Unfortunately I cannot use those drivers. I get the "Nvidia display driver stopped responding" like so many others atm.

Does anyone get sky flickering in Valparaiso? Its white clear flickering that happens sometimes. Best I can describe it. 275.33 drivers.

Using 275.33 and a GTX 560, there is a -known- bug (only using 560's) when using "Transparency"

Turn OFF Transparency in the NVCP and reset the "in-game-" Advanced settings panel AA
Then open your BFBC2 folder settings file and make sure that BLOOM has not reset...

I noticed your comp case, given its design your card is probably running high temps...
Monitor your temps as that may be the cause of the crashing.

I will look into that. Temp. wise. My room is always toasty. I idle between 40-50c. Depending if ac is on or not. When playing max temps. get to 80-83c playing BC2 online. The latest drivers played the game fine for me. Its just that I would get the display stopped responding error random using firefox. Like I said. Others have had it happen to with their browsers. Well even in game as well. But I did not play to long when they was installed.

Maniac, my stutter wont go away. Your guide is fantastic because it really helps alot but as i said the stutter comes back after a hour gameplay. And i am almost 100% that this is a game problem not driver or hardware problem. I hope dice will make bf3 better for pc.

I've occasionally seen some "flickering" in the sky, usually way off in the distance.
Can't remember what maps it has occured, but I always thought it was to simulate far away explosions.

Maniacvvv, I just wanted to drop a note here and tell you thanks for putting this wonderful guide together so that I can refer questions about this game towards it. If I could give you another BR for it I would.

Thanks bro

I am currently working on another Guide just for Nvidia Driversets since there is so much confusion and outdated information on how to properly uninstall, install and some of the Major changes in the newest 280.xx family of Nvidia drivers.

It not finished yet, but here is the link http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1174372

That is correct.  Removing the driver folder doesn't do anything as far as solving issues with corrupted driver installs or installing new drivers. That folder is not normally used after the driver is properly installed. (barring a manual reinstall using the setup.exe of course) The vast majority of the time simply using the Nvidia uninstallers in the Control Panel applet for uninstalling programs, rebooting and performing a clean install using the Custom Install feature of the driver is all that is required. While I can appreciate all the work going into this, it might be a bit more user friendly breaking it up into two threads. A normal install, which is concise and clear, and a separate more detailed version for when you have issues.

It takes me all of 4-5 minutes to uninstall and install a Nvidia driver.
-->and that includes the reboot and setting up my Nvidia control panel....

I havent had a single problem with my drivers for years....and thats the point. Do it right, you dont have problems.

User after user comes to these fourms with terrible problems and some of the most amazing stories of totally screwed up, trashed out and totally bent OS/Game/App and driver configs... not to mention hardware issues.

There are quite a few people who think that how they did things 10 years ago with XP is just fine....

There are also alot of users who would "like" to know how to do things properly and have decent comp skills, but they just dont know how...

And there are quite a few users who have no idea how to run their computer really at all.. and are constantly fighting one issue after another.

There are also many users who cannot get things to work properly, and end up RMA'ing a perfectly good videocard...

*My guides are just that, a "guide" to help users... whoever they are.

They may be complex and detailed... but sometimes that one little bit of info can REALLY help....

And dont forget, users who are not having issues or problems... are NOT reading guides

** as for the Nvidia folder issue..
Nvidia assumes a computer that is working perfectly (hardware/software/Drivers)
-->and a updated and completly functional OS in "perfect" working order that has not been tinkered with or Broken.
As we all know, thats not the case with alot of users who are having issues.
Trust me, Leave the Nvidia folder and the Display driver folder within it alone, and delete out all the numbered driver folders.
Doing so (after having issues) could certainly help coming from a total bork... AND IT CERTAINLY WONT HURT
I try very hard to give the best advice possible, and I -do- get the end results

BC2 had very poor support for PC. No doubt about it. BF3 is Dice's baby this time around. Since they are working from the ground up with pc being the lead. Consoles getting the port. I expect it to be much more optimized and polished. Now I do expect bugs. Possibly game breaking ones at launch do to so many different configs. Sure I would like to have it first day. But, I will be waiting and reading up on reviews/problems.

Yes like I said. I don't doubt you or others on what you said about this. I was just curious on Nvidia's stance on this. Even though I screwed it up on a fresh install by deleting the folder after install. From here on I will still follow the advice in the guide since it is not hurting any thing. Again I cant thank you enough as this will help lots of people in the future. I hope you make other guides as well in the future. Ahem BF3!

I've finally gotten around to playing bfbc2 today and I'd like to ask you guys about something that's annoyed me since I installed it.  When I an under-barrel mounted grenade launcher (smoke or frag), as well as firing the rex pistol from the hip, I experience a kind of micro-stuttering with my frame-rate being fine.  I read early in the thread of someone having this issue and it was diagnosed as a cpu throttling problem, but I really doubt I'd have that issue.  I'm using a rock solid turbo 4.5Ghz oc on an i5 2500K that has plenty of voltage room, is properly cooled (stays below 60C while playing bfbc2), and doesn't throttle in any application (pick a game, any game, or benchmarks).  Is this a vsync issue or something driver related (gtx 580, 275.33)?

275.33 is not the best driver for BFBC2 using a GTX 580.

Try 266.58 or 280.26, these drivers will run much better with BFBC2

The issue you describe, is the built in animation thats playing during those actions. Running a better driver, turning down the effects setting or forcing a different DX version are all possible fixes.
I suggest trying a different driver first

Thats a very good question.

The answer is, aside from using the correct settings for my hardware, running a "clean" config and playing on "quality" servers within 1500 miles of my location, I dont do -anything-, there are no magic settings or secrets.

Using the "correct" hardware settings, simply means I do not ask my hardware to perform above its specs or in a stressful manner. I do not run any single component without having some "headroom" left. I do not overclock my videocard, do not run my CPU and memory clocks at the edge of testing failure and all my system driver settings are tested to work together correctly.

Running a "clean" config means just that. I dont not have my hardware or software setup to task at anything but what I'm trying to run. At boot to the desktop my footprint is minimal, I run no TSR's but my Audio, Mouse and Afterburner (and sometimes TS3). I have only one USB device attached to my system (my mouse). My OS and game reside together on the same SSD, with all other storage devices set to spin down to idle. And Windows 7 is left at defaults, except for updating/powerstates and search.

I only play BFBC2 in servers I ping below 50, and I do not play on poor performing servers. My connection is tested, and its performance known to the server locations I play at. When gaming, the only thing that is using my connection is my game, and I use monitoring software to keep it that way by keeping track of what is trying to use my connection and when.

Out of all the above, the most important thing for running games well is a clean hardware config that has been properly tested to perform well across the board.

I've more or less eliminated all of my issues but this weird microstutter while firing the weapons I mentioned.  Going to do a clean install of the new nVidia driver today.

Just as something to add for us Surround people it should be noted that adding more than x2 AA in game can have the effect of no water being rendered and bullets and explosions not showing up on screen properly.  Setting it to x2 does not appear to fix all issues, but at least water is rendered properly.  Just saying.  Many people will never have this issue.

Hi bro, just changing graphics settings should not cause a crash. You say you setup the NVCP as noted, did you also make the changes to the settings file in the BFBC2 folder?

Could you please post your system specs and what videocard and PSU you are using?

Hi bro, just changing graphics settings should not cause a crash. You say you setup the NVCP as noted, did you also make the changes to the settings file in the BFBC2 folder?

Could you please post your system specs and what videocard and PSU you are using?

Game was working without crash before the changes, so I suspected that it may be the changes that caused the crash.

I did make the changes in the settings file in the folder and my specs are as follows.

i7 920 (4Gz, not the problem as its been tested for 17 hours without problem using prime95 and I can play other games without problem)
EVGA E758 motherboard
EVGA GTX 570 (has accelero plus cooler)
16GB RAM
Thermaltake toughpower 1200W.  (for upcoming tri-SLI).

Try backing down the AA to x8MSAA
Also, make sure that the "render ahead" is set to the value of 2, in both the NVCP and Settings folder.

Is your Videocard overclocked?

I did have issued before, so I removed all overclock settings, Renderahead is set to 2. Changed AA, but still crashes.

I wonder if I suddenly have the crash to desktop problem.

Havent been doing any Windows update "optional" updates lately?
What server are you trying to connect to (look for good ping and decent server quality) and have you tried some other servers?
Always test after a nice clean boot, and dont run, browse or start any other programs....
There has been a Punkbuster update, are you launching the game properly as shown in my guide?
Installed anything large recently? if your using a normal HD, try a full defrag.
When testing, try and shut down -everything- possible (with special attention to newer versions of browsers)
Might be a good idea to run a virus/malware scan, just in case.
If your still having issues, might be a good idea to just reset the NVCP to you prior setting and delete the BFBC2 settings file and let it rebuild. That way if you still crash, you will KNOW its not driver settings releated.

Hey Maniac, curious about what your thoughts are regarding HyperThreading and BC2 ? been trying to find out if it is beneficial at all to have it on, I have tried both and can't really see any noticeable difference besides the lower temps with it off. I do however remember a dice rep saying that the game does utilize more than 4 cores..

I run with my HT on, and have never turned it off since I built my system

you don't need HT on ,if you open up Task Manager you can see that only one of the cores
is hitting the ceiling while the rest are only around 50% or less
