Hello folks,

So I've been having a big problem lately and I've searched for like 4 weeks now but I just can't find the solution for my problem, I get black screen crashes as if the power would go off (NO BSOD). I noticed these crashes only happen when the CPU is highly used (NO Overheating). Nothing has been overclocked, downclocked or anything (BIOS left as default except for HPET which has been enabled due to another issue related to my CPU). And the Windows log reporter calls it "Kernel-Power ID #41 (63)". Could anyone possibly help me? I would really appreciate it! :p

I have a Windows 64-bit ACPI based PC running which has been recently scanned on malware and viruses with nothing to be found.

Kernel power just means that the system shut off without warning not due to a software error. It's a hardware problem. Either your CPU overheated and caused your motherboard to reset the system, or your power supply is failing under load.

So I'm supposed to buy a better PSU or check my CPU and mobo for problems?

Hey again Sajin :), sorry for the late reply... but for now I don't have the time for the test (sorry 'bout that). I'll try it this weekend and I'll tell you what happend ASAP. I hope you can help me again.

P.S. I think it's my PSU because I downclocked from 3.50 GHz to 3.13 GHz and there has been no crash since. I'll do the test with standard clock speed this weekend.

That would actually more suggest the CPU than the PSU; the power difference is going to be fairly small, but the temperature difference could be huge.

Most likely a power issue.  It would be really helpful to have more details on your hardware. Motherboard, power supply (model and wattage), GPU...the more the better. Are you using a power strip or a UPS?

If your CPU is idling at 56C you're probably overheating. Max temp is 61C under load.

HeavyHemi would be correct; if your CPU (doesn't matter the make or model) is idling at 50c+, you likely have an issue with the thermal paste between the heatsink and the CPU, the fan on the heatsink isn't spinning, or, if you're using an AIO water cooler, the pump may have failed. Check these first before RMAing your CPU.

Hello everyone,

So I cleaned my PC with a compressor (lots of dust came out, it was insane) and now I get this while idling:

Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
AMD FX-6300 39 °C
Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM
8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 801MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 (CPUSocket) 32 °C
Graphics
MD32119PR (1280x1024@75Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 (NVIDIA) 35 °C
Storage
465GB Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142 ATA Device (SATA) 23 °C
Optical Drives
ATAPI iHAS124 E ATA Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

No crashes yet, will inform you when one happens. Imma test prime95 small FFTs right now.

You should clean it out every few months, depending on how dusty it gets where your at. Here in California the dust bunnies love to multiply.

That's certainly a lot better, all told. Under 40c at idle and you'll likely be okay, though you should try to get that down to around 30-35c if you can.
