NighthawkF22 Core i7 (950) Batch #: 3910A594 CPU clocked at: 4750MHZ (HT OFF) Voltage: 1.4875 (w/droop) Idle temps: 48 44 48 44 (ambient temp in room is bad) Load temps: 68 66 66 63 Bios template for this OC can be found at this thread for those interested: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=179016 Pics of my rig can be found here: http://s741.photobucket.com/albums/xx59/NighthawkF22/Watercooled%20Build/ Hopefully the Everest shot will be sufficient. For some reason CPU-Z still has a problem reading the multiplier for the 950, I have Speedstep and CxE both disabled (and have tried everything else I could think of), but it always shows a 12x multi, even under load. I posted under the E-Leet forum and no one had any ideas unfortunately. Everest reports my speed properly. Here's the main issues I ran into and what I did to fix them, hopefully this will help someone else that runs into them and if I remember more I'll add them later: - Regarding Vcore - It seems that, in some cases, far less Vcore is needed to pass Linx than Prime95. When I was @4500MHZ, I was able to pass Linx using the above template with a Vcore @ 1.3. Prime ran for about 8 hours at the same Vcore, about 10 minutes around the 1.35 range, before being 24 hours stable @ 1.4. For 4750MHZ I had posting issues for any vcore below 1.4875 so I couldn't replicate the same problem at this speed. Also, one of the biggest things that had me banging my head was that I was 24 hrs prime and 50 passes linx stable @ 4800MHZ at the same 1.4875 Vcore, but once every 10-20 reboots I would hang at POST with just a piece of the "blue ribbon" graphic showing. Once I bumped up the Vcore to 1.5 this went away, and since 1.4875 was the max I wanted to run at I dialed the OC down a tad instead. I tried tinkering with all the other voltages, especially IOH, but this seemed to be tied to only the Vcore.
- Don't loosen RAM too much - I dropped my RAM timings to 11-11-11-31 (stock is 7-8-7-20) which was too far and probably responsible for a majority of my Prime95 headaches (Linx never had issues). Loosening them to 8-9-8-24 gave no problems.
- Only give as much voltage to Vdimm as necessary. Another big part of my Prime95 headaches. When I initially started I new my temps were cool so I took the approach of determining what were the max voltages I'd be OK with running at and then finding the maximum stable speed for that voltage. For Vdimm, big mistake. I started @ 1.65v (with loosened timings) and had no problems with Linx, but Prime would always fail after a few hours. Once I lowered it to 1.5v things were fine.
- QPI Signal Compensation and CPU Impedence had the biggest impact on my stability. In fact, I had slightly raised most of the other voltages in trying to get the system stable, and it wasn't until I reduced them back to their defaults (while leaving QPI SC at "middle" and Impedence at "less") that it became so. After the voltages were back at their defaults and things were stable, changing either of these settings seemed to impact things.
This has been a much longer process than I anticipated due to problems with poorly designed GTX285 V2 EK Waterblocks which fried one of my cards, as well as the fact this thing was a bit harder to OC than I anticipated, but after many months I am finally done

Well after a full week of messing around with my new computer, I finally passed a base clock of 200. At first, I thought I would never get it above 198, but the forums here at EVGA helped out tremendously(thanks specifically to XXChronicXX[and Sean over at the Mushkin forums]). I'll update my mod rigs this week with my new toy. My previous I7 machine has now become my new folding rig. max silver Thanks, for what I assume to be a male dominated forum (please don't shoot me if I'm wrong), there seems to be a distinct lack of women in the desktop backgrounds. If I was back in the 80's and early 90's when I was single and living in my apartment I would have a naked women background, but I don't think I had a computer that was background capable until '95. But now with wife and two kids I opt for a simple black background. Man, the free time I had when I was computer and 300 TV channel free....
