Soooo as in a thread title, I need some opinions and advices from you guys on building a new rig. I'll be using it mostly for gaming and little editing. The resolution I'll be working on is 2560x1440, that's the monitor and 1920x1080 for TV. Monitor for fps titles like Battlefield and TV for adventure games Assassin's Creed or The Witcher so I can sit on a couch with controller.

Question #1:
I found very good deal on ASUS ROG GTX980Ti Matrix 4GB(claimed as the fastes 980ti) for $380, should I get it or GTX1070 for around $450 would be a better option? I think $380 for 980ti is a nobrainer, although GTX1070 consumes less power and with time and new drivers it should perform very well. So far I found that ASUS's 980ti is between 1070 and 1080, and still has a room for overclock. Should I be looking for graphic cards with more than 4GB of ram or 4GB is enough for next, let's say two years?

Question #2:
Motherboard+CPU. 4 cores vs 6 cores? YT and forums are saying 6 cores aren't really needed for gaming but wouldn't it be a good investment for future getting 6 cores? For 4 cores I'm aiming for i7 6700k and for 6 cores i7 6800k.
210$  ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII GENE for i7 6700k and $320 ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME for i7 6800k. Memory 16GB 2666mhz probably by CORSAIR.

I know none of these are EVGA if it's against some rules here, but it's the only forum I've been active some years ago. Let me know what you guys think. Time wise I should be done with this built in 2 months, so if maybe there is something new around the corner I should wait for, please advise. Thanks

With my evga 980 ti SC+, i started out on a 1080p monitor with Doom, and i was running like 160 FPS on ultra settings, then got an acer predator xb271hu 1440p 144hz monitor. Running at that resolution i went from 160 FPS to 120~ FPS. Not noticeable at all. Plus with GSYNC any dips that would take place, it matches my monitor refresh rate to the fps rate and i don't see any screen tears at all.

As for one, tough choice between the the 980 Ti and the 1070... I personally would buy a costum 1070 from MSI or EVGA. If you are now in that phase, you shouldn't turn back to the 900-series, Pascal is simply the better gpu and more future-orientated.

For two. An i7 with four cores is enough for what's coming... especially with games like Witcher 3. My i7 has simply nothing to manage with games like this. Well, there's nothing wrong with the ASUS, but I would prefer in that case Gigabyte or EVGA. + You are good to go with lower speeds from Corsair. - You will not recognize the difference ingame or while loading.

    Edit:...

    hi!

i built my new rig last week ( see my sig)

so... battlefield 3 + serious sam 3 + FaryCry3 ..etc.. all push my gtx760 to the limit 'cause i use high or ultra setting - and i do not sense any lack of FPS.... ALTHO i don't use AA or if i can i just use an little amount of 2x AA cause at 2560x1600 there is little need for it.... honest!

i was experimenting the clocks in precision so in the screenies the Mhz values are different!

BF3 Screenies with everything on ultra! ( fps varies a lot between 30-60 But 99% of the time always above 30fps)

personally... right now?... if i could i would go with a nice gtx 970 SSC that costs a whooping 350 €!!  but i cannot.. i already spent some cash on my new set up so..  the gtx760 SC will have to do and it does not disappoint at such high res!

as for the CPU from what i've read.. a intel 6th gen i7 is enough. right now? a hexa core is overkill in the present- either way the new hexa cores socket 2011-V3 are ridiculously expensive!!

PS: be very carefull with the cpu coolers...  these things are getting really really big! i hated the installation of this be quiet cooler..)...  covering the ram slots...  almost could not fit the ram stick in the 2nd slot!!!  2nd slot!!

old 9cm noctua rig vs the new cooler size!

new set up vs old set up

2nd slot almost covered.. the ram stick is a bit "sideways"
