I understand that the US isn't perfect.  But to say that our country, in general, oppresses black people and minorities is complete BULL.

I really appreciate the men/women who have given their lives to truly make this country, a country of privilege, liberty, justice, and most importantly the land of the free.

I really hope that they start selling his jerseys for $.99 a piece

You would have to be a bone head to do something like that. His stunt will end up costing him advertisement $$$$$.

QB's in the NFL have such influence over our youth and I think its a disgrace what he is doing - considering that he had white parents that raised him lol

I will start by saying violence against law enforcement is unacceptable.
But discrimination against black people and minorities is still a real issue and their voices need to be heard.
I commend Colin Kaepernick for his stand against racial injustice in America.
The fight for equality and equal opportunity is a noble cause.
And peaceful protest is the correct way to invoke change.

It doesn't matter what race you are, there are always people who will discriminate against you.  There are many white people who are discriminated by other races/nationalities - Christians are one of the most persecuted people in the world.  There will always be discrimination - but to label USA - probably the BEST country in the world as a whole as a place who discriminates against minorities/blacks is totally bogus.

How many billions of dollars are funded to these minorities that the USA is discriminating against?

We have a country that is founded on freedom - THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL - You can stand up against the small population of the world who does discriminate, but don't start talking trash to Lady Liberty - who is a fire burning for equality, justice, and personal freedom - for all men (and women)

+1. Disrespecting *all* Americans because of the actions of a few.. guess what makes you Collin Kaepernick? A bigot.

Why get so bent out of shape about someone saying words? Everone goes on and on about the land of the free, liberty, justice, etc., but when a strong confident black man says something that goes against the myth...watch out.

He had white parents? I guess he should shut his mouth and be a good boy then?

Being patriotic at the sake of everything else is the virtue of the vicious, not the free.

Well when you make millions playing a game and then tell us how oppressed he is...........
He has every right to say or do what he wants. Everyone else has a right to react to it the way they see fit too.
It is a land of equal opportunity, not equal outcome. No one is oppressed unless you oppress your self.
At least not in the USA. I see people of all types in good positions in many industries.
You reap what you sow. You get out what you put in. Garbage in, garbage out.

What he makes has no bearing on if there is oppression or not.

Oppression and growing inequality abound in the U.S.

How did he disappoint you?  This is par for the course for him.  Kap has always been immature and short-sighted.  The fact that he even thought about a political issue is hilarious, since he's politically illiterate like most celebrities and professional athletes.  This whole "Black Lives Matter" movement along with all of the other sheep that buy into the notion of "institutional racism" are about as uneducated as you can get, since they can't interpret statistics properly.  "Do you see the discrepancy?  If you don't, then you're part of the problem."  Typical Leftist anti-logic, where they make a baseless statement and then rule out any rebuttal by throwing the "hate" label on it.  Disgraceful.

People should open their mouths to inform others, not incite them. Athletes are under the misconception that because they're good at sports they're qualified to lecture others. Nothing so stupid as a person who assumes it's a good idea to use their fame to tell others their random opinion. Musicians and actors are stupid like that too. Athletes live in a fantasy world. They're not qualified to make such outlandish statements about injustice. It's hypocritical.

He has the right to say and do what he wants, in a responsible way of course. He is getting 11 million this year whether he plays or not or gets fired. It's guaranteed. I think his mistake was underestimating the public reaction and that is going to bring more attention to his team and teammates then they signed up for this year. Football is the one sport where you need to rely on your teammates for your own safety, and think of all the opponents he may have pissed off and would love a shot at him. He opened a big can of worms but he has the right to do and say what he wants.

I thought the Confederate flag was the symbol of the oppression of black people. Now it's the flag of the United States? Whose flag is next on the list? Why don't we just ban all flags and see if that won't shut them up once and for all.

    Well,
I do not know why we do anymore in Sports Games, as we in American Public Schools can no longer say the "Pledge Allegiance to the Flag".
    Think about it!

You do know Colin Kaepernick is engaged to be married to DJ Nessa Diab, right? For those that don't know who she is, she is a Black Lives Matter activist. Colin Kaepernick also converted to Islam last year.

I endured the fiasco in Arizona when the Black Athletes interfered in State Politics. I'm disappointed that Arizona caved in like that. Personally I would enjoy seeing an All White Superbowl or an All White World Series. These people demanded a vote and vowed to abide by the decision of the voters. Four times they failed to honor their word and demanded another vote and then another vote. A person  who does not keep their word is worthless anyway.

Peaceful protest is one thing but to go through life like that and say you are carrying yourself as a Black Man would is offensive even to me. Any sensible Black American would be outraged by this behavior. C'mon America, wake up, smell the coffee and call a spade a spade! (pun intended)

Colin Kaepernick signed a 6 year, $114,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including a $12,328,766 signing bonus, $61,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $19,000,000.

Put your money where your mouth is, you entitled brat.

Problem is that this guy and many like him have no sense of perspective. We have it damn good in the US compared to most places in the world, with opportunities for all - as this guy of all people should well know, but for the "me me me" entitled prats like Colin Kaepernick nothing is ever enough - hell, he's earning $19m a year for running around a field with a ball and then paying the ultimate disrespect to the country that allowed him to enjoy such a lifestyle and freedoms. Prat should have his contract nullified and kick his butt out to whatever country will take him.

Sure you have the freedom to protest and be an ungrateful prat, but that does not mean you are free from responsibility for your actions.

Zimbabwe dollars.  ZWD$19,000,000 = ~USD$50,000.. that sounds a bit more reasonable.

Part of the greatness of this country is that people are allowed to think whatever they want. We don't all have to agree on everything and yet we're all still Americans.

Rather than condemn Kaepernick over not observing the expected outward forms of patriotism, maybe we should just acknowledge that he has certain beliefs about our country, and that maybe there's a reason (besides he's just an unpatriotic bunghole) he holds those beliefs.

As a white guy I fully acknowledge I simply don't understand the experience of being black in this country. I can't really know what it's like. At best I can try to listen to what black people say, and then attempt to empathize with them and see if they have a point.

Oh, and lest anyone condemn me as not patriotic enough for condemning Kaepernick over this, I've served in the military for much of my adult life, starting before I'd even graduated from high school. Freedom isn't free, and patriotism isn't just about wearing a flag lapel pin, or saluting the flag.

He has a right to have his beliefs, just like I have mine. To me, and many other U.S. citizens, he is a P.O.S. for what he did, and what he "stands" (or lack thereof) for. The U.S. doesn't oppress blacks, certain people do. If he doesn't like the U.S., he can take his butt to some other country and see if he keeps making millions.

And I agree, I don't understand the experience of being black either. From what I have learned in a lot of cultural/diversity awareness classes (hooray military/local government training), it is not what it should be (i.e. equality). But with that said, there are plenty of times that I have felt like blacks dislike or treat me different me simply because I am white. This racial divide in our country is getting old.

He's empowered to say and do whatever he wants to, but accountability follows those actions, just like with everyone else in the US.

Did some reading today about the Star Spangled Banner, admittedly I was really unaware of it's origins or all of the verses.

I really have no issue with any person opting out of standing or honoring it in any way.

With the economic injustice in the country holding minorities, and well us 99% people down.
I think Collin should refuse to take the NFL paychecks and play for nothing so he is no linger in the 1%.
Him and all the other 1 percenters are the problem, he is keeping all of us down. Evil money grubbin 1 percenter.

The 1% are not the problem.
