To OP,

ATI drivers still have kinks, IMO, but nothing major compared to the old 10.n drivers and before.  I don't get BSOD, but I do get driver crash messages in my desktop while playing WoW with full blast settings in Catalyst.  I think AF 16 from WoW + 16 AF from Catalyst could be the reason besides the 16xEQ Supersampling AA, blah blah blah...  Morphological Filtering makes every game jitter and choppy...  No driver crashes or BSOD with Star Wars, even on max setting.

Have you tried turning down the settings to your games?  See if it makes the driver stable.

FF, Chrome... and since you didn't read everything. It happens looking through my storage drives and other programs as well.

I thought the newer drivers were locking up my internet browser but it turns out that the newer versions of Firefox are just garbage. I switched to Google Chrome and dont have any issues. I also had a problem with games CTD and it would cite driver stopped working as the problem. I raised the voltage on my GTX 570 and havent had any issues since.

Let's just say I was doing multiple things at the same time.  So to answer your question, I was just mostly fast-eye scaning parts of members' replies while doing other things on and off my PC.  Multi-tasking ftw?

Kind of sucks that you guys have issues.  My oppinion, I have a lack of faith that the beta or regular drivers are totally the blame.  Yet again, I don't run Nvidia cards anymore, so I can't test the new beta drivers myself.  I don't run G Chrome or FF either.  So I apologize if I can't be of more help.

I forgot to quote the OP's thread about ATI drivers in my previous reply.  I think my train of thought at the time was mainly to focus on giving my oppinion about that since Bowenac expressed going back.

I thought I'd chime in as well.  I have a GTS 450, and have been having this problem for a long time.

I originally had an EVGA 8800 GT which was giving me sudden artifacts which would result in either a driver has stopped responding error or I would lose signal to my monitor.  This was with Windows Vista.

I got a new EVGA GTS 450, I had the exact same problem.  I replaced my PSU, upgraded to windows 7, still had the same problem.  I RMA'd my card, got a new one, and while I don't have the artifact problem anymore, I still get the flickering of my monitor on and off whenever I turn on Firefox, or any game.  My temps, voltages, etc are all within spec.

So I decided to try the new beta drivers, now I have artifacts and graphics distortions that lead to a loss of signal and a crash.  Its like my screen goes into a multicolor strobe light mode where these triangles radiating out from the center of my screen flash on and off rapidly.

EVGA wants to pretend like this isn't happening because they claim they cannot recreate the situation.  That's tough to believe when there are hundreds of people on gaming forums and hardware forums complaining about the same thing.

Just installed latest chipset drivers and after it finished it asked me to restart clicked ok, and got a nvdklm bsod when it restarted...

This was on the screen when it loaded back up... Getting tired of this. At this point not sure if it is the cards or the drivers since every driver I have tried does the same thing...

I can already tell by your partial screenshot, this is the exact same BSOD I've started experiencing on my 2x 460GTX SC. I tried the latest beta drivers (board is an x58) and it won't allow me to enable SLI so I've been forced back to the last WHQL release (285.85). It happens infrequently (I'm currently only playing SWTOR) but I was off work last week and it happened out of nowhere two days in a row.

If it happens again I'm going to be hitting the legacy drivers section on Nvidia's site and see if it alleviates itself.  Based on input in this thread, that might very well be the solution.

Re:Driver stopped responding still after fresh install... 2012/01/16 09:23:40 (permalink)
I had the TDR issue with Win 7 64 Bit only while browsing with Firefox.  It would happen up to four times a day.  Once I saw that huge thread in the Nvidia forums the O.P. linked I switched to Opera and haven't had a single TDR since.  From what I understand its related to the hardware acceleration used in Firefox and some incompatibility with Nvidia's 28X.XX drivers on.  From what I've read the next WHQL driver should have a fix.  I've been using the 290.53 beta drivers since last month, but haven't used Firefox with them, so I don't know if the TDR problem exists with them as well.  I can say they don't happen while using Chrome (which I switched to a couple weeks ago) with those drivers.

Basically, its an Nvidia/Firefox issue that's known and being worked on.  Since there is a relatively easy work-around (don't use Firefox with current Nvidia drivers) I can live with it.  If it happened while I was playing Skyrim that would be a different story.

Bowenac,
Can you try and run memtest, and see if you get any errors? I posted in another thread about this, but it could be caused by bad RAM. Especially if you got a BSOD. I would run memtest for a few hours and see what comes back. Have you tried the card in a different machine?

Or a different card in general?

I tend to agree.  When it first started with me I ran Memtest one evening and it was fine.  It also happened on the same PC and fresh install of Windows 7 with both a GTX 460 and a GTX 560, so it wasn't memory or specific GPU related.

Its easy to just assume its a driver issue. But maybe doing some more troubleshooting can rule out any hardware problems

Or you can just read the massive amounts of threads and comments and pretty easily understand it is a driver issue.

If by reading the massive amounts of threads and comments on this forum, no I haven't. I venture out and actually use google.

Also check out there other solutions at nvlddmkm.com

It's sad when people actually give first hand experience of the issue and how they fixed it, yet you just shoot it down. Hope you fix it.

I am talking about all the other users who have experienced this same thing with latest drivers but yet the older drivers work great... what do you think about that? Doesn't make much sense does it.

The only drivers that I have found to be nearly 100% stable with my sli 480`s are the 266.58 series. Sadly I am convinced that the newer drivers just don`t like the early release FERMIS very well.
Happily though. My performance has been very good with the 266.58`s so that is what I am sticking with.

I had the nvlddmkm.com error after I installed Window 7. Installed 64 bit, got the error. Re-formated, installed 32 bit version, got the error. Tried several driver versions with all installations. RMA'd & tried again. The only way I could get rid of the error was to back to XP. It amazing this problem has been around so long with no solution and nobody even saying they are working on it.

To be perfectly honest there seems to be a real hit or miss issue with the TDR/nvlddmkm problem across cards.  Though drivers.  Anything after 275.33 is seriously hit or miss.  I had three different cards all experience the same problem on three different boards, on three different configs, but once I went to the 290.53 the problem went away.  I do believe it's directly related to the drivers, but there has to be something very specific to the cards and voltage that causes the problem.

460 GTX here with latest 295.51 beta drivers.

Ive had this set up for over a year running like a champ on 285 series drivers . Bought new ssd fresh Win 7 install and GUESS WHAT ..... yep , out of the blue almost with in hours of driver up date driver crash with the "but was able to recover" message in sys tray.

Only happens to me in browsing aroun in FF

I don't and will not accept the comment that EVGA can't do anything about this !! That's B/S .  The newest FF may be crap to some of you but I never had problems with it before this driver up date . In the future I think i'm going to treat driver up dates like bios revisions . "If it ain't broke , don't fix it" Sheezzz!!

Come on evga , how about a responce here and put some heat on nvidia

I just added a second GTX 470 in SLI. (drivers 290.53)  I don't get any crashes, but it freezes on boot-up and sometimes double posts. I did get the whole "SLI option missing", but that was an easy fix.  Just roll back your Realtek network drivers.  SLI option comes right back.  It's weird.  I may try a clean sweep and install on the nvidia drivers, but I'm not convinced it's the drivers.

I had this problem for a long time. I just needed to keep installing and trying over and over until I found one that didnt give me the problem. Once I got there I learned that I should never upgrade drivers unless I wanted to repeat the process again.
