

Seems like alot of people cure this by upping the CPU VTT voltage. Which most are running it way beyond the absolute max stated by intel to begin with and are bumping it higher and higher to fix the issue. Could it be the chip is degrading causing all of the problem.

http://download.intel.com/design/processor/datashts/322164.pdf  just skip to page 67 unless you like to read

I guess if you have run into this problem state your cpu vtt voltages that caused it and what you had to set it to for the fix.

Maybe state something like I was running it at cpu vtt x.xx for xx weaks then I had to bump it up to cpu vtt x.xx to regain my stability.

My chip in sig kinda will step over the line slightly @4.2ghz cpu vtt of 1.27 required. I have dropped my overclock down and am still playing around with my chip. I can run mine at some pretty low voltages so I think I can just avoid the whole issue myself. I've booted into Win7 with my chip @4.597ghz for the screenshot so I think I gotta pretty good chip.

My rig in sig is just a toy and it isn't on 24\7 so I'm not worried about killing my chip

Thanks for looking and please post your results and thoughts on the subject.

    I got the loop when i was only doing moderate overclocks just for 24/7 use.

    Not much help with that statement. What voltages did you have?

    I've looked at alot of threads and the cpu vtt seems to be being pushed pretty high by some members.

    I'm currently playing with a moderate overclock myself

    i5 750 @3.8ghz (181x21)
    vcore 1.2625v
    cpu vtt 1.075v
    cpu pll 1.800v
    pch 1.075v
    dram 1.63v G.Skill ripjaws DDR3-1600 needed this to bump to 1810mhz 9-9-9-31 1T

    So far it's rock solid at these speeds and voltages and have been testing it pretty thoroughly. But like I said it's just a moderate overclock to me. Hotest core is about 52*C on water fully loaded.

    For 3.6 for 24/7 use with voltages at...

    vcore=1.1625 in bios with vdroop disabled
    vtt= 1.175
    pch=either 1.05 or 1.1 forgot which
    pll=1.8

    Well this wasn't the only problem i encounter on the p55 sli board at the same time. Also had missing 2gb in bios for awhile too.

    vtt 1.35v
    dimm 1.65v

    could probably go lower -- but that's when i was having the error loop issues. at 1.35v i've never had an issue.

    worth looking into again for me though.

    the problem has nothing to do with going over the maximum vtt.  I had the issue happen on stock settings simply by switching the bios switch from 1 to 2 on the board and then back to 1 all while stock.

    anyway i reflashed and left the switch on 1.  Currently have my vtt at 1.325 and my ram at 1.60 and I have not had a problem for 2 months now.  rock solid.   I wish I would have went with Asus though as the bios update frequency is horrible.

    D4 error loop can be triggered in several ways. So far I'm able to trigger it in 3 different ways already. Each specific situation has a different possible solution. Upping the VTT is not one of them (for me).

    FYI component degradation is not possible, my board is brand new, 1 week old.
