My 970 only shows 3.5 GB of VRAM in GPU-Z....?

It shows 4Gb, but games never use more than 3,5Gb. Looks like usable is only 3,5Gb.

I ran 120 seconds of Furmark Memory Stress this afternoon - Stock FTW - 1920x1080 w/8xAA.  Peaked at 3901Gb,  35-40 FPS w/ no stutters. I'm not as up to speed as a lot of y'all, but I was curious to see if I could push the card past 3.5. My gaming is racing sims, and the 970 just chews up iRacing like it's not there. Looking at Project Cars, and a possible 21:9 monitor in the future. Plus iRacing keeps threatening to go DX11 soon. Love the 970, and just hope it can hold up - so far so good.

Your better off if your card doesn't try to access that 2nd .5GB pool, this is when your low fps spike would occur. Honestly if I were Nvidia, I would release a new Bios closing off that 2nd pool from EVER being accessed by the card, you do not need more than 3GB Vram for any game@ 1080, the 970GTX is not meant to play games at any other resolution. The 980GTX is a 1440 card, you will need 2 of them if you want to game @ 4k resolution. If you think otherwise, you need to re-educate yourself.

Two things:
1. From what I've heard the driver for the 900 series has always limited access to 3.5 Gb on the 970. Nvidia, knowing the specs, has done its homework.
2. The 970 (just like the 980) supports DSR - a wonderful new feature that consumes a lot of VRAM, even at a resolution of 1080....

Currently I'm not complaining either, in fact I love my 970. I hope I can still say the same in a year or two...
