I still think LinX is buggy and really shouldn't be used for full stabilty testing. It's also known that LinPack programs have a problem using HT. When 4 threads are used the LinPack can use threads 0,1,2,3 but when HT is Enabled Linpack has a problem using 4,5,6,7 threads and can cause slowing of data. This inturn can cause inaccurate timings.

SimC33 mudvari hey sim good to see you back...!! hope you reach 5GHz OC...and for that may the lords and devils come together and shower you with their choicest blessings!! as for me I was able to reach 4.3GHz but without HT...I had a problem with my RAM so had to RA it...and had to revert back my OC to 4.2GHz with HT on...:) !!! lol Thanks for the blessing of the lords and devils but I'm not going for 5ghz lol...theres no way in hell my chip is gonna allow that. I just want to stop at 4.4-4.5... What RAM are you going to be using? I was thinking about changing mine out... SimC I am using the Kingston ValueRam KCR1333D3N9K3/6G, which is by far the most reliable RAM kit I have had since I built this rig. I went for this Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D since then I have had issues. Infact I opend another thread here the title is 6GB Installed but 3.99GB usable after a long cold reboot. I heard that if you have high end RAMs you will face less difficulties OCing your cpu but hell I can overclock upto 4.2GHz with my Kingston RAM NOW!!! I think I will be selling the corsair kits in ebay once i get the RA fixed. the only downside with the Value Kits are that the max vDIMM you can set is 1.5v which adversely affects if you have to OC your VTT....coz it'll be difficult to maintain the 0.5v [or something like that] difference!! anyways, i can OC my CPU upto 4GHz with default volts i.e., just changing the bclk. and to hit 4.2 i need 1.34xxV with VTT 125mV and everything auto. anyways, good luck SIM with your OC will keep posting and checking. and btw, you definitely have brought some life back to this thread, yet again!!!

You have a couple or three misconceptions. 1.) The 1.5V specification on your RAM is a very good thing. It means that your memory will operate at rated speed with the low, low voltage of 1.5. That is not a maximum, it is a minimum. You can run those all day and for the rest of your life at 1.65V and not violate the chips' maximum tolerance, in fact they might love you for it, except of course they don't have heat spreaders. You could run those chips at an even higher voltage except Intel says 1.65 -- not the chips. 2.) The 0.5V spec for the delta between vDimm and Vtt is a minimum, not a maximum, i.e., the difference between the two should not exceed 0.5V. That does not say that the difference can not be 0.0V. 0.1, 0.2, 0.3…anything like that is fine and wonderful and okay. The Valueram is problematic. I understand they are inexpensive and that is a very good thing, but they are quite slow at 1300MHz CAS 9 spec, and they have no heat spreaders; although, I am not convinced at all that contemporary memory chips need the kind of overkill we are applying to them for heat dissipation at this time. It seems that those Kingstons sort of eviscerate the high performance goals of overclocking. I would turn the volts up to 1.65 and test them at 1600MHz--or something…actually, I'd go back the Corsairs. Ya, I have trouble getting all my memory (the Mushkins) recognized all the time (might be the cold boot issue). There is something wrong somewhere with my slot 1. But I certainly don't blame that on the memory I use (tested them exhaustively). Compatible memory. That only means something has been tested by the motherboard manufacturer to give noobs the idea that they can run them with confidence. It doesn't mean other memory isn't compatible. [I use a mixture of 6GB Mushkin Redlines and 6GB Geil vanilla (1.6V; what a steal they were the other day on sale at Newegg, not now), 1660MHz, 1.65V, 7-7-7-24-74; 4.3GHz CPU 24/7.] Holy mackerel. 500,000,000 million people use the Corsair Dominators on X58 motherboards and they don't have problems. Simply because 2,500 people have trouble doesn't mean the memory is not compatible. The few who have problems are statistically insignificant, which only means that from a logical inference perspective, one can conclude that the Dominators are simply peachy keen.

OK, I scraped the Hyper Transport as I was getting too many inconsistencies as well as it was just too squirmy with LinX. I am also starting to think Hyper Transport is a gimmick and you won't see much real world difference with it enabled. Without it my temps were waaaay cooler, less volts required as well as I was consistent time after time. Here is my latest run. Core i7 920 BATCH# 3845B027 CPU clocked at: 4420.0 MHz Voltage: 1.270 idle/1.282 load Idle temp: 37,38,36,35 Load temp: 71,71,67,64 <- Priceless Air Hyper Transport Off

Did ya notice how my 4.420 ghz non Hyper Transport run smoked both of your guys 4.7 something ghz Hyper Transport runs? It has to be the Hyper Transport doing this. I'm going to do some extensive testing the next few days with and without Hyper Transport to see the difference between the two. This testing will not include LinX as that has already been proven to be inconsistent and bogus.

overclocker333 DrNip I am also starting to think Hyper Transport is a gimmick and you won't see much real world difference with it enabled. +1 +1 ...although, for the purposes of stability testing, it serves a couple purposes. First, it does help by generating a lot of additional heat which is one difficult hurdle for a stable system to contend with. And, I believe at light speed it does scramble many significant 'states' of the processor that it has to process thereby placing additional performance requirements on the processor, and that is another extreme test for stability. HT is not a processing requirement for many of us at all. But it is a tool for testing stability.
