I don't have a Kingpin. Why do I need a Classified Voltage tool instead of modding the BIOS and then using nvflash?

I seriously need a special Voltage Tool and can't mod my BIOS to do the same thing?

This is what I had to use on my 980 Ti Classified 4-way SLI Rig that Vince (Kingpin) told me to use in the Kingpincooling Forums.

Haven't tried This, But Possibly you could find a good OC/voltage value setting using these and then use the Maxwell Bios Editor to make a custom modded Vbios.

Primary Rig: Open Bench Table - 5960X/4.875GHz - ASUS RVE - Corsair 3000MHz-16GB - CPU-Phase Change - GPU-Chilled Water - Graphics (TBD) Secondary Rig: NZXT H630 - 980/4.5GHz - EVGA E760 - Corsair 2000MHz-12GB - CPU-HK/GPU-EK/MB-EK:Water Cooled - 3X-SLI EVGA 980ti Classified (06G-P4-4998-KR)

I already edited my LN2 BIOS but haven't flashed it yet. If it has a 'special' voltage controller I might have to add a third-party app to Afterburner as it will not interface with certain volatge controllers without the addin. I got 3 years to figure it out before my warranty expires. If my punk brother hadn't stolen my oscilloscope I would be poking and prodding each component following the signal trying to find out why it wouldn't run at Classified speeds. Scarlet-Tech stated in another thread that a DT or REF model only means it wouldn't run with the approved nVidia BIOS so I am thinking a minor voltage adjustment might be all it needs to regain its status as a real Classified.

You also could go here and ASK for a Custom Vbios if you wish:

Yeah, I have enough Reps now if that's the same thread I first tried to have my 980 BIOS modded at that required 5 Unique Rep and 5 Reps (not so unique Reps?). There is a member here that modded my 980 BIOS and I am very happy with the results. I have a hard time trusting just anyone to mod my BIOS. Some people know how to use some finesse and others just crank everything to the max. I still want my video board to perform at least at a real Classified's clock rates and last well beyond the 3 year warranty if possible.
There was a thread by Mr Dark and another I can remember who started it but had the minimum Rep requirement. I didn't even know what a Rep was.

Side note: Every PC I built using Windows 7 starts searching for updates as soon as the Services starts. Not this one. It just sits here having a stare fight with me until I manually start it.

FINALLY, After running for 12 hours until the Next Day, Windows has Downloaded and installed the Updates!

Well, I got up this morning and checked the 'Software Distribution / Download' Folder and I do finally have about 10 GB of Updates waiting. I am monitoring the Network activity using Task Manager and it is trying. I get a small spike now and then but no major constant connection. The shame is I am probably going to rip this 525 GB SSD out and use it for System Images in my Z77 build.
Case is huge in certain areas but really cramped in the back for cable management. I would have liked to see the tinted glass in the back and clear glass on the front but who am I to question the knowlege and wisdom of PC case designers?

Finally! I got 248 updates. Rebooting didn't install what I already had but I got a notice that the next time I shut down they would install. Currently at #74 of 248 and I am sure there are more to come.

Very Nice AI Crystal Case!

Looks roomy enough for a SR-2 Dual Socket Motherboard.

I just HAVE to wonder if Microsoft is doing this on purpose just to irritate Windows 7 users.

IDK, but it's working. I'm at 224 of 248 and I'm irritated as all get out. LOL

Well, hung at 0% and then I got this and now I've been waiting more than 10 minutes. I'll have to hand pick which updates I want installed since they're already downloaded.

Only 232 out of 248 failed. Now it gets stuck checking again. I'll let it sit all day and let it run tonight.

Seems like a good idea at times

Zuhl,  I might have an image - have to check the Win 7 64bit version - just clean installed when HD was replaced with a SSD - the MB & GPU are different though.

I made the image of the clean install after the updates were all done - back in May I believe it was.

Note:
Windows repair from a non- SP1 disk will not work on a system that has the mandatory SP1 update installed.

IDK why mine was rejected as a real Classified. ASIC is good, no coil whine at all, I ran at 1376 (+130) with no problems. My voltage won't boost and the slider has no effect. I am virtually locked at 1.212v. If I can get more volts it should clock higher.

You have to use the Classy voltage tool to adjust the voltage.  I put the link to the tool earlier in the thread.

The bios I linked earlier in this thread, is the stock Classy settings with an increased power limit, TDP, and the voltage table adjusted to allow for higher boost 2.0 clocks...you should try that bios.

I started over and it checked for updates all night long. There was a notice in the System Tray that updates were available for installation but nothing happened when I shut down or restarted so we're back to checking for updates again. This installation doesn't have that 100 Mb MBR section so maybe I can load the system image from my this PC but I always had problems trying to load a RAID-0 image to a single drive. I never had any Windows installation act like this. I wonder if it isn't that junk Crucial SSD?

UPDATE: All is well and we are up to date and finished, finally.

Yeah, if I get the urge. I have a LN2 VBIOS I modded myself I'd like to try. The Z77 is coming along nicely. I might want to wait for that to play with the Classified. Cable management is a breeze. PSU arrives tomorrow, Silverstone sleeved SATA cables and Noctua NF-F12 fans by Friday. 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO for storing a System Image probably Monday. I'm out of control buying all of these parts!!!

I ran out of black candles? I don't think it fully installed the first time because I didn't have the BIOS setup properly. All better now though!
