Ok. The only way I was able to OC my i7 950 was to downclock the RAM to 1066. I know it's a problem between the i7 and the Corsair RAM, as confirmed on the Corsair website forums. (Others are having problems running the RAM at spec) I've tested the RAM with Memtest86+ and it's fine. There's just a problem with the link between the i7 platform and the RAM sticks, which is painfully obvious. I've tried all voltage and frequency tweaking, but cannot avoid BSOD's if the memory is clocked above 1333mhz.\
The only way I can see to fix this is to switch out the RAM with EVGA approved/tested RAM. No biggie considering that I've solved the BSOD's by downclocking the RAM.

what voltage are you testing your ram at...it may need more volts than corsair let on to believe.....

Well, I'm not very happy with these results, as I expected a LOT more out of this cpu, but at least I finally got it stable. It took a few days to get to this point, so I'm very relieved to say the least, to have some kind of decent clock at least. So far, I'm liking my 975 a LOT more than this 920, that's for sure. The 975 was a lot easier to overclock, ran cooler, and didn't use anywhere near as much voltage. Now that I have this 920 stable with a 220 BCLK, I'm going to see how it impacts my 295's in Vantage. If I don't see an improvement in gpu score, this 920 is going up for sale and I'm putting the 975 back in. ok...not sure if this was talked about already...but im going to ask anyways...
talking about the batch numbers and which cpus are the better ones out of the bunch....
example:
Batch #:3849A846
3 = factory
8 = year
4 = month
9 = day
A = more voltage / while B is = to less voltage
846 = seems to mean something like bin and tray (speculation of course)
does this hold any water?
after going over page one of this thread and looking at the A/B code...it would seem that this is the real deciding factor as to which chips use less voltage and can probably over clock pretty high.....does this seem to be accurate?
all ideas and speculations welcome.

I have a 3910A and similar batch chips , that I have seen , haven't fared very well. Mine did very well for me reaching 4.0Ghz with only 1.24v and max temps at about 69* - with the side of my case off. Maybe I just got lucky.

johnksss, I'm sure your assumption holds some water, but there's always going to be that *anomaly* chip that comes out of every batch, whether it be an extremely good or bad one. In general, all of the 3845B chips have done very well, but the one I got is a voltage HOG, and doesn't overclock well at all. It's going to end up a 4.3GHz max chip, which isn't anything to scream about anymore. I think it has to do with more luck of the draw vs. an entire batch. Case and Point: Look at trs32505's entry vs. sgtharry's entry (sorry guys, didn't mean to single you out, I just randomly grabbed two) Historically, the "B" chips have utilized less voltage. If you look at trs32505's results, he has an "A" batch and only needed 1.3V to get to 4.4GHz. Sgtharry, on the other hand, is using a "B" batch and needed 1.54V to get the same 4.4GHz (give or take a few points). So, here's an "A" batch needing MUCH less voltage than an "B" batch. Again, I don't think it has anything to do with the "Batch", but just luck of the draw.

Oh, I fully agree with you. The B batches do seem to be better overall, but all I was saying was that just like I ended up with a poor B batch, one could end up with a great A batch as well. I guess, if I had to choose one over the other, I'd rather take my chances with a B batch. You seem to have better odds that way, lol.

Can you make a way for people with 3 gigs of ram to join? My Core i7 is running at 4.2 GHz perfectly stable, but I only have enough RAM to run LinX at a problem size of 13822.
