Maniac, will entering another value either lower or higher than 2 into the settings.ini file for the renderaheadlimit option improve performance? I know you have to match this setting with the setting in the NVCP. Just curious. Thanks.

Their is really NO reason to adjust The Render Ahead limit ( Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames) from (2) in the NVCP/BFBC2 settings file. This provides the correct rendering balance, given todays CPU/GPU performance levels.... Feel free to experiment (I did) and a value of (2) in the NVCP is what I have been using for many years across all the games I play, as it provides the lowest overhead and greatest performance... The higher the value is set, the smoother the game will appear (at a COST in lag) Set lower to the values or 0 or 1 will result in decreased performance overall...

As always, any change in the videodriver requires you to re-do the NVCP and BFBC2 settings files. *attention must be payed, to correctly uninstalling the old drivers in Programs and Features (as noted in the guide) and reinstalling the new drivers.

Hey Maniac thanks for all the help you've given. My game is running pretty good but I seem to be getting some kind of fps lag on recoil. Mainly on the grenade launcher from the assault kit. Right after I shoot the weapon it just stutters. I believe it happens on a few other weapons as well. q6600@3.2ghz ddr2 ram 4x2gb gtx 560ti 2gb The only thing I can think of is either trying out those new beta drivers. One other possibility is that I recently OC'd my system and I have not ran any kind of 12 hour stress test. i'm wondering if maybe I am not stable and its affecting the game but I'm new to OC and still reading up on it. Any suggestions?

Thanks FPS "lag" during recoil, is from the CPU overhead of the animation. Try adjusting the "Effects" setting downwards a notch -or- consider running in "forced" DX=9 mode

Hi Guys, This is a great forum and huge help with some of the issues I’ve been having. I was one of the poor lost souls with flickering, clipping, slow frame rates and a just plain out lousy gaming experience…even for an old guy (which I am). Then,…I found this forum and Maniac’s “Holy Grail” guide to setting up your video for BBC2 and then…(heavenly music plays)…. WOW, WOW and SOB WOW! This stuff really works!! YOU DA MAN BRO! I have been kicking the snot out of young, smart mouth punks and giggling like a little girl with candy while I’m doing it. This is HUGE…seeing as I’m a really old guy that likes FPS shooters and especially the Battlefield series. Maniac, if you’re ever in eastern GA, look me up as I’m buying the beer!! I do have a simple suggestion for your guide. If someone is just browsing or researching (like me), none of the pictures you posted show up “until you register and log in” and your guide is a lot easier with pictures! Just my .02 cents worth. After following the guide and improving my online playability a million percent, I do still have a question. If I set my NVCP Antialiasing – Mode to Application Controlled (Default) and the “in game” Anti-Aliasing to 32x CSAA , I get the most beautiful loooooooooong range visibility in the world. In the Heavy Metal map (is there any other map to play ), I can almost see from one main base to the enemy main base. It’s insanely incredible but…there just one problem. There is no smoke, haze, clouds, sky, explosions, sun, wind, birds, etc. If I switch to x16 CSAA, then all the above missing goodies, come back. I am wondering why can’t my powerhouse EVGA GTX 590 handle this? Any suggestions? Thanks again for all the help Stang out... My specs are below: - AREA 51 X58 (no over clocking of CPU or Video Card (all default speeds)
- FULL-TOWER BLACK CASE 2.0B
- INTEL BLM 2.66GHZ i7-920 A51 X58
- ELPIDA 6GB DDR3 1333MHZ JEDEC STANDARD PC3-1066
- SEAGATE 500GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB CACHE HDD
- SEAGATE 1TB 7200RPM HDD 32MB
- LG 20X DUAL LAYER DVD±R/W W/LIGHT SCRIB
- TEAC CARD READER WITH BLUETOOTH REV2
- INTEGRATED ETHERNET NIC P6T DELUXE
- INTEGRATED SOUND ASUS P6T-DELUXE with the 275.33 Driver
- Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL 64 BIT (Service PACK 1)
- DirectX 11.0
- Sound Blaster Titanium
- Matrox Triple Head to Go Digital
- 3 - LG WSV23 23” LCDs (set to SPAN Displays with Surround) at a system resolution of 5760 x 1080 @60hz

The long range rendering of "extra's" is dependant on the distance they are from you, and -very high- levels of AA can "remove" very small pixel density objects at those distances (IE 32 CSAA passes will remove small objects, explosions etc.). *you can however "scope up" and see those details Thanks, for the really nice comments bro. The guide was made to help people run BFBC2 "The way it's ment to be played" * I would love to have the pictures hosted, but dont know where I'd find a 11,000 x 23pics views hosting site

I have tried scoping up to see if the details are there (like explosions, fire, smoke, etc) and nope...only small pixel fragments. No smoke, fire, explosions, fog, haz, etx. Any above x16 CSAA and they're all gone...including the sky (its just a grey blob without any detail) weird.... any ideas?

Also, my picture comment was in reference to registering on the EVGA forums. If you're not registered...you don't see the pictures you posted in the guide. When you register, they show up. I was just sayin,g maybe put a note in your guide to register to see the pictures.

Oh thats a entirely different issue.... if the sky is a "blob" then you are certainly having a problem. Please check your PM's bro

Might be a corrupt install Stang51, my GTX 590 runs the game like it should and more ! Totally happy now, would buy maniac beers for sure if he's around in Malaysia LOL. Can't say enough about the guide, months and months of headache and frustrations of trying to solve and find out what's wrong solved within moments after coming across this guide. I almost sold my pc as i bought it few months ago just to play BFBC2 and Starcraft 2 for now. Spent a huge fortune so i was really upset when it wasn't running well.

And i went back to 16AA because i can't differentiate the image between that and 32csaa, and switched on Vertical Sync as i don't need and neither can i see the difference of more than 60fps as that is my monitor refresh rate. Also my card runs 10 degrees cooler (about 70c) and stays like that for hours and hours of intense gaming at 1920x1080 and maximum everything Lastly, who cares about a difference so small you can barely tell when everything is moving so fast and too intense to stay put and say "awwww that's gorgeous" and getting sniped shortly after

Just a little update on my situation. I am the guy with the older setup. Anyway, thanks again maniac for all the help. I was still getting CTD. And ocasionally when I got kicked to my desktop I would get a message from windows telling me to set my windows theme to basic for better performance. I ignored it for a while until I figured what the hell, I've tried everything else. So I did and I haven't crashed in a few days! Now along with that I did lower my resolution just a little bit and I changed my in game sound setting from small speakers to headphones. So I don't know if it was a combination of these things or what. But I am leaning towards the theme setting being the trick. I am pretty happy now. And I was even playing large maps, heavy metal, last night with no problems! It was great. So anyway, that's my story. See ya'll on the battlefield!

Thanks for all the help Guys. Maniac, I really appreciate all the help last night as my system now seems to be working perfectly. We (Maniac) had to wrestle with it for about 2 hours to get the drivers installed correctly but after that, it was great. Note to EVERYONE.... when you install Windows 7, make sure to enter a password. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP, or you will not have true admin rights. I did run the test earlier this evening where I unplugged the other 2 monitors and tested on only 1 monitor running 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz. In that situation, cranking up the Anti-Aliasing to 32x CSAA worked just fine. Trying to run 3 monitors at 5760 x 1080 with the Anti-Aliasing set to 32x CSAA and it (GTX 590) just runs out of memory...just as you suspected. Using 16x CSAA works just fine, looks the same and the frame rate appears to be the same, so I see no reason to worry about it. BTW...what's the key command in BFBC2 to display FPS? Thanks again Guys and Maniac YOU DA MAN!!

Hi Maniac, Props for a well written guide, you dont see many kind ppl on internets these days. I was having issues with artifacts once in a while before - like there was strange spider net looking thing attached to my crosshair going outwards to the buildings.... but that would be all sorted by the game restart. I had follwed the guide, and everything pretty much was already setup that way, except couple of settings in NVCP. I did install newest clean driver from nvidia tho... 280.26 (just an experement), which got rid of artifacts for now at least, everything esle as per your guide. I do still have couple of questions you might be able to help me with... I was playing BFBC2:Vietnam and had noticed strange performance slowdown / stutter when being in the boat turret... same goes to heli machinegun... almost looking like a server lag, everything else runs smoot as silk. And after i had exited the game, windows gave me this message: Windows has detected slow performance, would you like to turn Aero off... blah blah, my specs are pretty ok i think, and i got 8Jigabits of Rams.. weird stuff, you ever heard about that? Never got that in original BFBC2. (for some reason i dont want to go way bay to "stable" bfbc2 exclusive driver, as i play other games) Specs: i5 760 @ 3.8Ghz /H50 8GB ram 2x GTX560Ti OC MSI @ 900Mhz Windows 7 - SP1 (SP1 could be the issue?) 1000W Corssair PSU Max GPU temp on load - 65C / 58C (upper / bottom card resp.) CPU doesnt go higher than 42C.

I suggest using 280.26 as my testing has shown it to be working as well as the 266.58 for BFBC2 *I have edited my Guide to reflect that As for the "slowdown" and message about Aero (lack of resources), that appears to be from something running in the background... next time it happens, Tab/Alt and check in Task Manager quickly to see whats running thats using resources. Its doubtful it has anything to do with SP1, more likely it was Windows experience running a pass (it can do that after a new driver install) or some other process started up (check your "scheduled tasks") Good luck and happy gaming bro

Keep an eye on it, and when you start to see such things, Tab/Alt out of the game and look in your Task Manager for something that might be causing this problem. Typicaly such a program will be using alot of CPU or Ram and is easy to spot... if you can catch it in the "act".

I personally have had no issue at all with the game set to max settings, 32x antialiasing everything on high.. My control pannel settings are however almost identical to yours.. I do have a friend of mine I built a PC for that is having some issue with blockyness? He said like black blocks come outta no where, on models i think.. IDK im going to try some of the settings from your config guide AKA Bloom set to false and driver sweep and install of newest drivers 280.26 as he is currently running 275.33s the same as me.. Ill report back if it helped out or not.. BTW, hes running an i2500k@ 4.6Ghz | 4gigs 1600Mhz ram | GTX 550Ti | MSI P67 MB | Windows 7 64bit.. Really well written post /guide thanks a bunch..
