As far as running Linx as a stability test, well before this thread I always used 4 to 6 hours of prime just to satisify myself that I was stable. But I liked the idea of belonging to the I7 stability club, so here I am.

DrNipThe inconsistencies I had weren't of it pausing or anything like that but different gflops and times.  Now mind you I would start a run and let it run a few times and then stop it.  Then restart it with a totally different gflop and run time.  Nothing changed, nothing running, just start, stop and then start, stop again.  Then I would start it again for it to be running the same as it was two runs before.  I'm talking a difference of 9 gflops and pretty big time difference.
It has been documented here in the thread that you can not restart LinX without some serious probability of an inconsistent result. That is both simply stopping and starting, and restarting after an error, which, generally speaking, is a way to "cheat" the system.
I think this has something to do with Windows memory management.  I noticed that when I run MemtestHCI and I use all of the DRAM (98%-99% usage) after stopping the test the system is terribly slow and I always have to reboot it when I want to do any work, despite the fact that all of the used DRAM was successfully released after the run was finished.  I think this is the same thing that happens to LinX when using a lot of DRAM.  I noticed this in all flavors of Vista and Windows 7.
Duh...it becomes so obvious _after_ someone else has pointed it out. That reminds me why we used to aways write our own memory management routines; sort of reuse one that you know worked well before, and that should be especially incumbent on someone writing/producing a utility that is supposed to measure performance. We know LinX has problems. Maybe if we continue to document its inconsistencies, then whoever holds the keys to linpack might get the message. [Can you imagine, linpack started life in Fortran. If it is indeed now in some form of Java, then I can understand why it would have problems.]

Ok so I have an OC of 4.4 running right now and its the most stable LinX run yet! BUT my gflops are at 44.9897 and the time is 231.562...why is this WORSE than my 4.2 OC?

Im tempted to sell this chip and have someone hand pick one for me lol

The problem is not your chip. It's LinX. If you were to run with same setting except with HT disabled then you would see a big difference in time and gflops. LinX like all LinPack programs do not use HT 8threads properly. If it detects error then it will throttle and slow down or just stop and give an error. If you restart after it's stopped on error then any subsequent run after that will exhibit that same behavior. LinX plain and simply sux for a real CPU/Memory stress tester.

Thank you for the info! I raised the vcore and its gone alot better...and I wasnt blaming the chip...but seeing the 4.5 and 4.7 showing in the thread is making me jealous...lol

bclk is at 210  with a vcore of 1.42500 right now...im on run #10...farthest its EVER gotten...I just dont think this chip has it in it to go past this lol...This 4.4Ghz will probably be the furthest its gonna get

If and when I get this stable...is there anyway to go further or lower the heat im producing? lol

I hope you don't plan on running at those load temps long. That is a bit severe.

That's the point. All the Xeons are is just i7s binned for the server/workstation market is all. The 3500 series are nothing but renamed i7s. I cry CPU Prejudice!
