WOW you remember the thread of your first post? good memory.

my first post was in the 790i section with memory bios issues, but for folding I haven't a clue what my first post was about.

This wasn´t my first post, but my second or third. The first was in a thread about waterblocks for the GTX 285.
Though my signup date says Jan 2008, my first post wasnt until Jan 2009. Until then I just kept lurking around.
And look at the spam monster I´ve become since

wb,
no i used to freeze up also but that was a older client version for gpu's infact alot of us had nans and eue issues with the old gpu client, i am sure that is what he is refering to.

but yeah heimie you don't want to use the not freds vmware any more cpu folding is actually better then gpu now depending on the cpu you have. smp2 core A3 and big adv rule the day now

The EUEs/ NANs are exactly what I meant. It just got so frustrating and time consuming to restart 75% of my clients twice a day that along with the crazy hours we've been working for the last 6-8 months, I didn't have the time or the energy to mess with it. Hopefully It'll be smooth sailing and I can continue to fold after the CC is done.

And, thank you for the info on the CPU Client. I have a Q8200 and an I7 920 I may look into getting going as well. I'll have to try it out and check the temps. The I7 build just has a mid level Coolermaster Heatsink on it as does the Q8200. BTW, any advantage to Windows 7 64 bit over Vista 64bit? And will I still need dummies on all GPU clients? I need to hit Radio Shack to get the dummies put together if so.

Thanks for the help Guys/Gals.

Re:Chimp Challenge Sign Up 2010/04/24 05:39:43 (permalink)
Dummy plugs yes/no still seems to be luck of the draw. Some don´t need them any more, I still need them on mine.
I don´t see much of a difference between Vista or Win 7, but as it is ymmv.
My preferred drivers for folding are 190.38/62 and 195.62. Nowadays you can mix cards (different shaders and G80,G92 and G200) without getting a penalty.
The win smp( version 6.29) can now use all cores to the max, so no need any more for running multiple instances.
If you´re going with the new A3 cores (available through -advmethods) or the über big wu (-bigadv, needs 8 cores) you need a passkey. These are time dependendant, so the faster you can return the wu , the more points you get.
for more info on these bonusses see here
http://foldingforum.org/v...c.php?f=58&t=13160
and the bigadv
http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=10697

edit: so with only the q8200 and the 920 at stock clocks, just running the win smp with -advmethods and no gpu folding, you should look at around 15k ppd

Re:Chimp Challenge Sign Up 2010/04/24 07:16:31 (permalink)
Thanks for the Info Guys. Does SMP still hurt GPU Client PPD? Or, is it now that the CPU client PPD offsets the difference? I may try to get the SMP going this weekend on the I7 rig and the Q8200 rig just to get a feel for it again. I'm still getting the Microwave Cart rig back together. Both of the MBs in that rig will be P6N Diamonds with 4xGTS250s each on a E5200 (I think) dual Core and 4G ram on either Vista 64 or W7 64. Any thought/suggestions appreciated as it's been a long time since I folded and it seems a lot has changed. May let the HTPC (E6850 Stock and a 8800GT Vista 64 4g ram) fold some as well. I have way to many rigs for a small 1br apt. LOL

I might be able to get Big advance on the Hex Core from AMD Ill have coming which if I order today should arrive the 28th. Also can we get a ppd production estimate? Also I will see what kind of OC i might be able to get out of this 275 for even more points.

no the smp2 cpu client does not take away form the gpu's on a i7 i get about 10-14k ppd from the smp2 wu's and still get 9-10k ppd each from my 3 275's on the same rig basically 40k ppd from my one i7 rig.

if you need help on the smp2 guide let me know it works with all cpu's, i'll pm you some info on it.

i took a break form folding also and after 1 week it's like riding a bike, back at it again.
