Congrats bro

Lets hope the reports keep coming in so positive!

Thanks again for your help!

Played a round in Oasis everything maxed 5984x1080 FOV55
Running right up against the Vsync limit 60fps 90% of the time.  Zero stutter and no CTD!

The overclock on the cards really helped smooth things out.

I've more-or-less come to the conclusion that I have a hardware issue, so my troubleshooting is coming to an end.  I'm just going to have to wait until the 29th for the BF3 beta and if that gives me issues, back to EVGA my card goes.  Thanks for the guide though; it's really been useful for my friends and I.

Sorry for the trouble your having. I know what's its like, as I still have issues with the game. I did all the recommended settings, and googled possible fixes, tried different drivers, and made alot of changes. I still got flickering, and desktop crashes. I took out my 560 ti and put back in my old 295 dual gpu, and it may flicker once in a while, but only for a couple seconds. At least it hasn't crashed with this card yet. When I get BF3, I'll put the 560 ti back in, and see if the same thing happens. If it does, I will RMA my 560 ti.

Hey guys,

 I have followed this set up to a tee and I'm still having serious problems with BF bc2
As long as I use this set up in non SLI, every thing works great. Enable Sli and the game lockes up in about 15 min play time. I've also tried 3 different drivers for my video cards from the 285 beta to the 270.61 driver listed in this post, still same problem. I guess I can wait till the new driver comes out Monday, but I fear there will be no change. What do I need to do?

Welcome to the fourms

If everything is working correctly with one card, but when using (2) in SLI the game is locking up at the 15minute mark everytime...

That would lead to wondering about your videocard temps, as in most setups one card is always much hotter than the other.

Please install the latest Afterburner 2.2.0 BETA 7, and monitor your videocard temps using SLI.
Sounds to me like one of your cards might be temp creeping on you

Hey thanks Maniac,

   The last time it locked up I did record the temps.

Card 1 65 C @ 71%
card 2 63 C @ 83%

The temps run about the same with single card but the usage goes to 80 - 99 %.

Now THAT does not sound correct at all bro...
When running BFBC2 in SLI your GPU use should be appox the "same". Your showing more than a 10% difference? Either something is running in the background, or you might be have somekind of hardware issue...
Please go here http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1174372 and follow the steps for a custom/clean install, and test again

-->Sorry your having problems bro, lets see if we can find out whats causing it

Ok ran step by step instructions and had a big impovement, I did last 2.5 hours at lock up.

Card 1 67 C @ 66%
Card 2 65 C @ 80%
Running 280.26 driver.

BTW, I can run SLI for many hours playing COD Black ops with no problems. Does that help?

Also ran a benckmark test in SLI ( 3D mark Vantage ) Over all came in at a little lease that 34,000, Video 36,000 +, CPU 23,000 +

Thanks for all your time

Hi,
Thanks for this guide. Works perfect for me now with no more crashes to desktop, freezing or bsod's. I think the main factor may have been the "bloom" thingy as I also max out AA & AF @ 1920 x 1200. I'm using the newest BF3 beta driver.

The only issue I have with this guide are the parts where you make changes in the nVidia Control Panel for things like (mostly) the Power Management.
It's shown to make the change under the Global Settings when I should be done under Program Settings with BFBC2's exe selected. I had to add it manually which might be because I have it on Steam.
When I had the Power Management setting set to max under Global it caused my card to run hotter while doing simple things like watching videos or even letting the screen saver run.

Once you know what to do, BFBC2 takes all of 2mins to setup properly for the best possible experience.

There is no such thing as a "one button" launch when using a computer, because there are to many variables.

What driver are you using?
Please test and see if this is happening in other games or benchmarks

Full shut down and reboot.. and test

If your 580 is overclocked... reset it to default clocks and voltage--> RIGHT NOW

What you are seeing is problems with the memory on your videocard, it can be SERIOUS

Its only happening in BFBC2?

What is the condidtion of your SSD? That is a very small drive and only the OS and BFBC2 will really fit on it.

I would suggest a BFBC2 reinstall... but if thats on the SSD, then your going to need to do a "Secure Erase"

Test and make sure its only BFBC2... before you wipe anything

*also turn OFF the Precision OSD overlay display and see if it still happens

And turn off the computer, open the case and reseat the card

Copying all the files was incorrect... may be the issue.

I would uninstall BFBC2, and reinstall it properly onto the drive you want to use, NOT by copying files.

What type of media are you using for BFBC2? Disk or Download...
If its a DL, from who and what type?

I cant change Ambient Occlusion.  It is grayed out and states this application does not support it. Can you only enable it using the global menu?

I do not see a transparency option.  I know I have before, is it the beta drivers?

When BF3 comes out, can you make another amazing setup guide like this again PLEASE :)
*I see you are on it.  Thank you VERY, VERY, VERY much for your work.

My BFBC2 settings.ini @ 2560x1600 on a single GTX 580 (950/2300/1.150v)

[WindowSettings]
Width=2560
Height=1600
Fullscreen=true
RefreshRate=59.972
VSync=true
[Sound]
Quality=high
VoipEnable=true
SpeakerCount=0
[Graphics]

Undergrowth=high
StaticObjects=high
Terrain=high
Shadows=high
Bloom=true
HSAO=true
MSAA=1

MainQuality=custom
Texture=high
DxVersion=auto
Aniso=1
Detail=high
RenderAheadLimit=0
Fov=74
[Chat]
ChatWindowAlpha=10
SmallChatWindowTimer=5

VSync=true     *this should be false.

Bloom=true     *this is only working because you have your AA levels near zero

MSAA=1           *This level is so low as to greatly efffect the Quality. I suugest a minium of 4 and 7 looks best

Aniso=1           *This value is completly wrong and should be set to 4. This setting carries zero overhead and makes distant objects appear sharper

RenderAheadLimit=0     *this setting should really not be adjusted below a value of 2

Your using a 2560x1600 monitor
The settings that you are using above, will greatly impact quality in a negitive manner

Try the ones I suggest

I cant change Ambient Occlusion.  It is grayed out and states this application does not support it. Can you only enable it using the global menu?

I do not see a transparency option.  I know I have before, is it the beta drivers?

When BF3 comes out, can you make another amazing setup guide like this again PLEASE :)
*I see you are on it.  Thank you VERY, VERY, VERY much for your work.

Ambient Occlusion should be left OFF in the Nvidia control panel (BFBC2 does not use Nvidias setting)
To use it, HSAO should be enabled in-game and in the BFBC2 setting file

Transparency should be showing in your NVCP Global Setting Tab, if it is not... you have a issue.
Then you need to follow my other Guide "Nvidia Drivers"

Thanks for the comments

and I'll have the BF3 guide out as soon as possible after release!

LOL. *should* based on what? I know what VSYNC is and it's totally useless to have the card generate more frames per second than the monitor can display.
Fortunately, NVIDIA will soon implement an FPS limiter which could be much better than VSync.
I like VSync because:
1) there is no tearing and I hate that.
2) the card doesn't consume useless power to do useless frame renderings.

Note: the important thing in a setup is the MINIMUM framerate not the maximum.
My setup easily achieves a minimum FPS of 60 with a very few drops below that in a very few situations.
Obviously with the second GTX 580 that won't be an issue anymore but STILL it's useless to consume (and cool off) a KILOWATT just to get 200 fps when the monitor can only show 60.

Bloom=true     *this is only working because you have your AA levels near zero

Then please explain what bloom is.

MSAA=1           *This level is so low as to greatly efffect the Quality. I suugest a minium of 4 and 7 looks best

This is enough to get a VERY GOOD visual quality on a 2560x1600 monitor. Anyhow tomorrow I will install my second GTX 580 and the new PSU and all settings will be maxed out :)

Aniso=1           *This value is completly wrong and should be set to 4. This setting carries zero overhead and makes distant objects appear sharper

Really? I know what anisotropic filtering is but I think it causes some overhead.
maniacvvv
RenderAheadLimit=0     *this setting should really not be adjusted below a value of 2

Wrong. Framerate improves and I have no downside effects with this setting to 0.

I can send you some screenshots then so you can show me what do you mean by "negative".
The only "negative" setting is the Aniso and obviously the AA. But even with a 2x AA (the 1 setting) there are no visible aliased lines or just a few. Obviously that can be set to maximum as my new card is installed but it was not the point of my post. My settings are a good balance for a very good playability and a very small visual downgrade.

No need. I will max the settings put in a day. Posting the settings was just a starting point for people with my same configuration.

Anyhow, thanks for answering :)
