First I would like this to be pinned if it can.

Second:
Welcome all you new folders over the last year!!!
I have not been as active as I have been in the past but I have been in and out of the forums and I check the teams stats at least every 2 weeks just to see this team and how it has grown.  Last year is the first year we participated in the Chimp Challenge even though we did not win we had a very successful turnout in coming second place.

So what is the Chimp Challenge?
Basically the top teams in the world come together to compete against each other once a year.  Each team gets as many folders to fold under 1 name.  We chose EVGApes, a monkey related name.  You can see the graph of last year here: Link

OCN beat us by 4 Million and I want a rematch. We only had about 300 folders! but we had some really big folders one pushing out 1 Million PPD by themselves, and only 900 active members.  This year we have 50% more folders and the points are spread a bit more not depending on 1 person.

So whats the point? Its all in good fun and the winner gets the Good Luck Jaded Monkey and can display it on the site and only the winners can show it.  Its took us 7 days to reach 20 Million when we were making about the same PPD as we are now.  OCN beat us by a day and a 1/2.

I built a site last year and I have every email ready to spam to bring forth the forces again! http://evga.tachedout.com/

Nothing officially has been confirmed about 2010 but I like to get everything setup and in order instead of waiting until the last minute.  Regular start date is May 5th or it has been in the past.  Feel free to ask questions I just wanted to get this out in the open ASAP.

We need the passkey to get the time-based bonus on SMP projects.

On the other hand, it probably shouldn't be posted, so that some devious team doesn't sabotage us by deliberately failing a bunch of WU's with that passkey to drop it under the required 80% completion rate and thus disqualifying our WU's for the bonus.

i can not see how they can be sabotage , if they don't send in 80% on time, then they will not be getting the time bonus factor. and each folder is using a different IP address.

and if your IP don't match the wu when it start working, then you will not be credited

They could use our username and passkey, get WU's, and then delete. Those failed WU's would then fall on EVGApes shoulders, and  could bring us below the 80% completion rate.

    Please stop deleting WU's.

Exactly - since only username and passkey are used (not IP address) in the qualification calculation, anyone could disrupt our completion percentage with a simple script.   Then we would only be getting the base points for those WUs, which wouldn't be nearly as valuable.

Distributing the passkey via PM to requesters who are active folders for EVGA planning to participate in the challenge should be relatively safe.  Hopefully nobody takes this so seriously that they would be a "double agent".

Can one user have more than one passkey and have the points go to just one name? The -bigadv points are beginning to sound complicated for the CC. If only one will work, we will have to distribute it in a confidential way, but with l337's web site and spamability, we can overcome that problem.

We are still a long way off from the start of the CC. We will get new members and lose some folks between now and May. But beginning a little strategy now will help us when the competition begins. Last year we started off being too confident as a team. As we are now, a year ago we were the highest PPD team. Not only that but we had the top producing single folder in the world. We felt the contest was ours before it began. Well, we found out that a team that worked together, more like a real team, was cooperative and planned their strategy out was able to not only beat us, but they beat us with ease. We were never in the contest from the very first day. So they proved to us that brains still can beat brawn. This time around it would be nice if we could go into the challenge with a little better pre-planning and prove to everyone that team EVGA really is the best. Not only the best PPD team, but the best team (period). Let's not let OCN or any other team hand us our a$$es again.

    SPANK, BUT BE NOT SPANKED.

I think you can have multiple passkeys for the same name by using different email addresses.
    http://foldingforum.org/v...mp;t=13141&start=0
That might be the best way to avoid this potential problem.  The only downside is that each person would have to do a bit of "warmup" before the contest started to get the 10 qualifying WU's, but that shouldn't be too bad.

I'm game to do some "pre-testing" to make sure this actually works.  We only need 2 people to each grab a passkey, do the 10 qualifying WU's, then do a few more, and make sure both people are actually getting the time bonuses.

I think we need to give the people who are active for 30 days a pass key
That way we know if they are a double agent

Well we definitely need the EVGApes name to be passkey primed. If we wait until the challenge begins, then have to get 10 good WU's before any bonus points start, the contest will be well underway and we will be behind before the first bonus points hit. We will need at least one person per passkey folding under the EVGApes name to get the needed WU's well before the CC starts.

Would it be against the rules to have folding for EVGApes going now so that we have everything primed and ready when it starts up? I am sure that all points acquired before the competition start will not count, but it would let us get our systems setup and allow us to keep folding in the meantime.

You can start now, and the points are set to zero when the challenge starts. But you still have plenty of time, it usually is in May and now its Feb.

Couldn't we just create a password protected team with a single EVGAapes user and make sure only the users we know get the passkey?  This would require someone(s) to be the "keeper of the key" to make sure only known folders on the team get it that will most likely return 100% of their work units.

Then again..... I think everyone here is being paranoid.  I doubt others would come in to mess things up.  Also we can just ask folders who have not done passkey folding in the past to stick to their regular folding method to ensure we don't dip under 80% return rates.

I think I was out of the country on vacation last year during the chimp challenge so I look forward to taking part this year.  By the way, why is it called the "Chimp Challenge"?  Does the winner get to toss "you know what" at the other teams?

We don't want to set up a separate team for the CC. Even though our indiviual points will go away, if we keep EVGApes on the same team, the team still advances in points. If we move it to another team, EVGA loses the points.

The biggest advantage I can see to individual passkeys is that you can then check the stats at Stanford to make sure your own individual work is being received.  When contributing to a large effort sometimes you wonder if your clients were configured correctly, and this would tell you for sure.

The biggest disadvantage is having to "prime" the passkey for SMP folding.
