I didn't know the FOV value was changeable. Put it at 70 and it looks great!

Yes, I find that slightly increasing the FOV makes a big change in how much fun the game is to play

Ok, final update. You can play BFBC2 on an older system like mine. Without crashing too! Thanks maniac. No CTD since your help. I am running game in DX9 currently with everything on medium except static objects, water, sound and effects. They are all on low. And no OC. I may try going back to DX10 and some other adjustments eventually, to see just what I can handle. But stability is a beautiful thing!

Nice work bro, congrats

95fps is kinda low for that setup and the settings I have posted... is that with DX=Auto, or DX9?

With my settings, you should be getting 150fps+ with DX=Auto and SLI 580's

DX=Auto gave me 60fps, DX=9 + the settings you listed (scaled back all the visual goodies too) only gave me 95fps .  Any help to boost me back up would be very greatly appreciated.  As I said, I'm getting 195 fps in single player. I play the game on steam, could that somehow be an issue?

Sounds like you have/or had VSync on.. check the Nvidia control panel, make sure VSync is set to "Application Controlled".
Then open the settings file (as posted in my guide) and check that Vsync=false
Now change the DX setting back to Auto, make sure BLOOM didnt reset and save the changes and go test.

If you want, post your BFBC2 settings file and I'll look it over

i specifically turned vsync off in the settings file (didn't confirm in game though or the nvidia cpl), i will check that when i get home from work.  also turned bloom to false in the settings file, but once again, did not make sure it was confirmed in game.  I will once again check at home.  I HOPE it is something that simple

<<edit>> i'll confirm those settings tonight and if it doesn't work i'll post my settings **THANKS!!**

I get what I guess you would call micro stutter from time to time, very random issue.
This is where you get a 2-3 second drop in FPS, game play slows a bit, then it goes back to normal.
Not sure if it's a server (network) or game engine or settings issue.

sweeet!!! messed with the nvidia cpl per your guide and now i'm finally back to getting 153fps AFTER turning all my settings (which I had forced down) back up.  No more DX9 or low texture packages for me!  Thanks a ton!

Just want to point out that in the NVCP, there is an Application-contolled setting for Anisotrophic Filtering.
You neglected to mention this under this topic for NVCP settings.
So, if you use the in-game setting of 16x, you can set Anisotrophic Filtering to Application-controlled in the NVCP.

Maniac's tips, tricks, and talking to me on the phone has made me freaking LEATHAL.

I just pawned a two game streak with over 45 kills as a Sniper per run-- do not get in my cross hairs when I'm carrying my M95-- you won't survive very long.

*GiGGLe*

I also love me M16A2 Specat assault rifle too!

I can't WAIT for BF3--

Thanks again Maniac for all your help!

I'm getting there--Recon fully unlocked, working on Assault. I just want a damn scope on my M16A2--kinda hard iron-sighting these fools but I'm doing well. Average about 20 kills run and so far my deaths haven't exceeded my kills LOL.

Not sure if it's a server (network) or game engine or settings issue.

It could certainly be a server or connection issue... *(most likely)
Such things are very hard to understand unless I can see it personally in front of me while its happening.

*Its doubtful it has anything to do with any videocard settings given your dual 570 SLI performance levels.

There -are- a few places on certain maps, while looking in a certain direction you will see a slight FPS drop due to certain quirks on how that view is being rendered.. you could test and see if its happening in the same places..
*(worth remembering "where" you saw the fps drop)

There are also some configs, that appear to have random fps drops that seem to have something to do with having alot of USB devices, combined with a very high polling mouse. That can be tested by disconnecting as many USB devices as possible and/or dropping the polling rate on the mouse and testing...
*(longshot)

I'm sorry I dont have any real ideas besides the above. Such issues are very hard for one user to describe to another...

If you continue to have issues, please post back and we can try to look things over and see if anything stands out.

Exactly the same issue here.. I had this with my older game pc and with my new game pc..

First and second gameplay in multiplayer its good than it starts the stutter like you said time to time..
Check out in singleplayer.. When you doing left right left right you see the gun moving very good..
When you do this at multiplayer, you will see that the gun stutters.. Personally i think that the game
is not optimazed for PC platform. They do the best for console and for us they give us just piece of crap..

@topicopener: Thanks, it helped a bit.. The movement changed and its now like i run faster :D But as i
said before still have stutter problems.

I have a gtx580 SC btw.

I have followed your settings to the letter and guess what, no more CTD's.
I can even play with AfterBurner running in the background with OSD monitoring.
However, my average GPU usage (both 570's in SLI) is only around 65-75%.
My average FPS is in the 75-85 range, which seems low to me.
But this is probably due to the fact that my GPU usage is somewhat low.
My 1090T X6 is running a tad over 4.0GHz.

Shouldn't I be getting higher GPU usage and subsequently higher FPS?

maniac, just wanted you to know that I changed my settings to what you recommended in your guide a couple of days ago. I have a EVGA GTX 580 gpu. It makes a helluva difference compared to what I had. I noticed in particular that it seems like I can run faster. Unfortunately it didn't improve my ability to hit anything. LOL!! Everything runs smooth and the detail is amazing. Thanks for taking the time to put the guide together.
Don't forget, didn't you promise to do one for BF3??!!?? I hope. Thanks again.

GPU use with the settings I have posted should be showing 98% with some minor dips to 95 while playing...

Please check your settings, you may have missed something or set it incorrectly.

Hi maniac. I have seen posts on other websites that say running bad company 2 in administrator mode is the way to go. Is that true? Also saw people suggesting running the game in different compatibilty modes. I have Win7 x64. Should I just leave it set to windows 7 or have you heard of the game running better set to another option? Thanks!

Just leave it on Windows 7 mode and you should run it as an admin.
You may want to disable visual themes and desktop composition under the compatibility tab.
All this does is disable Windows Aero from running in the background when launching BFBC2.

Hi maniac. I have seen posts on other websites that say running bad company 2 in administrator mode is the way to go. Is that true? Also saw people suggesting running the game in different compatibilty modes. I have Win7 x64. Should I just leave it set to windows 7 or have you heard of the game running better set to another option? Thanks!

Outstanding question!

There is only one proper way to run BFBC2
START / ALL PROGRAMS / GAMES -then- "right click" on the BFBC2 icon and choose "Run as Admin"

-->Running BFBC2 in any other fashion, is incorrect and it can and does cause all kinds of issues.

Do not try and copy the .exe shortcut to the desktop. Do NOT use any compatibilty modes.

DICE/EA designed the game to run this way (fromSTART/ALL PROGRAMS/GAMES) due to the way the games DRM is designed -and- because certain features and sub features (Punkbuster Etc.) cannot work properly if its not run that way due to Admin rights permissions issues.

If your having disconnects, punkbuster problems, cant see other players pings real-time while your playing....
Then, you might be launching the game incorrectly. The game will still RUN when launched poorly, but it WILL have issues and problems that can be avoided by launching the game "correctly"

Thanks for your question and I will be editing my post to show the correct steps

Oh man, thanks a lot again maniac. Unfortunately my ctd issue came back after a couple days with no problems. And all along I have not been running the game in admin mode. Thanks and I will try this and see if it helps me return to stability.

Dont forget to open the BFBC2 "settings" file, and check that Bloom has not reset. Remember, making -any- changes to the in-game settings Options panel -will- reset it.
