we can do this all day long if you like...i don't mind.., but it's not getting any one any brownie points.
you expressed your opinion as i expressed mine. nothing wrong there...
and i can compare you to some one far worse than him...but its beneath me to do so..

but you have a nice day though..

All I know is that templates don't really help much since every chip and config has its own quirks.

Even if someone posts a template that works perfectly for their setup it probably won't work perfectly for yours. Theres gonna be plenty of trial and error and tweaking values anyway.

tis is true. but works well enough for an 80 percent start, but....yes...there is a but...
the problem.....
different:
bios
motherboards
ram
windows versions
software loaded

you can run 4.0 ghz with only vcore and vtt voltage and that's it. (maybe as low as 1.55 vdimm, but with 12gb or more..1.65 and higher)

Well with that processor I do not have a score w/o physics and now I do not have my 295's(rmaed and got co-ops as replacements.) I bricked one with a hard voltage mod and the other works great but not going to put a water-block on it with fermi around the corner. Tell ya what I will do a run with one 295 air cooled and no physics and post. Edit: 25486 774linked mem1215 http://service.futuremark...bsp;    not that great

expedision I am only 167 Mhz (on air) off your junk . Be nice now :)
i did 4.6 on air, so you better go rethink it.
and that's the hardest 167 points for you to over come. else you would have done it already

yeah, you have a ways...but it's nice to stay positive.
Ya, I love your 'on air', with 17-26c idle temps. But that does provide us 'on air' folks, or for folks like me who are deathly afraid of water (talk to SimC33 about H2O), another poke at higher clock rates. I'll put on my mittens and boots and a good coat, then crank down the AC.  brrr!....cold, as Overclocker333 might say.

Arghh!  You wrote, "I did 4.6 on air," and then you show a screen shot, which is only 4.5. The usual purpose of a screen shot is to verify a statement. Oh no. Then 93c might not be possible on chilled air.   but, but, but...oh the hell with it.
"did ON AIR and it was boring," as in too easy? I take it. Now that's encouraging.

1: your like the only person not knowing im on water. a simple look at modrigs would have explained and showed that.:)
2: i did 4.6 on air, so you better go rethink it. <--past tense. meaning just that..I DID..not IM DOING
3: screen shots are to show what you can do on water vs air. sorry air will lose every single time just like water will lose to ln2/phase change/ le.. its a pole..the higher you climb...the farther you go..it's just reality. i was an "ON AIR" guy, but you can only do so much and i wanted far more than that....nothing with it. just out grew it (so to speak).
but thanks again for trying to correct something that didn't need correcting in the first place..:)

but let me ask you..
HT TURNED OFF

**HT Off**

what did you get when you turned ht on while ON AIR?

johnksss stability templates above 4.5 ghz is what you probably wont see. since those are the ones that really matter...
I agree, but what does "really matter" mean? We must, therefore, have a need to create a 4.5GHz stabilty forum if 'they' are different than 'us'. They don't really have a secret. Poor a bunch of money and, respectfully, effort into a water system of one type or another and you too can get to 4.5. I have my system running at 4.5 right now. I just could never hope to keep it stable (well, maybe there's more to it than that).

woah...woah...grd003...don't go there...just because some one or two try to be naive...i tried like a month to get stable at 4 and then another couple of weeks to get stable at 4.1

4.5 would kill my enthusiasm and am sure many others as well...coz its 25% what you do with the settings and 40% which batch you get and another 35% how lucky you are/were while mounting the heatsink and applying the TIM as well as how GOOD is your day...its like behavioral science (well in a bit absolute way), dude!!!

if you could consider these then it would nice, SIR!! :)

johnksss stability templates above 4.5 ghz is what you probably wont see. since those are the ones that really matter...

Relax, dude. All it says is the 4.5GHz, and above, crowd are in a league of their own. And if they have such disdain for us noobs who are less than that, then perhaps there should be a separate thread for them.

Other than that, I wholly disagree with most of what you wrote. I have had good overclocking results with the Q6600, Q8200, Q8400, and now the 920 -- all of them good performers with a minimalist, simple approach. I think all the hand wringing about the considerable differences between systems is a bunch of crap mostly directed at impatient and inexperienced new users. Given your premise, then I have been the most lucky person in the whole wide world since my overclocking experiences have been sorta nominal all the way around, and that would simply confound probability.

johnksss but let me ask you..
HT TURNED OFF

grd003
CPU: i7 920  D0, Batch #: 3920B649
CPU Clock: 4,401.7MHz on air
**HT Off**
Voltage: 1.329V
Idle Temps: 42,38,42,37
Load Temps: 80,79,76,73

what did you get when you turned ht on while ON AIR?

I  get better system performance with HT Off.

In the context of overclocking, when I turned HT On my temps shot threw the roof, but then High Temps was one of the reasons for turning HT Off -- or so I thought. Then I had to get a new heatsink, and then later, new fans, which didn't by themselves provide stability, even though I had spent $260 for air, total. It then took two weeks to get back to a verified (see above) 4,378 MHz. And that ain't 4.4!

When I finally stop all this silly overclocking nonsense, I will then run with HT Off unless I get video rendering software that can use it. Presently, I get considerably better performance with HT Off.

now when people post like this...this makes people really want to help! 4.5 ghz or not (and your right..but it's in stages..4.5/4.6/4.7/and up to like 5.3..each stage looking down on the lessor....and as you see..most of us have a long way to go!!!)

yeah, that's how i got that 4.6 ghz overclock on air(no shame in my game). lol...(i didn't like how i had to turn everything down when i paid to over clock it up. chalk it up to my noobie-ness. and when it comes to noobie-ness...that would be me when over clocking the i7 for stability..i only just really started this at the beginning of this week. i was just benching vantage and 3dmark06 only..so i can fit in there somewhere.

I am sure some one else has thought this, and maybe others would not like it, and probably would be a PITA for SimC33. But perhaps have an air list and a water list? Just a thought.

all this stuff should be broken up more indepth..(personal opinion)
examples:
how is 1 card going to compare to 4
dual core vs quad
water vs air vs dice vs ln2

sounds good to me...split'em up.

Sounds nice...Have at least an air list & H20 list... I would be more than happy to help out SimC33 ( but I still haven't gotten paid for the last 2 times  you know I'm busting sim). Where are you SimC33 (again busting)...I hope it worked...

+1 absolutely split them up.  Who cares about water anyway? Us air folks will get all the attention and thread hits and those "others" can go off and wish they had the throngs of millions watching on the edge of their seats for the next great On Air celebrity.
