Well I had a little set back so that may change to even a longer time.
Having trouble getting back up to speed now, plus it was so hot here yesterday
I had to shut all my GPU's down & some CPU clients. The AC's just wouldn't keep
up so I didn't want to loose any hardware to overheating. Cooled off late in the
evening and was able to get everything back online. I'll just have to keep a close
eye on things threw out the day light hours today to see if the AC's will hold a fair temp to fold at.
Who said it was getting cooler? lol
Thanks

I said it was getting cooler, and so it is.  Reason for it is that I'm not going to break 100*F degrees this week.    It is actually a very nice 60*F morning today.  And it might get up into the 90's sometime this week.

Looks like PG made changes to quite a few projects. Lets hope it was for the better, points wise.

I'm doing the best that I can.  Mercury is folding 24/7 and Crystal is folding SMP 24/7 while its GPU folds for 10hrs while I'm at work.  I can't recuit Caboose at this time because that rig is needed for college.

Spread the word we need all team member to do what they can, no matter how small.
Perhaps you have a forum friend that normally folds, but you haven't seen them around or folding in a while.
Use the PM system to shoot them a note that we could use there help.
Edit: also maybe you have a facebook page or the likes, posting there about this may help bring new members.
Perhaps leaving a link to: Folding@Home Guides: to help get them a kick start helper 111065.

Thanks Team, fold on!

Its been a battle, but working on getting a mobile unit working for the cause.
So what ever you can bring will be a help.

Re:Battle Stations [calling all hands] 2012/09/11 14:58:09 (permalink)
You could always do what I did for a while.  Put a mITX rig or laptop in your vehicle connected by an true sine wave inverter, and use the WiFi hotspots to have the FAH transfer the WU when they are done.  I found IHOP's WiFi to work the best since they don't bring you to a discloure page when connecting to them, it just connects if you have used and saved that setting.  Though I found a few problems with this mobile rig.
1. Don't fold over 12 hours without starting the vehicle, may find a dead battery in the morning (and I have a overkill of a battery).
2. Make sure your alternator is rated higher than 90 amps.  The more, the better.
3. Leave the windows cracked on hot days.  It will get hot in the cab, around 120*F+.
4. Don't overclock, maybe downclock to keep the CPU temps in check.  Better heatsinks are always a plus.  In the winter, who cares, it will be freezing outside and it will keep the cab warmed up.
5. Don't use cheap power inverters.  Those will be mod-sine wave and won't work nicely with computer equipment.  Use a good pure or true sine wave inverter.  I have used a Xantrex ProWatt SW 600 for mobile use and a Xantrex ProWatt SW 2000 for my solar battery backup at home.
6. Don't exceed 100Watts on the power point outlet.  It's best not to exceed 90Watts and to keep wattage down when folding mobile to keep a charge longer on the battery.

Re:Battle Stations [calling all hands] 2012/09/11 16:12:58 (permalink)
Here is another tip, keep your rig hidden in the vehicle.  Just to keep it out of the eyes of priving theives.

I only did this mobile rig for about 2 weeks when I was a night stocker.  I would only work 5-6 hours at night.  So the rig would actually fold most of the time at home in my WiFi network.  Though every once in a while, us night crew would want to go eat after work and that place was IHOP.  My drive times to work and home are also short (15-20 mins), but my 120 AMP alternator and 930CCA battery (Diehard Plat 65) were able to keep up.  If you consider this mobile setup, you may want to consider a dual battery setup on your vehicle or at least a heavy duty battery.  While the inverter does have a saftey voltage cutoff, it may not leave enough to crank the engine over to start.

Now that you mention this Wolf, I might try this again with my Mercury rig.  It is far more power effeicent per PPD and still compact compared to the Sony laptop that I used before.

I started folding on my dedicated gaming rig to pitch in extra.
I also like Wolf's idea about spreading the word on social media, I will give that a shot. I know some of my friends with i5 and i7 rigs that only use it to check email and facebook anyways.

I pulled a Madris a few days back.  Pulled out the old laptop and started to fold on it again.  That was a real head banger.  For those folks old enough in folding, 750 PPD was a good amount back in 2006.  Not anymore.  So my Sony Vaio laptop finished a few WU's for a whooping  1,200 points.  I think I will let this piece of hardware slide into retirement from folding.  Besides, I have other rigs that are much more faster and energy effiecent per PPD values goes.  And Mercury is possibly going mobile rig folding, if I can find that dang inverter somewhere in this house.

Ya AB thanks, I need to get me a better EVGA. I took the one I added to my sig from one of the banners above.
Had to crop, paste & shrink it down to fit so it has lost some of its glimmer. I'm still looking, maybe I'll fine a better suited one.
As for the team it was Abit folding team to start with & became the Wolves after Abit closed its doors back in 2008.
The program I use to keep my image & stats up to date is called DC Logo and was created by one of the original members of the Abit folding team. Pretty neat little program that you can use a banner the size of the one I have or a littler bigger & add your stats to.
Pretty customizable for locations as to where these things are placed within the banner.bmp. Its uploded to your ftp at the time you pick.
I have mine set to update my stats every 3 hours. Just got to remember to keep it open & running in the back ground. lol
If anyone thinks they would like to use this I can upload it somewhere for download. Just let me know. BTW did I say you can pick your own picture to use in the banner, so long as its bmp format & named FoldLogo.bmp.

Fold team fold!

Edit: AB just for the fun of it I worked up what one could look like if say you made one with this little program.
Only took me about 10 mins., but I'm kind of use to how the program works and MS Paint.
