I've got some bad news to report.  My i7 rig is down.  The motherboard gave up in the middle of the night.  I took my rig down to a PC store and we narrowed it down to the mobo.  So now I'm going through the RMA process to get another one.  Sorry I won't make the party on time, but I will be joining in with rigs I have left.  It will be a 35K PPD loss for our team.

I've started my Kara rig back up for 24/7 folding, since now I don't have a i7 guzzling down on power.  So I should remain within the 10k to 20k PPD range.

Well, I hope it is back up soon, and the RMA process goes seamlessly!

So I may not be able to fold as fast, but I scored some free swag from helping a friend.  I got a EVGA 8400GS GPU (fan is seized), and an Asus mobo with an Intel Pentium 4 (don't the model or even if its HT, it is 2.8GHz).  So there is some light, just not very bright.

Tanner2, thanks for the offer, but I'm going have to turn it down.  I figure by the time it gets here, EVGA will have already sent me a new RMA board.  So it only saves the team a few days.  I do appreciate the offer.

From the ashes of the i7 rig, 3 legacy rigs will rise again.  I got the Intel Core Duo laptop, Intel Pen D, and a newly aquired Pen 4 HT to rock with.  And a 8400GS GPU that I have already put in my Kara to start folding.  Don't know how fast it will fold with only 8 CUDA cores and here I thought the GT420 was horrible with its 48 CUDA cores.

Dude throw some ram in, slap thos g34 CPUs in, and crank the power up. That is going to be a beast of a folding rig. Wish I could build a rig like that.

I intend to.  If everything goes well, I'll be running it on new hardware.  If things don't go as well, I'll be running it on pure 100% authentic legacy hardware.

I believe you'll be running it on new hardware. ;)

Currently trying out Linux Ubuntu for the first time.  Quite a different experience when you get use to Windows.  Don't know how well a Intel Pentium 4 will fold, but if its like the Core Duo, slow and maybe 145 PPD.  At least it gives me something to do.  Also while going through my box full of junk, I pulled out a 8800GT GPU.  So I will try it out and possible put it to work to fold for the CST team.  I also find a GeForce 2 and the orginal GeForce 256bit.

She told me I didn't need one, that the one I have fixes supper every night.
Kinda hard to argue with that

I like her thinking . Yup definitely kinda hard to argue.

My brother would like to put a server together, he also doesn't need one as he has 2 (Mom & I) that cook, clean, wash and mend ripped seams in the butt of his work pants. But on the other hand he gets new computer parts be it a rig or server I get what he currently has so maybe I shouldn't argue with him .

Uniproc is useful.  Every point counts.  I, too, will join the fight on the uniproc fight with my Pentium 4 Laptop packing a 3.0GHz Northwood HT.  No need for throttling on mine: it'll roar up to some insane temps but keep on going.

As for my primary rig, this will be the last contest for DarkStorm.

Going to a used PC parts store today.  Maybe I will find something useful for dirt cheap.

Dude throw some ram in, slap thos g34 CPUs in, and crank the power up. That is going to be a beast of a folding rig. Wish I could build a rig like that.

I’ve been really tryin' baby
Tryin to hold back this feeling for so long
And if you feel like I feel baby
Come on, oh come on, ooh

Let’s get it on, ow baby
Let’s get it on, let’s fold baby
Let’s get it on, sugar
Let’s get it on, woo

We’re all sensitive people with so much to give
Understand me sugar
Since we got to be, let’s fold, I love you
There’s nothin’ wrong with me foldin’ with you, baby no no
And givin’ yourself to me can never be wrong
If the fold is true, oh baby ooh

-apologies to Marvin Gaye, but it had to be said-
