I'd bring all to bear folding in the CC (even if it means Flu stuff) if the Jade monkey goes to the highest point-getting Team.
.
Have the other "honorable mentions".... maybe smaller versions of GIF images or different colors. Other than this.... I'm sitting the whole thing out.

Love the thinking going on. Just need to toss out there...

The point is to grow and create awareness correct?

Well the larger the team, the harder it is to get current folders to change (70% of our users do not log in but once a month if that) so we usually end up with a low % of current folders in the CC vs. smaller teams.

Not to mention just look at last years CC. It is quite clear a few smaller teams simply got other folders from other teams to fold for them as their numbers did not maintain the huge growth they had during the CC (Compared to larger team BTW). And yes new folders as well. But why the big drops afterwords? Hmmmmmm

So I for one think all the Handicaps should go away and would get behind a plan that awards multiple angles of attack. Giving all teams a few angle to reach for. And from the list you have above it is clear we would have a hard time with most of them without any handicap... That is a good thing BTW, not a complaint.

Just my $.02 here. But any handicap is a bad handicap when speaking on Folding. Drag racing is one thing. Why? Because they do Pre-qualifiers before each race... They do not "Guess" before hand and and cripple one or two racers from the start. Those racers will protest or leave. And that removes a lot of fanfare and exposure for all.

So exactly what do they hope for?

Well, that would leave me an asset as I don't put much more than my EVGA bucks into this team lately. Does that mean that would make last years rules more in our favor? Maybe, but would that be fair all around?

No offense intended, but I though I could add something to think about:
In bracket racing, cars of different performance levels provide a dial in time that they cannot run quicker than.  It is a handicap that levels the playing field by starting the faster car later and measuring how close you can get to an estimated time without beating it (running faster than dial-in = DQ'ed).

Wow team #7(custom PC & bit tech)
showed up in the CC thread finally (as others are pushing for a vote)
They don't like any suggestions...and may ask for time to come up with something

just keep proposing stuff guys...
whatever comes of it...we may use some in upcoming contest ourselves

EVGA has already said that any stats must come from your best two weeks(whether that be during HPCS or not)
to exclude those months would allow those teams that have exploited it to wind up having an unfair advantage over others
so if your best two weeks was during the CC we take it... if it was more recent we take those
best estimation on performance is taking the peek output(usually during a contest)...PERIOD

Your team can't demand we take our stats during the HPCS period; as I've already pointed out, it will end up harming the teams who used HPCS the most.
HPCS clearly came into effect in the last stage of January; if we're picking the best 2 week period, it'll have to be before that date.

And you wonder why I think it's a lost cause.
how can OCN not include their best two months (jan feb)
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=37726
but will soon be march
(not all the increased PPD comes from HPCS - it comes from 4p rigs)

and yet have EVGA include ours from our contests (TZC)

I sure hope I am not correct with my perception...

It seems to me that I am reading some hostility in folks not on team EVGA when they are choosing to post here. Are we posting on their forums in this manner? Heck, are we posting on their forums at all? Maybe this might be of help if not.

And because I do not want to start a fight. I will just say that this is why I like being a member here. We find reasons to go for it. Even if others want to think they can tell us what to do.

I am getting pretty nervous that this event is going in the wrong direction. I hope that my perception is flat wrong and all the teams will be excited once again to have a fun in a competitive environment to grow this cause to new heights...

AB
 your perception is good
however that impression comes from OCN - whom I think is on a mission to make sure they win using their rules(formula/ handicap - which excludes their best months)

just finish posting on HWC
from HWC  CC CAPT Chrisk

The main thing I can bring from our team is that we just want a Chimp Challenge. We will take part no matter what the system is.

Straight-up PPD, total points, total amount of users with the vowel 'e' etc. we are in.

If we can make people happy with a mix of last year's PPD with the best 2 weeks (including HPCS) then we will accept it. Might be a good compromise. Nobody is going to get everything they want out of this I think, so there must be give and take.

I posted OCAU's suggestion earlier
the problem I believe is MPC and OCN

The issue is we have a CC forum - that the captains barely log into or post on
Im getting more response/feedback when I post on their forums (albeit the few Im on)

Im also on my best behavior on them. Im trying to build bridges so we can have more contest with them later

I don't have accounts everywhere and do not know everyone...so this is a challenge to me

Re:Chimp Challenge 2012 2012/03/15 14:59:08 (permalink)
^^ Thanks for that.

Just want to say. If any team is worried about having the contest designed in such a manner that they win, it is totally the wrong end of the horse to be looking at.

We need to be designing this contest to be about gaining more awareness, bringing past folders into the fold, and gaining new levels of attainable production.

In other words, a Competitive environment. I hope I am not alone with that thinking.

Every year after day four we can see who will win. That has a negative affect.

And frankly. If folks are being open minded I see no reason why we should still be reading similar arguments to last year and seeing a very similar path to the decision.

When the majority of teams vote for the better of the contest we all win. When handicaps like last years are voted to be the case, they are telling us that we are no longer welcome. Seems to me we have already seen this from another major team that no longer participates in this contest...

Punchy
See, for example, .  One user with 689 points total and 79,000 WUs.  Others with fewer points and more WUs.

The link does not work for me.
Hi, I fold for Custom-Bit Tech and was having a look at the warm up to the Chimp Challenge. Check out  Chrizzy4ever  who used to fold for us. With a few like him, we would flatten EVGA. He did lots of WU but never got any points.

I don't like folding to 20,000,000 points. It took Custom-Bit Tech seven weeks in, I think, 2009. Last years 10 day contest suited me fine.
Nice work last year, EVGA, avoiding the Monkey Paw.

UPDATES?
Asking for miracles are we? LOL

I'll check in..no one has posted much since Ive been on last
then update the thread

well - nothings changed
zodac still pushing their formula (it's been posted here already)
others are pushing multiple categories and  - "no concensus"

I even suggested another change to zodac formula - to make it more palitable - like reducing conversion discrepency
and adding new member growth bonus

I have ask troy8d for some input, but after our last contest I don't think troy can be convinced to help out or is eager to do so.
maybe some lovin his way might change his mind

usually what happens is you get 1 or 2 responses a week they sign in and look... not much discussion or ideas being floated
and not all the teams - just 3 or 4 discussing anything

And Im the guy that was checking in daily - till i got fed up with no one responding or suggesting new ideas
then I reverted to looking twice a week

That puts a tad of nervousness in my step. This is exactly how it went down last year. Then at the last minute we were told our fate and design of no chance to compete...

Or try to get [H]ardOCP to have a straight out points race with us?
Or something...

Each day that passes I am more disinclined to participate in the Chimp Challenge.  Its a month away and there is no word on what the contest format is going to be.  As a large team, we need time to get organized and get the word out.  I'm going to make a hard deadline (for my own participation) on hearing some progress on the format of April 5 - one month for us to gather members and get organized.  It does not have to be the final rendition as there is still time to argue over the finer details, but a general direction is necessary at this point.

From what I've heard through the grapevine of the captain's planning process it is a tragic combination of apathy, self-serving, and incompetence.  This is not reflective on any one individual - and a few members are working hard trying to bring everyone together, but it might be time to start thinking about alternatives.

as troy has said Ive tried - even back channeled thru the other team forums and PM to captains there
(this was a dud - because again no one answered or was interested enought to do something)

some teams still haven't logged into the CC forums (TSC for one) even tho I back channeled them the info and told them to join the discussion...

Dougnor was too busy to help any (I forgive ya  buddy) - he has work and did a lot for the last contest we had so I can't fault him

if the team wants a deadline select one now
April 5th...your asking for miracles troy...I doubt Id get a response that quick

I'll post whatever final date the team wants to CC forums..if we have no format by then we are out

Well, speaking as a participant and nothing else.

I will go with what the majority would like to do.

That said. From where I sit is would a heck of a lot more fun to have a head-to-head race with [H] like Tanner is suggesting if CC turns out to be like last year.

It is supposed to be about attracting present, past and new folders to fight cancer. And you do this when there is a competitiveness in the design of said contest.

With that in mind, what sounds more attractive (100% assumptions here)...
  • a Head-to-Head race with [H] to one Billion in the month of May
  • or a handicapped race we have no chance in even placing in the top five even though we would bring the most exposure and effort to the table?

I agree...
but talking to [H] about any contest is liable to lead to more venom and most likely no race at all.

Last time I posted any contest thoughts there they weren't interested.

Not saying someone could try a another shot at it.
Just that don't be expecting them to be enthusiastic about it
(some there don't believe in any contest outside [H])

I've gotten the impression that they even view internal competitions the way we do them as divisive and destructive to their team.

Hey guys Im a new member, obviously and Im trying to get into some of the contests that go on around here, especially CC. Where the hell do I go to sign up? I mean Im folding non- stop 24/7 on at least 2 clients, sometimes 3. It doesn't add much but I like to do the most I can. My average is 21kPPD. I figured this could go to some other good uses than simply folding for the team

Welcome to the team.

There is no sign-up for it, we change the username to EVGApes for the contest. Right now, you just need to be patient because this contest doesn't start for another month.
