This coil whine is very very loud on my new GTX 1080 Superclocked - is this normal?

Yes, some ACX cards have been reported to have high coil whine. Are your games running at high FPS?

Gigabyte X99 SLI, GTX 1080 Hybrid, Corsair Vengeance 3000Mhz RAM, Intel 6800k, Corsair 750D Airflow Edition, Dell S2716DG 144Hz G-sync, Deepcool Captain 360, EVGA 850GQ.

Allow your card a break-in period of a week or two.

Run ati tool overnight to burn the card in. Click show 3d view to start the ati tool render test.

Many forum members have reported that once they run a good load on the card for a few hours the coil whine goes away or decreases.

Does burning in actually work? I'd like to hear the OPs results. I also have coil whine on my GTX 1080 SC. I've returned one and got a new one and I still have the issue. I ran Heaven Valley for 8 hours and it didn't seem to do anything. I did find the following out:

    - Coil whine happens at 99% load (using MSI Afterburner) regardless of frame rate
    - When I turn my monitor off the coil whine stops

    Things I may try:

    - Use the EVGA overclocking tool rather than the MSI tool
    - Switch power supplies (right now I have an EVGA P2 650W and I'm going to go buy an EVGA P2 850W to see if that makes a difference)
    - Switch the power supply from ECO to normal mode

"burning in" did not work on my EVGA 780 ACX which sounded like in the OP video, even after one year of heavy use the coil was producing the same noise, i personally believe that burning in is a myth.

What is the science behind burning in anyways? the source of coil noises is that coils vibrate as they resist current, some coils vibrate more than others in certain conditions and so are noisier, i believe that every single high performance graphics board has this noise to some degree, by that i mean, if your put your ear very close to any PCB running a graphics chip you will hear that buzzing.

I never had a GPU that did not make this noise, even my PS4 is producing this noise and can be heard if you put your ear close to it while a game is running, other GPUs like in the OP video have this noise loud enough that it can be heard from a distance.

Did anyone actually had any GPU that did not produce this vibration noise when you put your ear very close to it? and did burn in actually work for anybody? and if so, why and how it works?
