i am a somewhat techie dude, build a few machines in my younger years but have largely become more of a consumer of computer manufacturer build machines over the last 15 years or so. Recently i have gotten an HTC Vive, and have started to look at a PC upgrade strategy that will give me the best experience while being relatively easy to execute.

so far...I have secured the new EVGA 1080 card

question is...what do you guys think about the idea of taking the below PC (which i can get for about 900$) and swapping out the card that comes with it for the 1080? is that a stupid idea? any reason it wouldn't work? i would also upgrade the ram most likely (stock is 8GB)

also, is there a secondary market for the stock card in the HP?

please be gentile, as I've said I've been out of the game for some time...

Wait for benchmarks on the recently launched i7-6785R before deciding. Kaby lake version coming out a year from now will have 4 more pcie lanes total of 24, and compatibility with intel's 3D Xpoint memory. The 128mb eDRAM L4 cache is what makes it a winner.
