Hi,

Is 82°C ok? everyone posts on here that the max they ever see is around 60°C but never states the power % and whether they use vsync and a higher res than 1080.

My card clocks down from about 1986mhz at 30°C when I start a game to around 1898mhz once the temp has stabilized.

I fear for the memory modules stuck between an 82°C core and the VRMs...

Most members here (including myself) that make the claim they typically don't see over 60C is because most are using a custom fan curve so the fan speeds run higher than the default fan speed.

To answer your question, 82C is ok and within spec, but for me personally, way to high...

from what i read from the reference cooler design (maxwell at least) when I had a GTX 980, the design was intended to maintain a temperature target of 80°C - it only really ramped up the fan speed when you were getting close to needing to clock throttle.

As i see it, the fan rpm needed to maintain a temp, especially on air, would get exponentially greater the closer to ambient you go, I'd like to believe the pcb is designed for long term thermal soak at those kinds of temperatures rather than have to put up with massive fan noise.
Just out of interest I'll see what max temps attained with fans set to a static 100%

That's correct and as I mentioned in my previous post, 82C is fine if you are ok running with that temp.  It won't hurt your GPU since it was designed that way.  I personally prefer cooler than that.  I keep my fans at 70% for 60C and it never exceeds that.  I don't hear the fans like that over all my other fans so it has never been a concern of mine.  But the choice is yours...

Also, with Pascal cards, they start downclocking in 13MHz increments at 50C.  Then again at ~55C, and again at ~60C and so on.  The default fan curve was setup with as low of a fan noise as possible.

There shouldn't be an issue with the temps at 80 to 85C. My card never usually runs hotter than 62C but that is with a very aggressive fan curve as was previously mentioned. That 62C is also with a 100 mhz OC on the core but it still rarely runs hotter.

ok, food for thought, I think about ~68% is the point I really felt the card noise was noticeable despite being under the desk.

Do either of you have games/applications that really push the power close to the standard limit? I think a large part is people using vsync, which lowers the load especially on lower resolutions and gives the impression the card runs very cool, despite it is in fact at low utilisation.

100mhz overclock, on top of factory? how do you feel about that, long term I mean in the wake of the VRM temps?

good god, I'm assuming with temps like that those 8 fans make a good attempt as sounding like a vulcan on takeoff at full chat?!

I've been playing DXMD and Batman AK primarily the past month or so.  I use Vsync on my Gsync monitor.  I set it at 144Hz but AK caps at 90fps.  Both games with max settings keeps my 1080 running at or near max (100%) most of the time.  Temp usually hovers between 58 - 60C.

The 10 fans in my case above and beyond the GPU fans keep the air flowing pretty good.  All helps maintain decent temps...
