As far as using dyes, it was pretty common practice. Thing is some products can gunk up your blocks/parts or even better stain parts. You went the better route with the colored tube.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking before beginning the build. The Mayhems and stuff looks good but I didn't want to gunk anything up. Anyway, I"m happy with the rigid tubing the way it is, I just think it looks so much nicer now than before with the flexible stuff. Thanks for the input!

You'll love it, I promise you that! Just have a little patience at first and make sure of your measurements and you'll be fine. Oh, get extra tubing because if you haven't used it before you will waste extra trying to get it right. I look forward to when you do go with rigid tubing so be sure to post pics!

And thanks, it's nice to hear that others enjoy the build as well.

Hey great Build.
I too am getting ready to learn Acrylic.
You mind posting some guides? or links as to how you gained that knowledge of using Acrylic?
BTW: in one of you pics you had a spiral acrylic, Any chance you want to utilize that because OH man I have Big ideas....

First off, thanks I'm glad you liked the build.
Secondly, IDK what might be useful as far as a guide beyond some things I did. But I am surprised nobody's done that yet. When I went looking for info there wasn't a whole lot out there other than OCN's water cooling section. But mostly I found some videos and I do mean a few only!
But, here's what  I used to gain some knowledge about the rigid tubing.
https://youtu.be/mHpreTceVpw   Primochill promotion basically but it tells you how to do it.
https://youtu.be/pZ7MuUntEkI This guy shows how to heat and bend well but also of what NOT to do with rigid tubing such as dunking it in water or ice water immediately.
https://youtu.be/qUB66kum_vo  Monsoon has a few videos that were very helpful showing how to utilize their mandrel kits.
https://youtu.be/kA-gjpyUumo     https://youtu.be/fJ_XIb4llFI
https://youtu.be/y2yZsIzHYdg  The Modzoo has some good guides on rigid fittings  https://youtu.be/noBAB2FC9IA

I'm not even sure what else to tell you except you do need gloves of some sort so you don't burn yourself while heating the tubing.

  1. Get a jigg saw with a fine blade for the cutting. This makes clean, even cuts, and hack saws are a pain with rigid tubing in my opinion.
  2. Use painter's tape where you make your cuts-it stops the tubing from chipping or fracturing.
  3. I used a carpenter's pencil to mark on the tubing where bends would be, and it comes off with furniture polish when you're done. I put painter's tape on the tubing at the measured spot for the cut and marked the tape with a carpenter's pencil. I used some pledge and a microfiber towel. Why a microfiber towel? Acrylic and PETG tubing scratches very easily.
  4. Which reminds me-I used a bench vise for cutting the tubing so I had to get padded jaws and I still wrapped the tubing in a microfiber towel to avoid scratches.
  5. With the silicone insert (that slides inside the tubing to help retain it's shape while bending) pull it out of the bend you just made before heating and doing another bend on the same piece of tubing. The insert will stay in tube just pull it out of the bent part otherwise if you try to pull it out of 2 or more bends it'll either get stuck or rip in half and get stuck. You could always use dish soap on the insert, but I tried that and when heated it dried and hardened around the insert and made the insert tear.
  6. Do not try to cool off the tubing after bending by putting it in water or iced water-this will cool it to quickly and strain the material causing microfractures. Just let it sit for a couple of minutes and you're fine.
  7. Rigid tubing takes longer than flexible tubing to complete. Flexible tubing is pretty convenient and simple to connect, disconnect, etc. Rigid tubing takes more time to measure, cut, heat and bend, cool, deburr, and put in place. You have to have an idea in place of how you want the tubing to look before you start otherwise you'll waste time experimenting with this and that and the project will take forever and then some to finish.
  8. You can buy a deburring tool for rigid tubing by itself for a couple of bucks or as part of a mandrel kit.
  9. Get extra tubing. My reccomedation is get double the amount you think you need. Especially with the PETG tubing it's affordable.
  10. Either buy a mandrel kit or create your own but you need something that can facilitate consistent bends.
  11. Unlike flexible tubing, you'll know within a couple of minutes or less if you have a leak! If your seals are not set right water will shoot out immediately. I had this happen on a fitting I didn't tighten down all the way and it was like a spray of water over a sea wall :)
That's about all I can think of off the top of my head. I never found any videos that walked you through how to measure, cut, heat, and bend the tubing all at once. You can find most of those piecemeal on youtube, but there's no one truly comprehensive video that I've seen yet.

A friend of mine found this for me which actually applies to rigid tubing very well, even though it was meant for pipe bending. Sadly, he showed me this after I completed my project

It's a pain to work with on uneven surfaces like the inside of the case. It's time consuming to get it laid down smooth and without wrinkles, at least it was for me. That took about 2 hours by myself to do the inside of the case but I think it's definitely worth it, love the look of it versus a plain inside of the case. The good news is that after it's on I've had no stretching, play, bubbles, or peeling. It's on good. Definitely use 3m or a major brand, otherwise the adhesive is disappointing and it won't lay down well.

Just thought I'd update this thread as well. As I mentioned before I've done some changes since this started, most recently adding an EVGA 980 SC with EK water block and back plate. The Primochill reservoir wasn't working out for me so I switched that out to a Bitspower Z-tank. Finally, I added another radiator up front, this one's a HW labs Nemesis 240GTX. Anyway, here's what she currently looks like for those who haven't seen the other thread.

Those red back plates look very nice. I wasn't sure how those would look installed and after seeing yours I wish I'd gotten the red instead of the black. Anyway, I like the way your setup looks so far. Are you going to use rigid tubing also?

Is that a motherboard tray I see inside your case there? Next time I redo my system I'm going to get one; I really like how that looks.
And first time doing WC? You're off to a great start! I look forward to seeing pics when you this finished.

Looks good.
Glad to see you moved the tube over, GPU should have better temps now, as you are forcing the circulation directly.  Looks great, should coll really well too.

I was really happy with that setup, but the Primochill reservoir kept leaking. I called Primochill and they sent me extra shims, kind of like o-rings, but that didn't fully stop the leaking, it just slowed it down. After a short while of that I got tired of messing around with it and switched to a bitspower Z-tank instead. I just didn't have any confidence in the Primochill after all that, which is too bad, it was a great reservoir when it wasn't leaking.
