About a week ago my computer started turning off at random occasions even watching Twitch streams. What happened at first My computer used to crash and then reset itself not sure why but more recent my computer totally crashes, monitor goes off, lights from the keyboard and mouse go off but my PC has total power still, Fans are working, the LED is working on the front of the case and i don't know what to do.

If anyone could explain these possible reasons it would be really appreciated!

Thanks.

If you could give us Windows error messages from the Windows Event Log from around the time the problem occurs, we may be able to help you. Otherwise, we basically know as much as you do about it.

It doesn't give me any errors or anything. It's just really strange. I've ordered a new heatsink for the CPU but it doesn't seem like it's over heating due to looking at the temps from the CPU and GPU. My computer is fairly new around about 2 years old. Brand new everything apart from CD drive because i never use it. These are my computers specs :

What errors are in the Windows Event Log? Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event/Error Log

It is impossible for it to have no errors there (unless you have screwed around with your windows services, swap space, and/or dumps). I don't mean a BSoD or error message on your screen. I mean look in the event log.

Thanks for that information, I've had 2 critical events in the past 24 hours which were kernal-power but the problem that i mentioned before has happened in the like the past hour  hours and the only event that came up was was a disc error and the information came up like this. The IO operation at logical block address 19aaf9c8 for Disk 0 was retried.

Have you done a 'sfc /scannow' and/or 'chkdsk' to search for disk errors?

Event ID 41 is a reset of the system because of loss of power. Event ID 153 is because of a problem with the hard disk controller. Either of which could be logged because of an unexpected failure of the system without a clean shutdown.

If your system is just failing to continue to run but the lights are still lit I would suspect a failing power supply. Please check that before anything further. The reason I suspect this is that I have seen power supplies still give some (or a little) power but not enough to keep the system running cleanly and fully. If you happen to have another power supply to change it with and see if that stabilizes the system it would be in your best interest. If not you'll want to check any of the system BIOS information about the power supply readings. Start with the +12v and ensure it's within a normal range and not fluctuating too much. It should be somewhere close to +12.0 and 12.5v on average and not below.

Chkdsk doesn't usually happen at boot for no reason. That makes your hard drive or SATA cable a suspect.
Is the CPU overclocked? Is the video card overclocked? Is the system memory overclocked? Is the system memory running at recommended speed, voltage, and latencies? Have you done a memtest of the memory to make sure it is working properly? Have you done a prime95 test of the CPU to make sure it is working properly? Have you done a Heaven Benchmark test of your video card to make sure it is working properly? Do you have another power supply you can test with?

Thanks for the reply! I don't have another power supply to test it but i will look through the voltage of all of power supply through the bios! I had a feeling it could of been this problem but i wasn't for sure.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have CPU, Video Card, System memory over clocked at all. The system memory seems to be running fine. I have not done a memtest but i have done a prime95 test and the CPU temp stopped at 70C and didn't move for around about 5 minutes. I haven't done a heaven benchmark test for the video card as well and i don't have another power supply.

The PSU voltage reported in Windows utilities is usually awfully inaccurate and the PSU voltage reported in BIOS is usually not much better. If you want an accurate PSU voltage reading, you need to probe around with a decent multimeter.

I suspect that either the PSU or motherboard is failing, but wanted to touch on the rest of the system first. The disk error could have easily been caused by the power interruption. Kernel-Power means that the computer was shutdown unexpectedly without using the correct shutdown procedure. It does not necessarily mean that the power supply js the problem. But the lack of very many other errors leads me to believe that there may be a problem with your power supply or a problem with your motherboard's power distribution circuitry. I am sort of leaning towards power supply though.

Thank you for everything! You've really helped me pin point some of the problems that it could be. I have tried changing the memory into different slots, using 1 memory stick then changing it into different slots, then using two memory sticks into different slots but no problems arose. I will take a look tho at the BIOS tho because that's the only way to look at it.

I looked at the 12v of my power supply and i noticed it was 11.5V and it was steady at 11.5V so i don't know if that is bad or not...

With that reading it is just barely within the +/- 5% of the overall +12v requirement. I would think that your power supply may be going bad. If you have the ability to check with a multi-meter you would know for certain but I would be fairly confident your power supply is behaving badly.

Just to add to James_L suggestion, it could also be the motherboard that is affecting the voltage reading you are seeing as it has to pass through it first.  If you could borrow a friend or family member's PSU first and test with it you can varify if your +12V changes.  If it stays at 11.5V it would likely be the motherboard that is affecting your voltages.

    A) try another PSU (better not from Thermaltake)
    B) try another CPU (even Celeron, just to start OS)
    C) test your mobo - it may be dying, like I mentioned in duplicate thread)

What are the crashes you are having? Is there an event ID number you are seeing? What is in the event viewer. You don't necessarily need a new system, just resolve the crashing that is being caused.
