Seems pretty interesting, maybe we could give this a try?

For those who just want the basic idea without reading too much into it, it's a BOINC challenge across 5 projects, broken down into 4 groups and a 5th group that includes all BOINC projects.  5 days per project over 2 weeks so some will overlap.

Not too much information on their website right now but a challenge is a challenge.

Very clever to not announce the order of the challenges until shortly before it begins; keeping people from stocking up completed work in advance.
I nominate Herr Urlauber for our resident translator / representative if he is interested in joining this one.
I would be interested in joining; however, there may be a date conflict with the Chimp Challenge, if there ever is a CC this year.

Sounds interesting, and you could count on me.
Though I´ve pretty much given up on the CC, maybe we should still hold out signing up for this one until theres is a final decision on the CC. After all the penthatlon last from May 5 th to May  18th.

That's what I was waiting on....  Id on't know how much of a big deal it is, so I'm hesitant on even suggesting submitting the team for it even if we only have a few members taking part in it, but that is always an option....  If it doesn't interfere with the CC, I suggest this definitely falls under the category of our strike team....

I'm willing to do this as opposed to the cc, I'll be on vacation starting around the 15th.... Leaving my system crunching unwatched for 30 days is alot easier on my mind than leaving it folding.... Hopefully when I have to go matches up with the dates....

Looking at last year's, WCG fell under Showbag, PrimeGrid was the GPU, QMC@Home was Physics/Chemistry, Rosetta@Home was Bio/Med and yoyo@Home was Math.

I say we join up even if we don't have anywhere near full participation, it'll give us some insight for next year and get our name out there.  At least one of the registered teams is huge so it would be a struggle for us at full participation anyways to go for the top, but it is that part that makes it a challenge.

As far as our input on the projects, I don't have a problem with what was chosen for last year.  Possibly DistrRTgen instead of PrimeGrid?  depending on when the gpu category is ran, I believe PrimeGrid has a challenge starting May 5 and the hit on the servers will cause problems.

I don't know whether I'm ready to join this pentathlon or not because it has been a hassle for me to stabilize my computer after doubling its RAM from 6GB to 12GB.

So far, I've fully loaded all 12-threads of the i7-990X processor @3.847GHz with a combination of NFS@Home and Cosmology@Home tasks with mixed results in the VM Linux platform of VirtualBox 4.1.12 + Ubuntu 11.10 combo. Lately, there is some encouraging progress when I use BOINC Manager 7.0.25 (beta) and Linux Kernel 3.3.2-precise but nothing rock solid yet, I'm afraid.

Looks good.. How about Seti instead for the GPU? It has been a little while since I last ran that project. I just fired it back up again.

I prefer medical projects so GPUGrid for me on GPU, else the rest is fine. But either way, I don't mind.

My only issue with GPUGrid is one of my gpus randomly has a computational error with that hours into it. Similar issues same gpu and MilkyWay.... It isn't compatible with some of primegrid gpu tasks.... I thought about DistRTgen but with it not being a vault project only one or two here are registered for it.... I looked through a few of the teams registered an you get a link to their forum posts on it, I didn't notice any votes or suggestions for GPUGrid or SETI....

I would also prefer seti or gpugrid. I think I will be able to participate a little bit even if it overlaps with the CC.

Edit: Was doing some reading on their website, this challenge seems really fun!

I'm in and good with whatever GPU project.  I'm looking to put a new (to me) 560ti to good use.

We may not want to vote Correlizer, as it's been low on available work lately.  I'm good with any others (maybe RNA World or Rosetta?)

    Here are the biology options:
    1. Biology & Medicine (CPU)

Im on gpugrid(GPU) and einstein (GPU)
yes I have the odd error too (only happens if you interrupt the card during use)
be a good idea to suspend card before you use the computer

I can be around til may 14 (May 15 is the CC)
don't forget about that and come out and help the team win the chimp back

as for the other 3 disciplines... I can add them once you have decided

Yes, I like the looks of this contest and will join-in with my fellow DC Strike Force team-mates!  I'll figure some way to participate in both this challenge and of course CC 2012.  If we are strong enough to run a full fledged DC Team at EVGA, we should be strong enough to attack more than one challenge...at least I think so...all we have to do is bring the iron!!

Is anyone willing to dumb the directions down for me?

If I start a project, I typically don't get credit until 1~2 days later after validations.  So do I change over the day they say start a project or change before?

Will someone make it simple and announce to the team run this project Z from day x to day y, and so on?

And sorry, I no longer run gpus projects anymore.

    Evening Team,

I've created a participation-badge for our Sigs for those that are participating in the 2012 BOINC Pentathlon.  There are (3) different sizes, so I hope one of them will suit your space.
