The rig has been up for a while on MR so you may have seen it... but the Mean Green Machine just got a little more green! My graphics cards were dying for some O2... so I paired the perfect green chassis with the perfect green motherboard: the Gigabyte G1 Assassin. As a tactical gamer, the military theme and gorgeous green and black styling is just icing on a great cake! (then again, EVERYONE knows the frosting is the best part :P) Even better, look online and you'll see the board goes for $460 MINIMUM. I scored this board at Micro Center (the last G1 board in ANY Micro Center ANYWHERE) for $339!!!

Alas, my system is incomplete. My mean green machine is incomplete without an SSD to boot on. If I could have any drive, it would be the new Kingston HyperX 120gb drive, but a Patriot Wildfire or OCZ Vertex 3 would also be great. However, I don't think I'll be able to get one, but you never know.

You can check out the rig by clicking on the red box by my name, be sure to +1 if you like :)

Nice looking rig there. I like the colors for that one. One of these days I'm going to get off my lazy posterior and mod my HAF 912 case.

Oh yeah, #1 is an SSD like I said. That's what I really want. After that though I'd still honestly like to go liquid with my CPU, like an H100 or something. I'd also consider getting a Kepler GPU next year depending on the increase over my current 470s and more importantly, depending on how well my rig runs BF3 on max. I anticipate sticking with X58 for quite a while as evidenced by purchasing such a motherboard. The lack of triple-channel RAM and PCI-E lanes makes Sandy Bridge unappealing, and while  LGA 2011 is on the horizon, the CPU isn't weighted nearly as much as GPU. No games really use all four cores to their fullest. Furthermore, DDR4 isn't on the horizon until something like 2013-2014, so I'm playing it by ear.

I'm bored tonight so I'll throw a few comments here n there on this forum, lol.  That's a really nice rig you have there bro.  As for the G1 being such a decent deal, all the 1st gen G1 boards are being reduced in price now, cuz the 2nd gen's are coming out.  Still a decent deal anyway.

Just as any other form of art, modding is a passion, not just a hobby.  We fawn over it, we love it, we hold it near and dear to our hearts, we are passionate about it.  We are modders, and we are artists.
Also, if you like any of the advice I give, please recommend I get a BR, thanks!

I realize that, but when you consider the original price, what you get for the price, and the price of other higher-end boards I still think it's a hell of a deal, especially since I'm planning to stick with X58.

It is a great deal, just telling you why the price got dropped.  That reminds me that I need to finish my OLD mod that I also titled the Mean Green Machine, lol.  When I say old, I mean I started it back in '01/2 and put it on hiatus not long after I started it, due to having to move, lol.

Haha nice, how green was it? I remember back then cases were more beige than green :P My first case was the cure for the beige box blues, and it was indeed quite blue and an Alienware knockoff from Raidmax (and it was a gorgeous piece of plastic :p) I was actually down at Quakecon this weekend and saw an old Alienware case that was a dead ringer for my case.

Mine started out beige and grey, lol, and I was in the process of turning it lime/fluorescent green.  Can't wait to get it back out of storage and finish it up, I had big plans for it.

Thanks for the <3 guys! Wanted to update that I added a 120gb Vertex 3 MI, and I also won another 600gb Velociraptor that I plan to RAID.

Have to be honest though, I'm not entirely satisfied. I thought the one thing to complete my rig would be an SSD and I am a little disappointed. It is faster than my old hard drive, but not by much. I bought the Vertex 3 MI because I heard it is the fastest. My read speed is 475 so that probably is good, though a bit off from 550 (I know they never hit the rated speeds). Getting this SSD validated my decision on the G1 Assassin. I actually didn't know about the difference between the dyslexia-inducing Marvell 9128 and Marvell 9182 and that my G1 had the better controller.
