China is looking to break through in 2017 by harnessing high-performance processors and other key technologies to build the world’s first prototype exascale supercomputer, the Tianhe-3. Ultimately this next-generation computer is expected to be 10 times faster than the current world champion. The prototype is expected to be completed in early 2018.    Link

Exascale refers to a computer’s capability of making a quintillion (1 followed by 18 zeros) calculations per second.

Wow, that's pretty fast. Would love to play BF4 on that. LOL.     =)

Hmm, coming out to cement China as the leader in supercomputers the same year that Summit is completing to dramatically increase the compute of the USAs largest supercomputers output. I wonder how these 2 will stack up.

I would like to see how well it crunches WCG and Primegrid.

I can't wait to see the next cray supercomputer with 32 core Naples zen based processors. That combined with volta for GPU based acceleration should be a downright impressive jump in performance.

X399 Designare EX, Threadripper 1950x, Overkill Water 560mm dual pass radiator. Heatkiller IV Block Dual 960 EVO 500gb Raid 0 bootable, Quad Channel 64gb DDR4 @ 2933/15-16-16-31, RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra, Corsair RM850x, Tower 900

The ones I know coming with Volta have Power9 to use Nvlink. Can't wait to see China compete with that.
