Your missing the point. BFBC2 is natively multicore threaded, the more threads the better. Its not about core loading, its about the total horsepower that is available. This is very important due to how BFBC2 uses the CPU for sound rendering. The more threads available, the better BFBC2 will run. Leave the HT on

Your not understanding how "threads" work bro... even if 4 of my threads (out of 8) are only working at 15% load, thats still a 60% increase in performance or another way of looking at it would be a 60% reduction in core stress. As everyone knows these games are console ports designed on cross platform engines, the more threads the better. Having HT on certainly does not in any way decrease performance or create any issues whatsoever running BFBC2. HT ON/OFF issues are for older games that were never designed for modern CPU's

maniacvvv Havent been doing any Windows update "optional" updates lately? What server are you trying to connect to (look for good ping and decent server quality) and have you tried some other servers? Always test after a nice clean boot, and dont run, browse or start any other programs.... There has been a Punkbuster update, are you launching the game properly as shown in my guide? Installed anything large recently? if your using a normal HD, try a full defrag. When testing, try and shut down -everything- possible (with special attention to newer versions of browsers) Might be a good idea to run a virus/malware scan, just in case. If your still having issues, might be a good idea to just reset the NVCP to you prior setting and delete the BFBC2 settings file and let it rebuild. That way if you still crash, you will KNOW its not driver settings releated. Alright, took time to do it all. Optional update are usually always installed for me, all servers I try are around 50 ping or less. Ran PB to update it and also defraged HD. Ran malwarebytes to check no malware and deleted the setting file in BFBC2 folder. Ended up crashing to desktop again. Wonder what the hell is the problem since it used to be working just fine at least a couple months. (It was working perfectly until I tried a 2way sli. BC2 started crashing and so I removed sli. Still crashing occured, but at least less frequently. The setting in the first post of this thread was attempted, and then I started crashing instantly during the loading screen when trying to get into a server). Edit: Since settings were reset, went back to the ini file, turned off bloom, turned down the refresh rate to 59 (nvidia control panel says my monitor is 60HZ though) and changed to dx9. So far it seems to be working oddly enough.

I have never installed a single Windows 7 Update "optional" update ever. And I will not do so, as there is to much of a chance it will break something. If I need a hardware update, I will read up and get it myself and install it myself, that way I KNOW if it is causing problem and fixing it is easy. Allowing Windows Update to do so, means you have no idea what happened, what caused it or how to fix it. *and, if your using Windows Update in such a manner (auto optionals) even a reformat and new install will get borked again. -->I see this issue all the time.... A user who's system is working fine, Windows does a Update and they start having problems, and a reinstall doesnt fix it because they redo all the updates.. Do not set Windows to "Auto Update" and never install any Hardware or Optional updates -ever- As for you SLI issues and the crashing... it could very well be a issue with your RAM and CPU overclock. I would loosen your Ram timings and/or drop the RAM divider and test

Having HT on certainly does not in any way decrease performance or create any issues whatsoever running BFBC2. HT ON/OFF issues are for older games that were never designed for modern CPU's yes i do Bro..,the reason i mention the other cores not being utilized to the full potential is the fact that BC2 is demanding game but NOT as much as you might think ,yes BFBC2 is natively multicore threaded but running it on only four is plenty and it might gave you surprising results ..i didn't say that HT on will "decrease performance" but i will say this ..with HT off it might run smoother .. " Problems with Hyper-Threading Customers have reported some issues where a server was performing poorly and disabling Hyper-Threading in the BIOS has caused the problems to go away. In many cases, this fix has been sufficient and therefore no further investigation has been done. If a server is suffering from poor performance and Hyper-Threading is enabled, then one of the first troubleshooting steps should be to turn it off. It must be understood that not all Hyper-Threading performance problems are due to bugs. Hyper-Threading employs a number of tricks and compromises that can mean that it just isn't appropriate to use it in all scenarios. In some cases, systems can perform better with Hyper-Threading disabled. It is important to realise that many problems are not specific to Novell NetWare with Hyper-Threading. These are industry-wide issues, not just NetWare issues. These same types of problems could happen with any operating system that is running on hardware with Hyper-Threading capabilities." http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/637.html you mention " 60% increase in performance or another way of looking at it would be a 60% reduction in core stress" well..this is BS Bro..if you get close to 30% increase i would be very surpassed to say the least ,the only difference in this game you will see with HT on is CPU utilization that's about the size of it Bro.. "Here is the same Core i7 920 processor with two cores disabled as well as HyperThreading. As you can see neither core is maxed out, but the CPU utilization is much higher. So again, a decent dual core processor such as a Core 2 Duo E8xxx or Phenom II X2 should be enough to get the most out of your graphics card in this game. While it is quad-core optimized, the game is not demanding enough on the CPU to warrant it based on what I have seen so far." http://www.techspot.com/article/255-battlefield-bad-company2-performance/page7.html http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/518995-i7-hyperthreading-negatively-impacts-gaming.html http://www.overclock.net/intel-general/671977-hyperthreading-games.html I'm not trying to argue with you here ,all i want to say.. try to run it with HT off and tell me if you see if it's that much better, there was a reason i choose 25K over 26K for now ,the games we play right now are not that demanding from CPU,future games is another story http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2010/07/05/how-many-cpu-cores-do-games-need/5

You are certainly entitled to your opinion bro... But I have to point out that the first article is about the "server host" using mutli-threading not a single users client. This is a very well known issue, as most BFBC2 game servers run at least 4 or more games at the same time on a single host server.... As for the usage CPU percentages, I was refering to CPU loading not in game performance levels. Trying to run a C2D or PxII with any decent graphics card.. and BFBC2 will of course tank. Just ask anybody who is trying to use one.... and the better the graphics card, the worse the game will run due to CPU/GPU overhead bro..

Maniacvvv, I happened upon this in regards to BFBC2 and MSI Afterburner while trying to resolve an issue here for another member. You might want to take a look and see if it's something needing to be included in your sticky here for those who use Afterburner instead of Precision.

Its interesting read, but my personal experience while using Afterburner has been perfect and without issues. I have always run Afterburner with BFBC2 since it was in BETA. Punkbuster issues are most often caused by user config errors and/or poor internet connections. -->And sometimes because users have software on their systems they shouldnt. Running Afterburner does NOT cause Punkbuster issues. One look at the OP's rig information and reported issues, says he has other problems that "maybe" Afterburner (or other mentioned prorgams) are making worse.... If such issues were truly endemic to Afterburner, there is no way myself and others would not be having even the slightest issue with Punkbuster. *I would add, that making changes to the RTF.core is very very risky. I personaly would never do so with my $1000 worth of videocards.

One of the "first" things to do if you are experiencing "issues" in BFBC2, is to turn OFF any software that uses a on screen display (OSD). Afterburner, Preciscion, X-Fire, Fraps, TeamSpeak..ECT... or any other program that uses a OSD while in-game. Such programs certainly can and do cause problems, most often with a different driverset, new Punkbuster patch or game patch... It should be one of the "First" troubleshooting steps, to turn all such OSD's off

Agreed, thats why we bought Nvidia cards I have heard about the ATI issues, but since this is Nvidialand.... Still, shuting down OSD displays is always a good idea when troubleshooting anything, if for no other reason than to rule them out as a problem right away.

Any know issues running Windows Defender while playing BFBC2? If not, then I've narrowed it down to recent PB updates conflicting with AfterBurner OSD. Was getting some consistent CTD's on Friday & Saturday, absolutely nothing changed with system. Disable Defender but ran AB OSD, played 3-4 hours Sunday w/o any CTD's.

I always run with Defender on... Have never had a problem. But you do need to set it NOT to auto scan.... (as shown below) Remember that Thursday night is EA Master Server, maintenance and updates night... And that Fri and Sat nights are prime congestion times depending on your location and that of the servers you are playing on.

Thanks Maniac, I always set Defender not to auto scan. During this time frame, I was getting frequent "connection to the server was lost" problems. So maybe these CTD's were related to server or PB issues, oh well, out of our control.

Welcome to the EVGA Fourms Go here and run the DXWebsetup, this will update your DirectX --> http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35 Also if your using Steam, you will have to make sure your games are completly patched. What mouse are you using, and do you have the correct driver installed for it?

A new patch for BC2 is coming. I am puzzled by this and confused as BF3 is just around the corner.
http://forums.electronica...ta-patch-795745-a.html
Its just EA being EA... Remember -->BF3 is very likely to have some serious issues at release. *And the early Patch one (late content, balance issues) is likely to be "rocky"..... You wont be playing BF3 using XP.... or without using Origin... So fixing those "light system' issues in BC2, will give users something to turn to, when BF3 is having teething issues

Can anyone help me? After a while of playing multiplayer my game freezes and I get a brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound from my speakers. I uninstalled all the audio drivers but I dont know what is the problem. I know it cant be my graphics card because I can play all other games just fine.

Hi bro, sorry your having problems. Please check your settings file in the BFBC2 folder. (as shown in my guide) -->Your speaker count should be set to a value of (0) when using your Logitech Z313 speakers and onboard sound. Are you using anything else audio wise while playing? voice coms, music Etc? If all your other games are fine, then there is no reason to be messing with the drivers. Its a game settings issue, bug or a conflict.

So I have switched to 280.26 driver and it did not remedy the problem. I proceeded to turn down all of the settings and try it in every DX version, vsync on or off, regardless of resolution, and it still does the same thing. I'm going to try turning off NVCP settings tomorrow, but atm, I'm at a loss.
