I had nothing but problems with Comcast especially with their customer service. I have been very satisfied with my FIOS service. I wonder if this isn't an act of desperation to get some of their customers back.

"By Crissa Shoemaker DeBree Staff writer
Comcast said Tuesday it will triple the download speeds for many of its customers, at no additional cost.
The Philadelphia company said it would introduce a Performance Pro speed tier for new and existing Xfinity Triple Play customers, tripling the download speed from 25 megabits per second to 75. It also will raise the speed of its Blast! Internet tier by almost 50 percent to 150 megabits per second.

The new speeds and tiers will be available to most customers starting later this month, with the roll-out expected to be completed by the end of August. Customers subscribing to eligible Triple Play bundles will receive the new Performance Pro speeds, and all new and existing customers with Blast! speed tiers will have their speeds increased to the new level.
To get the new speeds, customers may need to re-start their modems. Comcast will also notify customers who may need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds."

Jut watch they will raise the cost within 6 months. That is what Cox does, they raise speeds and within 3-6months they raise the rates. What good is all this internet speed with data caps.

I'm moving next month. They all ready have 150Mbps lines in my area, they are getting ready to move to 300Mbps lines. I was thinking about going that route... Till I found out that Consolidated Communications does 1Gbps for upload and download. Can't wait!

I have 60\4 from Charter and TBH the only thing that will consistently saturate the connection by itself is Steam. Most other downloads I have that I can see the rate stall out around 5-6MB\s (40Mbps-48Mbps. Considering the fact that I only live with one other person I would MUCH rather see increases to the abysmal 4Mbps upload rate than my download rate. I guess download speeds are the "sexy" numbers that all the ISP's want to boost though.....

I have 25 up and 25 down from Verizon FIOS and the speed is only as fast as the server you are downloading from.

That is my argument on why I don't pay more for better speeds. I am still limited by the speed of whatever server I am downloading from. 25/25 FIOS is just fine for me.

Yep, same here too.  Cox increases your internet speed and then slowly raises your rate plan cost too.  Why can't internet be cheaper?  Like say $25 per month for 25/5 Mbps speeds.  Right now, I'm paying $67 for 50/5 Mbps and Cox's next step down plan is 15/2 Mbps, really no in between speed plan.

Around here you're choices are TWC or Cincinnati Bell. CB is trying to be like Google and push out a fiber network at reasonable cost, problem is that they're a smaller company and has a hard time supporting everything. On the bright side TWC has lost enough business to fight back with lower prices so i'm paying like $55 a month for 25Mbps instead of $85.

The only way any of these companies should be raising prices is if they improve their infrastructure (fiber everywhere) and increase speeds dramatically. It's 2015 and 50-100Mbps should be the norm >.<

Agreed. If I had to pay 10$ more a month, but I knew they were using my money to improve infrastructure, and spread fiber (even if for more profit) I would be OK with that. Problem is the bill still goes up 10$, and nothing changes -. -.

So my Blast! package will turn into about 15-20MB from 10-15 when someone is overloading the node in the middle of the evening. (pulls down nearly 100, over wi-fi, at other times)

We don't have a choice; it's Optimum Online (CableVision) or else Verizon DSL which is slow as molasses and no cable tv option.

Speed is good, but we pay plenty for it - just shy of $200/month for internet, phone, and cable TV combined (just standard cable tv package, no extra channels). If I try to remove one service, they increase the price of the remaining two.

On public holidays at peak times the service often takes a hit - just too many people and not big enough pipe. This is Brooklyn NYC, quite densely populated.

So much this!!! I can not believe that Charter still does not support any faster than 5Mbps (if you get their 100Mbit tier plan...) Seriously, you can get a 60/4 plan or a 100/5 plan and that is IT! Still no channel bonding on the upstream channel, it's sad. Not to mention a single upstream channel can handle more than 5Mbps anyway. I'd be content with, say 15Mbit up, but 4? Come on...

Im with Comcast and personally haven't had any issues with them, though I am aware of their spotty customer service.

I started my service with the 25mb plan which was then doubled to 50 which was then doubled to 100.  My bill has gone up 4.00 over the space of both jumps.  I can live with that.  If it doubles again, especially since it just jumped to 100+ last November, I wouldn't complain.

If I could get FIOS I would, but my only option here is Century Link and they are flaky when it comes to who can and can't get FIOS.  I live in a condominium complex and we can;t get FIOS, but the houses next to the complex any side of  can.

That sounds like it's your homeowners group blocking it. My apartment complex got a new maintenance crew and they decided that all of the sattelite dishes had to go after charging residents a $75 fee if they wanted one.

I hate Comcast with a passion. But, alas I am stuck with them for top speeds.

Recently. Scheduled 5 different appointments. The missed or simply didn't show up at all. This included 4 separate chat confirmations to make sure they had the right address and phone number. Finally on the 5th phone conversation after the rep straight up lied to me and said the techs showed up twice. Which I called him out on it. Somebody finally did show up. They ran through the gambit as usual testing and such. Which I have replaced all cable lines myself out of pocket. The ones that I could actually get to. The only line that was left was the drop line. Which I told them that it needs replacing. None the less the tech finally replaced it. His words out of his mouth before he left "It was the drop line all along".

This after years of crap service. This is the 2nd time the drop line has been redone. Not to mention they tried and successfully charged me for modem rental for a modem I bought! Which I called twice about being refunded for and subsequently have been refunded.

I wish I could get FIOS. Man do I wish I could. But, like I said I am stuck with Comcast for the time being until another company or another service can provide the speeds I need.

I was actually getting better prices from Comcast but their service was always going down especially the TV channels. I was lucky enough to have Verizon installing FIOS in the area and jumped on the chance to dump Comcast. My TV and interactive guide always work and I don't get the infamous internet slowdown during peak hours anymore. All hail FIOS, the savior of the free world!!!

In this case it's CenturyLink.  They're just slow about getting the complex hooked up.

Whats interesting, is back in the day when they were offering the 14mb DSL plan, it took forever for them to "hook up" the complex.  When they did, I dropped Comcast and went DSL.

I dropped DSL when Comcast offered 25mb for the same price I was paying for 14mb.

Just for the halibut, I checked my address for availability on CenturyLink's site.  We've got 40mb available here and for less money than I am paying here.  But I dont know if saving the cash would make up for a 60mb decrease in DL speed.   Since I don't upload a lot, or big files a massive upload speed doesnt really matter to me yet.   Although I can't find an upload on the CenturyLink site.  Unless it's 40/40.  Which would be impressive.
