Some Specs: Corsair hx1050
intel i7 4790k
gtx 980 hybrid 4gb
SLI
gtx 980 kingpin edition

Ok literally out of nowhere and for no reason my kingpin card is shown at running almost 90 degrees under no load, im crashing in all games. Like i'll start a game and within 10 seconds all of a sudden the fan will switch to max rpm and I will lose 10 fps per second until my system crashes. I looked online and apparently there are some issues with the acx cooler? I don't understand everything was working fine, just yesterday I had an 8 hour session playing witcher 3 at max settings with 0 issues....... I switched around between evga precision x and msi afterburner just to see if precision x was causing the problem, with no changes. It looked like precisonx had switched my card slots because the hybrid is in the first slot and always runs cooler but has a lower power threshold for things like overclocking, but weirdly the card showing in the first slot in the software is hotter despite having a lower power threshold(like the hybrid) and the card in the second slot is cooler despite having a higher power threshold(like the kingpin). Please help me.

Also, I put my hand next to the card and there is no way it is actually 90 degrees. No heat coming off it at all....

Really hard to say what is happening at this time without some further monitoring.  Could software related or hardware.  Keep an eye on both your GPU and CPU temps but it's also important to see what is going on with your system memory (in the event of a memory leak).  Try removing all your monitoring software, do a clean install of the latest GPU drivers and run either Heaven or Valley Benchmark.  This should give you access to GPU temps while putting a load on the card.

If the issue persists and you are using SLI, time to test them individually.

I had a board with a bad pcie slot that would jump up in temp as llong as the actual pcie slot had any abnormal pressure on it. Try using single card and swap them around. If it gives you the same problem in a different pcie, then its likley the card.

If it's the card, I'd take the cooler off and inspect.
