Last night I reinstalled Rainbow Six Vegas to play some old school co-op with friends. Upon starting the first mission and about 3 minutes into it, I had the weird looking rainbow spectrum glitch go across the screen and then had the "Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode driver, Version 364.72 has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" pop up. I'm really hoping my GPU didn't die as it is a 760GTX that is barely over a year old. However now when I try running any game, it seems to crash in the same manner within less than a minute typically.

Running windows 10 with an AMD 4350FX with 16gb corsair ram. Temps all seem to be fine before and after the crash so I know that isn't the issue. I have ran this system with windows 10 fine with 0 crashes for about 2 months until last night. The weird part is that when the screen goes black from the driver crash, I can hear the fans on the GPU spin up to max RPMs even though the temps are well within safe areas as shown in the image below.

Edit: Not sure if I should try doing an RMA for the card or if it really is a driver issue as I see a LOT of people on the Nvidia forums reporting the same crashing and issues as I'm having.

    1N54N3,

Hello and welcome to the EVGA forums.  I am sorry to hear that you hare having issues with your current driver.  I would recommend doing a fresh install of the driver and choosing the Custom install option instead of the Express.  The Custom Install will have an additional check box near the bottom of the window which you can select in order to run a clean install.  This will remove any previous versions of the driver that may still be installed on the system.
Also I would suggest going into your BIOS settings and making sure your memory is configured correctly.  You will want to consult your motherboard manual and the recommended setting for the memory you are using.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, then please feel free to contact our 24/7 Technical Support team via email:  support@evga.com or via phone:  888.881.3842

I have the best results from driver 361.91 and use it in both my Windows 7 and Windows 10 PCs. Others have success using 362.00 but I encountered a lot of stuttering and crashes using it.

Have you tried re-seating the card and using a different set of pci-e power cables to power the card?

Yes, I did this last night, and the problem seemed to be fixed for a couple of course as I was able to play games, then this morning when I turned my PC on again, the problem started happening again.

I tried cleaning my system in safe mode with DDU then installed the 362 drivers. Upon restarting my PC, the first game I tested crashed within 20 seconds as it was before.

What is the make/model of your psu & how old is it? Is your 760 a factory overclocked version?

I have an Enermax Triathlor 550W. The 760 is factory overclocked, yes.

Since your card is factory overclocked try running the card in debug mode (#3) to see if it helps stop the driver crashing.

How old is the psu again?

Tried running it in Debug mode, and it took longer to crash (maybe 3-5 minutes) but then did the same sort of thing. The PSU is about 1.5 years old. All of these components were new when I built this somewhat budget/midrange pc.

This is good to hear Zuhl. I just reTIMed and cleaned my gtx780 last night and I decided to try one of the newer drivers. After some research I decided that 361.91 would probably be the most stable and it has been ok so far. Its still early in the install though. :)  @1n54n3- You probably did the express install from what im reading in this thread, which if that's the case try this: uninstall the GeForce Experience and the 3dvision software from your pc. You should be able to do it separately from windows application list, but if not use ccleaners "tools" tab to get there. After they are uninstalled cleanup the leftovers with ccleaner and use both the "cleaner"tab and the "registry" tab. It will ask you to save a copy of the registry before the cleaning it does, definitely save it just in case. After that's done reboot and see if its anymore stable for ya. I really hope it is!  \m/

If you need a copy of Ccleaner: The free version is fine.... https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Try driver 347.88. Make sure to do #2 listed here when installing any gpu drivers. Report back with your results. If driver 347.88 fails to correct the problem try underclocking your card as far as you can underclock it manually using msi afterburner. Instructions on how to underclock with msi afterburner can be found in the same thread under number #4.

I'll try the 347 driver and post my results. Wouldn't using Afterburner to under OR overclock my card somehow void the warranty though? I may not want to risk that option...

No, adjustments via afterburner are safe.

So underclocking it didn't change anything. I tried using the 364.55 driver after running DDU again. Doing this allows me to play any game without crashing until I power off or restart my PC at which point the crashing issue returns. Any idea why this would be the case?

Sounds like a driver issue to me. This issue may be related to windows 10. Have you tried windows 7?

I haven't tried Win7 since the issue, though I ran it for over a year with no issues with this GPU. I upgraded to Win10 and it still ran fine for a few months which is what baffles me. I'm not sure why a driver issue would have cropped up now after all this time.

Did a format of the HDD with a fresh install of Win7. Problem happened again within 30 seconds of running games. Screen turns black and fans rev up to max RPMs for no reason..

Time to test the card in another system or just rma the card.

At this point, doing an RMA would be much easier for me. Will EVGA charge me if it turns out there is nothing wrong with it?

One other thing you might try before rma'ing would be to reflash the vbios on the card. Contact evga and request for them to send you the latest vbios for your card to your e-mail. Evga should send you a .exe file that will reflash your card for you.
