um if this works out - it's a straight PPD race and there will be a handicap race for a second category OCN is the trouble spot...at the moment - I have Overclockers (Adak) and HWC trying to convince them to go this route. Still waiting from responses from other teams I even now have OCN trying to save their format... at the moment I would have to give this change serious thought (new zodac formula) weighted point categories? and not much description on how zodac proposes to weight PPD, Conversion, % Increased PPD over none CC the three combined into 1 point structure (for overall)

Glad to see that Adak posted the most current version/idea of the "bracket" solution for CC over at OCN. http://www.overclock.net/...2/chimp-challenge-2012 It also appears that the OCN members who have seen it are open to the idea and could embrace it. If Zodac as a person doesn't like it, well I think it is time that the "majority rules" for the good of CC so that it can get going. We have what appears to be a majority of people and Teams that are both ready to get this thing agreed upon and that like the "bracket" idea. I don't think any one person should be allowed to hold up moving forward with CC whether it is a CC Captain or an individual team member. Like Adak said, the contest itself is not "life and death", but the work (Folding) is...let's nail this thing down and get to recruiting!

For MPC, you have to view the "No Joke" thread to see any public thoughts about this years CC participation. There doesn't appear to be a thread titled "CC 2012" there this year. http://www.maximumpc.com/...11ec50386cd292351feb14 If MPC doesn't participate this year, for the MPC members that want to do it, they can still team-up with another CC Team to run-with-the-chimps. They are still Folding as a Team and that's what really counts!

as bobc36 mention in a PM why don't fold in honor of people in the CC> I have already suggested adding a fallen soldier/folder page and we fold in honor every year for those folders in the CC. We would add names throughout the year and commemorate them during the CC it was a good idea bob...but MPC's action to fold for Gordon had already prompted me to make the suggestion

April10 :update Seems Custom Bit-tech likes ADAK format we have OCAU onboard - they said yes on CC forums we have OCF we probably have HWC and TSC yes I finally got word from TSC anwjl and Bosun will be reps that leaves OCN and TPU Adak is finalizing a more complete format with formula seems simpler is better - like just what do you expect gonna happen when we get 20,30, or 40 teams into the CC forums to discuss formula it's got to stop now. One simple formula - one standard format every year we add more stuff...tweak it for more teams just what we need ...then things go awry again. we can have more different types of races if we want - the idea is to add teams - not shrink them from squabbling Yep ...HWC said simplier better - straight PPD even to get rid of switchin to the chimp names is lookin good

Congrats on the Blue Ribbon Xavier...you have earned that one and more! I'm really jazzed about how you guys have rallied the Teams with some new ideas. I see that Full_Taoer over at MPC posted up the going ideas for this years CC so that their members could consider it. A contest like CC will probably have to undergo some level of annual change(s) to stay interesting and current with Team Folding factors/dynamics. But, I also like that you guys are trying to keep it as simple as possible so that the every day person can try to understand the contest design. Well done...!!!

Xavier, I have one question with this latest idea. What if Teams combine (such as HWC and NCIX or other combos) and would that mess up the expected results? To be more specific, I don't see NCIX in the above table of teams, so does HWC already include the NCIX PPD, or is it hanging out there as a potential spoiler to the results? I really wish there was some easy to implement and understand way of handling this contest. The end result of CC, in the way of huge points production, is the thing that matters most. Otherwise we could all get together and run a foot-race for fun, or see who could get the highest OC out of a 2600K. My main interest in participating in CC this year (or any year) is that it needs to be fun. If this latest contest idea promotes the fun aspect, then IMO we will have a winning idea. The most enjoyable thing for me about what you and Adak have been promoting is the new ideas toward putting some new spice into the contest. That "spice" is what keeps the contest fresh and interesting to do. We can all fold-to-the-wall anytime we want to, but a spicy, interesting contest puts a lot of "fun" into the process. Thanks for working on this and trying to find middle-ground with the other Teams!

It's not really any different than last year's Chimp Points, just a different mathematical way of doing it. You can also view that spreadsheet as a race to 240,558,512 Chimp Points, where 1 EVGApes F@H point = 1 Chimp Point 1 Cbit_chimps F@H point = 2.74 Chimp Points (vs 3.35 last year) 1 ChimpPwrUp F@H point = 4.41 Chimp Points (vs 10.1) 1 MonkeyBollocks F@H point = 7.94 Chimp Points (vs 9.1) 1 MaxMonkeys F@H point = 4.21 Chimp Points (vs 3.66) 1 Beavers F@H point = 2.96 Chimp Points (vs 7.26) 1 OCNChimpin F@H point = 1.12 Chimp Points (vs 1.98) 1 T32monkeys F@H point = 2.82 Chimp Points (vs 3.18) 1 TSChimp F@H point = 2.63 Chimp Points (vs 2.95) Edit: added last year's similar factors to demonstrate how the handicaps had changed

Thanks for working on this and trying to find middle-ground with the other Teams! Yes I realized team mergers would or could be detrimental to us. I pointed that out to Adak if we base it off some previous merger of HWC& NCIX then this lessens a bit but this doesn't stop others from pulling off a merger (this would hurt OCN and Us equally - I don't think we'll be merging with teams) but if we have the full team (no chimp names ) we have our full power - then the conversion problem that kills us when we go out is gone..and we get the benefit of all those coming just for EVGA bucks, and folders that would not join the race under any circumstances I would still like to see what the team thinks rather than speak just for my self or a small number of members here

I don't like the "new idea" at all. It's just a rehash of last year's system presented in a different way with slightly different handicaps.

I think eliminating the Chimps from the Chimp Challenge destroys a lot of what made the contest unique. Is it a pain in the but to deal with? Yeah, sure it is. But is it worth it? I would say probably yes. My personal view is that as a team we should not benefit in the CC from bucks folders or people who don't even know the contest is on going. However, I also believe we should not be punished for this in the way any handicap is constructed. Regarding Punchy's comments - Of course, everyone has a different opinion on what the format should look like, but I don't think the format last year was the largest problem. To me, the problem was the utter lack of thought that was put into devising a fair handicap.

No Chimp names? That's ironic because when I proposed some ideas involving removal of Chimp names, they were dismissed because it was against the heart and soul of Chimp Challenge. Oh well... Good job XZ! It looks like you're bringing this together almost singlehandedly!

it's a proposal - not a format (the CC name - keep it/lose it) it's one thing we get to vote on if you want to keep it then say it... vote for it and then have someone communicate it to the teams at the moment I have family issues..Im wiped, tired and had little sleep. so I ask again for someone to help out until things on my end settle down I need help "A REP" for the team I don't want to do it while Im in this condition and mood tired ,crabby.lack of sleep and this is without going to the other teams to check on the CC if I hit the CC threads Id probably hit the roof..I don't have time or patience right now. Hence I need a break..for a few days so all I ask is some season veteran who has experience step in and help pull this off

To Xavier, buddy you have done a great job and rightly need to back off of this stuff and attend to your Father and family. I have your Father and your family in my prayers too. Even if CC isn't perfect, from what I'm reading, there will be lots of people that want to just run with the herd (of Chimps of course). So, please do not worry anymore about CC or who fills your shoes...you need to step out of them, so just do it and know that everything will be OK whether CC get's sorted out or not. To our Team, if we want to maintain EVGA's discussion with the Captains, then someone who understands the mathematical part of things needs to step up and help us all understand what we should do to help move the decision along. My own understanding of this stuff is pretty weak and I "glaze over" pretty fast just trying to understand the various formulas/tables, etc that are being floated. We do have people right here on our Team that are very good at that stuff and I'm not suggesting that you try to come up with yet another formula. I think what could help us is if someone could at least condense things down so that we could understand what is on the table so people could help vote on the best thing. Maybe that is not even a doable thing at this point, and if someone else has a better idea, please speak up. I just think things appear to be bogged down with OCN on several fronts (whole Team race vs single Chimp name, the points/formulae for this years Challenge, etc). If the name thing needs to go to a vote, then I suggest we put up a poll and let people vote on it and let the majority be our answer. I have no experience with creating a Poll on this forum, but am sure there are those that could do it easily. We could also use such a Poll for seeking agreement on other things if necessary. What concerns me (fully understanding the 80/20 rule), it that we are not hearing from very many Team members in this thread. I feel that it would be helpful if we had a lot more conversation from a variety of members so that the few that are talking doesn't become the "Team voice" on CC 2012. These are just my thoughts and I'm willing to help out in any way that my skills can be used. My strong-suit is just not in handicaps and points formulae development, but I'm here to help in other areas where maybe I could be of some use. Sorry for the long post...

@ texinga: I follow the thread all the time, but it seems like sometimes I get ignored, and I understand. I'm new and even though Im good at math Im still not completely up to speed on everything that goes into CC. However if you want an opinion of someone else, I can offer what little I have. Personally i think the idea a few weeks ago was the right one. Even if the "new" formula is simply a modified version of the one last year, is it really worth it to try and cause drastic change right now before CC is about to start? I say go with what everyone seems to want right now. As soon as its over, then immediately start working on the problems needing addressed. Hopefully that way, the issues can be resolved without a lot of emotional and mental strain. The whole contest does need a new image, it seems. There's a lot of people scared away from CC because they see the complaints and the arguments in the forum. Maybe that new image is losing the chimp names. If you still wanted to keep it "pure" and exclusive to only the ones who want to participate, then why not create a new side team specifically for CC, that only exists during CC. That way people get to keep their own points, but youre folding specifically for the CC. It might be a stupid idea, but it sounded good to me.

Devdog, being "new" is a welcome thing in my book and no matter how long you've been here, you're a Team Member pure and simple. I don't always respond (actually feel that sometimes I respond too much), so please feel free to speak up and know that you are being heard/read. So, which of the formulas were you thinking of when you mentioned the one from a few weeks ago? There have been several and I'd be interested in which one you felt was useful. I agree that if Teams are going to argue to infinity over changes to CC 2012, then we may as well skip this years CC and allow ourselves a year to argue the finest gnat's eyebrow of the best CC formula known to Chimp. I think all Teams need to be willing to embrace change to a larger degree than what we are seeing, or at least agree on not changing much in favor of just Chimpin' this year. Otherwise, this thing could end up in a stalemate of non-agreement and indecision. I don't believe that is what Folders across the Teams really want.

XZ, you've done a great job, now go deal w/ those closest to you. Indeed, I am willing to help wherever I can; but I am not up to speed on the current formulas up for debate, nor have I even been in a CC yet or know all the backstory on all of this to properly wade through the politics of it (and this is a must as otherwise you'll just be railroaded it looks like)... This being said though I will do whatever I can, I can figure our formulas if they're laid out, and I am more than willing to advise; I'm probably just not the best front man for this year as I have no experience with anything previous in this area... If someone who has experience can be the voice I'm more than willing to crunch the numbers and speak what I see...
