Absolutely insane build and I do love the candy red powdercoat.

My pictures do not show the fact that it is transparent candy apple red. This means you case see the brush aluminum of the case under it. It is by far the best case I have ever owned.

I added the 3rd 480 sr-1 rad today as expect my EK-FB block this Monday. Will be posting pictures after the 4 way Sli is up and running.

The card one to two water looking line looks odd, seems like it's pulling the card on an angle....

Yeah it was in that photo,it was taken when I was in the process of testing the cards, so I was putting them in and out alot. It is straight now.

Good eye though...

I been looking at the fans on my case and thought it would look better with these grills. Course these don't have any type of filter or screen on them. So I hit then internet and found this screen material that I could work with.

You can see in this shot that it is a very fine mesh.

So after cutting a piece to fit and replacing the old fan filters with this one has me excited to get the rest of them done.

Re:Building of Big Red 2010/06/12 11:11:18 (permalink)
After getting all the grills in that I ordered I found a big error in my design.
I did not think about the width of the grills being a factor. Well they are too wide by about a 1/16" when laid side by side. So I took them down to the machine shop and they are going to cut them down so they fit. I get them back on Wednesday.  After I saw them sitting on the case I thought wow, that is alot of silver both on top and in front of the case, there by hiding my beautiful paint job on the case. So I went out to http://powderbuythepound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=46_28&products_id=560 and ordered 1 lb of Transparent Candy Red powder. I got Marcus from http://sharpcustomcoatings.com/ to agree to shoot the grills and the chrome on the back of my 3 Swifttech MP-655 Uber pumps along with the chrome brackets on them and the mounting brakets for the Koolance Reservoir Tanks.
It tuns out that 1 lb of power will cover 2 normal size PC's so I am taking my Corsair Obsidian 800D apart while I have this down time waitting on parts for Big Red. So I will now have a Big Red and Little Red sitting next to each another. Little red will be the EVGA X58 759 MB with I920 CPU and 6GB of Ram and 2 EVGA 480 HC Video.  I think I really do need to seek help, I have gone over the deep end I think.

Cheers my first of 3 Alienware OPTX 2310 monitors showed up today along with the Nvidia 3D Vision Kit.. Just hope my Ergotron DS100 Triple-monitor stand gets here around same time as other 2 monitors. Then it goes without saying hope drivers will be out soon to support these....

On another note I think I have a real illness (retail therapy) after seeing the temps on Sledgehammers I980  CPU  and the fact that I am runing with 1 PSU I pulled the trigger on a EVGA 762 MB and the 980 CPU. I decided I got 4 of these 480 HC why run a 2nd system with just one. So by Friday I will be 4way SLI.. This is the first time I have upgrade a PC twice before it was even finished being built.
Wonder if there is a twelve step program for PC Users.. (Hi my name is Sickfreak, I can't stop upgrading!)

LMAO!!!  The program doesn't work.  Trust me.  Once you contract this disease it never goes away.  LOL

Your build looks outstanding.  I love that screen/filter material you found.  I was in a hurry with my last MM build and used some normal window screen material I had laying around.  It worked, but I like the looks of yours better.

MM-FTW!

Yeah I have had this disease for many years now, just I have been having a mega flare up it seems..  LOL.

Thanks for the praise. I went all over town, after Homedepot shot me down I must have tried 4 or 5 Screen and Window stores but no luck. Then after searching on the internet I found http://twpinc.com/ and I ordered their 94 Mesh T316 Stainless .0035". This stuff is so smooth it is silly.  The 94 in the name of the part is how many squares are in an inch and your normal screen door is 28 sq per inch to give you an idea now fine it is. I even used some of it to make myself a strainer to use on my Green Tea I like to drink.

Here are the pictures of my Projector after being mounted as well as the screen. It is whisper quiet when it is rolling up or down and like the fact just one touch of the remote is all it takes to get it down or up.  I still have to finish running the power cables in a tidy way so don't think I will have wires looking a mess.

Here is the case going back together for the 2nd time, with my 4 way sli board.

They have a 75$ min order. After I am done with my build I can PM you and maybe mail you some scrapes that would fit your needs.

Wow!  Thanks a lot!  That's a very generous offer, but I'm going to a wholesale warehouse this weekend to see if I can get my hands on something similar.  I appreciate your help though.

So looking at this picture with just the screen behind the panel do you think I even need to use fan grills?

Or do you like this but with the grills powder coated same candy red?

Here are couple pictures of the newest parts to arrive...

After ordering this I read the fine print and figured out that the monitors I got (OPTX AW2310) would not fit on this stand as is, I had to order an extender bracket.

This is of topic but here is a shot of my TV room. I thought about just putting my new build on this system but since I already have a Mythtv able to record 4 shows at once and a pretty beefy windows box for misc stuff like Play back of Blu-Ray movies I have in ISO format on my 30 terabyte UnRaid box I thought sometimes it is good to go into a different room of my house. LOL...  I was lazy with lighting for this shot so my flash washed out the tv picture it look mucher better live I assure you.

I wanna see more.

I had to go black/green.  Good Idea on the Surround I am going the same route but first is a LG W3000H gotta have that 2560 x 1600.  Surround isn't even out.  You could play around with the leaked though.

Ok here is more.. I picked up the grills today and just got done with the sanding of the edges on the center grill part. It spins 360deg and the fit is so tight that after the powder coat I had to sand off the powder coat on the outside edge. Here is the first one with the center pieces in and bolted to the case. Well which do you all like better?

Here they are all freshly powder coated..

I like this look much better then the one below. The silver took too much away from the case color I do believe.

The silver would have been fine if it had only been one or two of them but to have all 6 (3 on top and 3 on the front) was just too much silver.

Here is a snap of the 3 Alienware montiors setup on the Ergotron DS100. There is a issue that I am working on to resolve. You can see how they do not line up as they are suppose to. I called Ergotron and they set me a tech note on where to place a couple squares of velcro. You can see that the right side is closer to matchimg the center then the left one. I told them I did not like this and they said sometimes a whole different DS100 can be perfectly lined up with the same monitors as the one that looks like mine. They were kind enough to cross ship me a new stand and extender bars and they even included a call tag to ship the old ones back. I hope the new one does the trick or looks like I will be hit and miss placeing squares of velcro till it fit like I want them to.

I always hate all the fan wires all over the place and most times I see the way most use the 4 pin molex to daisy chain them together and you end up with a big mess of wires stuffed in the corner of the case somewhere. I made my own fan extender cables for the nine fans in the front. Then I sleeved it and I used the very cool 8 port Fan Sensor Board from http://peformance-pcs.com/ item http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=60_392&products_id=23543 . I then plug my fan controller into the board and it regulates the speed of all 9 fans based on the temp sensor of the radiators. I also made another extender cable with 16 cables and will use it foe the top 3 x quad radiators with 2 more of these boards so I can get away with only using 1 6 port fan controller. Plus I love how neat all the fan wires are tucked away.

This is the tech mote they sent to fit the issue.. It helped some.. Fingers crossed that the new DS100 they sent to me will be beter..

You can see the right one came up some compared to the left but I thing velcro is a cheap fix for an expensive hardware item.

Well between sleeping for 12+ hrs. (some nap huh) And then marking and cutting the screen I was only able to get the top triple quad put together.
I am happy with the look it has now over the plastic grills I had on it before.
What to you all think?
Before with plastic:

After with powder coated grills:
