Hi Everyone,

I just put together my new rig:
EVGA Z170 Stinger
i7 6700k
2x8gb corsair vengeance lpx 2666
asus strix gtx 970
silverstone sfx-l 500w
samsung 250 gb ssd

But when i try to install windows from a usb key it wont boot from the usb it just goes into the bios. I then tried to boot in legacy mode but then I didn't have my mouse and keyboard during the win7 language selection screen (I couldn't continue the install). I also tried hooking up an optical drive but that didn't work either.

How can I boot into win7 install in uefi mode?
How can I install windows?

I have to use an old Dell keyboard and mouse whenever I install Windows because it won't detect my Corsair K70 or M65.

That stinks! You get the latest and greatest motherboard and then this. I'm at a loss. I spent hours trying different USB ports until I figured out my keyboard was the problem.

The only way around this issue is to slipstream USB 3.0 drivers into your Win 7 install media. This is due to changes in the Skylake platform.

Did SP1 have the USB 3.0 drivers? If so you could just do the SP1 slipstream before making your bootable USB key. If not, this method gives you a chance to slipstream other updates:

SP1 does not have the needed USB drivers, but win 8/8.1/10 do. Those OSs wont have the issue.

Doesn't the Stinger have two USB 2.0 ports? Those won't work? Is your USB key 3.0?

USB 2.0 ports wont work either, you have to integrate the drivers for Win7 to give you USB support of any kind during installation. Just for future reference, you can also skit this issue if a motherboard comes equipped with a PS/2 port.

Can you install Windows 7 from CD with some External DVD-RW?
On that way I install Windows 7 on R5E because I couldn't install Windows 7 from Bootable USB Flash as on every other board.
I follow all explanation from net for UEFI BIOS and after that people explain me I need to do that on different way.
Lucky for me I have original Windows 7 Ultimate 32/64 bit on CD and some HP External USB DVD-RW I don't keep any more internal DVD-RW.
Later I figure out how to install and with USB Flash.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit is still in this moment best option if someone want games, and less problem.
And he will stay best at least in next 5-6 months until all stable drivers for Windows 10 for different hardware show up.

For Win7 on current release you will have to slipstream the drivers. Win8/10 do not require this. This is chipset limitation.

In the future we will release a BIOS update to enable "legacy mode" to enable USB 2.0 support on Win7 install.

Just put the new BIOS file on a thumb drive and flash it right from within the BIOS. Look in the Save & Exit area of the bios for the option called "BIOS Firmware Update". Not sure if the Stinger BIOS has it, but worth taking a look. It's the easiest way.

You just need to format the flash drive to FAT32 and save your BIOS to it. It also has to be seen as a removable drive. That's it.

    Hi everyone,

I got Windows 7 (Ultimate x64) installed fine using the above-linked method of slipstreaming drivers (also linked above) into my install media. While Windows now works, I find that the system takes a very, very long time to boot. It's running on a Samsung 850EVO 250GB SSD, so it should be fast - and once Windows itself starts loading, it IS quite fast. But between the BIOS splash screen and the Windows logo showing up, I get a black screen with a blinking underscore cursor for about two minutes, during which apparently nothing happens.

    Build:
    Intel Core i5-6600k
    EVGA Z170 Stinger
    Noctua NH-L9x65 CPU cooler
    Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400MT/s 8GBx2
Silicon Power S70 SATA III 120GB 2.5" SSD
    Cooler Master Elite 110 case
    EVGA 600B 80PLUS 600W PSU
    Zotac NVIDIA GTX 970 (ZT-90101-10P)

This is a fresh install. Haven't even gotten any updates in it yet. My installer is from 2009 admittedly, so maybe there's some incompatibility with Skylake and the way it sets up the MBR on my disk? (UEFI/GPT is not an option; this is a media box, and it's very difficult to hack in a new boot animation on a GPT install of Win 7.) The installer boots nice and fast (off of a USB stick) and Windows boots speedily the first few times during setup, but once setup is done I get the blinking cursor for two minutes. I should note that I used to have this disk hooked up to an i5-3570K and an Asus P8H61 board, and it booted very quickly.

It's not a huge deal because I don't shut down or reboot very often, but it IS an annoyance I'd love to see fixed. Anyone have any similar experiences?

Could be looking for USB drivers or chipset or something similar? Perhaps graphics drivers for the CPU? I notice EVGA has a .net install for this motherboard too.. haven't seen that before, but I'd get all the Windows updates on there (I know, it takes forever), and then more importantly all the EVGA drivers and see how it runs after that. Not many people up and running on this board yet as so many are waiting on the i7-6700k to be available in North America. I certainly would not be happy with a delay in boot like that.

That is a long time for a boot. Check your Device Manager for yellow exclamation symbols indicating missing drivers. Did you install the Intel chipset drivers?

All drivers are installed, yes; no yellow ! icons in my device manager. Really, I feel like the problem isn't with Windows; it mainly seems to be an issue with the MB actually being able to find Windows in the first place. I'm writing more-recent Windows install media to a flash drive at the moment and I'm going to attempt a startup repair. We'll see if that helps at all.

Did you follow these instructions when making your USB key?
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html

    I got similar problem...
I follow strictly that advice for sevenforum on Rampage 5 Extreme and I couldn't install OS from USB on Rampage 5 Extreme
before I changed some other settings.
I couldn't do that with GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer than others explain me that I need to change to
MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI CSM...and I disconnect USB DVD-RW, CSM stay Enabled and change all Boot settings to UEFI Only...
First Boot USB Flash, Second Boot SSD for OS than finally Windows Installation start.
