Update troubleshooter looks like it is fixing all kinds of things but nothing changes. I'm not going to jump through all of those hoops typing all of the 'stuff' into a Command Prompt. Uh uh, no way!

I'm having the same slow update problem and I already have all the previously mentioned updates installed (3138612, 3145739).

One of my older DELL XPS laptops (Windows 7 32x) and my Secondary Desktop (Windows 7 64x) updated with No Problems, But my Other DELL XPS laptop (Windows 7 64x) is the one that won't Download/Install New updates.

I can't download that no matter which browser I use. IE11 just thanks me for downloading it but nothing opens and the file is nowhere to be found.

Well, I'm using it now. We'll see if it finds anything during the day. I might try a Repair Upgrade Install if something doesn't budge soon. I already have a System Image I can restore if needed. Option #2 is to remove the 980 ti and punt this bugger out the window.

Confirm your network drivers are not corrupted.

Couple of weeks ago I did a clean install for someone when I replaced their dead HD with a SSD.  It went super fast till I loaded SP1 and a couple of other updates.  Next round of update a snail would be faster.

OK, I got this to download using Firefox: KB 3153199
I stopped the Windows Update Service and it installed. Now we wait some more.
The bugger still won't start looking for updates unless I start it manually.

I had the same problem. After changing the routine parameters, the sys initiated the update. It's worth a try. Or you jump to another system recovery point. Or check 7 with the dvd and the repair option.

Are you running 32 bit or 64 bit OS?  I'll download the 3020369 and the 3172605 rollup packs and re-host them out for you...  Maybe you can get them to download that way?

Edit - I can confirm they won't download from the MS site, they just say "thanks for downloading"...  But I can still get them through our WSUS server for ya.   Just let me know which one you need!

I'm using 64-bit Home Premium. I'll be done Folding around 12:10. In the meantime I might just flash the 4998 bios ans see what happens

Folding?

I do that "Folding at Home" stuff now and then. My twin 980s will normally put out near 1 million ppd and this 980 ti averaged 668,000 ppd. If I ran both PCs 24/7 I could do at least 1.5 million per day.

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about. I look around at all of the teams involved and I see more and more Folders dropping out. I too have lost my enthusiasm about it. Their Forum Mods are jerks. Students refuse to get involved as Moderators which tells me that there is no future in it. I personally think that the project is either dead or dying as its time has come and gone. It was a noble idea but there have been questions raised about conflict of interests when Dr. Pande got invlved with an investment capital company while remaing the head of Stanford's Folding Project. I really got tired of paying outrageous power bills while the Pharma companies cashed in on the research I was helping with for free. I decided it was better to walk away and I did.

Perfectly understand.

Good luck with your Win7-issue. I think you should let the disc do the repair, or if you have the time make a new installation.

Just did the Upgrade Repair with the install disk. All installed Updates are now gone! Huh? After it finished it told me not to shut down until it was finished repairing my .NET Framework 4.0 and that stopped responding. I downloaded the .Net Framework repair tool from MS and it ran. Now I am getting some message again saying that "Setup has detected that the .NET Framework version 4 needs to be repaired. Do not retart until Setup is Complete." I just repaired it for crying out loud!

Well, you can go on with this mess or be manly enough - you know, 16GB Ram... ^^ - and wipe your drive clean and make a new installation.

Edit: Your corrupted Win7 is a invitation for malware and more, but I'm sure you know that... Cheers, I open up another Beck's! ^^

If I can find a 500 GB SSD or 2.5" HDD I'll make a System Image of my main PC, restore it to the lame duck PC and activate it using the correct key. I have other things I need to do right now so I'll just let this piece of junk sit there and pretend to look for Updates until I get back. Maybe I'll let it Fold all night while looking for Updates. At least I'll get something useful out of letting it run all night. I am just searching for Updates and will decide whether I want to download and install them whenever it finds any.

LOL..... like I said  ''welcome to windows 10  '' ...  lol  they got it all figured out ..

I got a fresh win 7 home  on a drive that's never been activated or connected to the internet    I would try it to see what happens on my end , but  I don't know how that may affect the  copy on this drive   [same dvd and key ]  all on the same computer  ?  I don't guess its worth the risk  ??  I just don't recall if it needs to be activated to update ??   sure hate to screw myself some how

don't the latest .net  come with the latest NVidia drivers  ??   and with that cant you still get the .net's as a stand a lone down load ?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/result.aspx?q=.net&form=dlc

I have noticed a few thing I use to get for 7 from Microsoft  like that now shows ''page not found ''  like ya, Microsoft removed them so you cant just get things anymore  so easy  ..

example  [where you use to get any single update  but funny with the latest IE 11 I still cant access the catalog  anymore like I use to ]
https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Thanks.aspx?id=140

now I have not tried this link  yet ? maybe be better if you install there  active x deal ??

https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Install.aspx

I got that new ssd  and I don't want to clone never have ,  but all these thing like your getting prevents me form going ahead  cause if it goes bad for me and I go back to this drive  [platter]  will Microsoft then call it  non genuine  or void this copy and activation ??   sure don't want to be 100% out  ..   Microsoft really sunk to a new low over 10  and you not jumping all aboard with it  now you being punished  ..

like over at say toms hardware  plenty just like you and there fresh install of 7 . ''cant update'' ,  ''cant  ???''  ..    watch in a few months to a year  all the win 8/8.1 will get the same treatment  .

'' look around at all of the teams involved and I see more and more Folders dropping out. I too have lost my enthusiasm about it ''

yup same here years ago   they sent me a e-mail telling me I need to  ''upgrade ''    really?   I spend  on this stuff  donate it to you  all at my cost  and its not up to your par anymore  and ''I'' need to  invest more  ?  maybe I just turn you off  and spend that cash on me for now on ??  so looks like beggers can be choosie . just not on my dime anymore ..
onr guy was telling me how he is going to build up a new x99  intel  and all this nice stuff just for them   cause he said his z87 was not good enough ??  [sucker]   so then thing what do they spend all there grant money on , administration ??   see they figured out  there grant money can be used for payroll   wile you  cover the computer running cost  and equipment.  ya there little e- mail struck me wrong  and made me think

I found an old Seagate MomentusXT 500 GB drive and I made a System Image of this one. I might as well just restore it to 'that thing' then activate it using the correct key. Then I have all of my games, sofware and everything else already installed. I got nothing but time on my hands so if it doesn't work I'll just start over again. The only problem is I quit smoking using Chantix and I am really short tempered and cranky right now. BTW, I am looking for a 4998-KR BIOS to flash onto my Classified. Mine has Samsung memory but if you have a VBIOS with Hynix or Elpida I can still copy the voltage tables and clock speeds over to my original LN2 VBIOS. Thanks.
Side note: Every PC I built using Windows 7 starts searching for updates as soon as the Services starts. Not this one. It just sits here having a stare fight with me until I manually start it.

Re: Cant Overclock 980 Ti Classified 4998-KR 2016/08/13 04:37:49 (permalink)
On a kinda funny but nice note - I got my Gigabyte 980 TI replaced since they couldn't fix the coil whine that had gotten much, much worse, and it OCs to 1500 on air (my Classy can only do 1500 for day to day gaming under water). Popped my Kraken X41 on it and it gets 1570MHz rock stable with some extra voltage. I couldn't seem to quite get 1600 stable.

IDK why mine was rejected as a real Classified. ASIC is good, no coil whine at all, I ran at 1376 (+130) with no problems. My voltage won't boost and the slider has no effect. I am virtually locked at 1.212v. If I can get more volts it should clock higher.

Each GPU is a silicon lottery and some will clock higher than others but keep in mind that the classified 980ti is already clocked very high out of the box.

Not mine. It only boosts to 1170 MHz and 1240 if I give it some extra Power Limit. My Classified couldn't cut the mustard so it was rebranded as a Classified REF. Now I want to find out why and if it can be fixed by editing a VBIOS setting.
