For Collatz, does it only count the GPU work units? I've been crunching Collatz GPU for 2 days now and only 5 of the work units have verified... rest are pending. Is it normal to take that long?

Yes, I have about 4 pages waiting validation....

...which is perfectly normal if you're crunching on a single high-end or a few mid-range graphic cards especially the AMD-ATI ones that Johnny_Utah has.

Ah... what about if the Pentathlon counts CPU work units since it's the "GPU discipline".

Well, someone here (Crunching@EVGA) may check with somebody there (Seti.Germany) whether points are counted for mini_collatz (80% sure it does) towards the Pentathlon race.

If I can still recall correctly, it was a disaster (and if I'm not mistaken, it took almost one whole day) to crunch the non mini_collatz task. So, it's best to focus all CPU resources to perform WCG project tasks instead right after the conclusion of Rosetta@Home event.

Note: By the way, I've noticed that members of other teams have already started crunching both applications task of Collatz Conjecture project and selected the option of "Network activity suspended" that would be released with the commencement of its project event tomorrow.

Yeah, don´t waste your cpu time on the Collatz cpu tasks.
WCG starts right when the rosetta part ends.

I´m just going for the Collatz mini gpu tasks, and one of my rigs is currently crunching human proteomes for wcg. They hopefully then validate sometime after the 10th. around the 7th I´ll switch it to other projects and do what everybody else seems to do

So, use CPU = no, and un-check "collatz" but leave "mini_collatz" checked, and we're good to go?

My 460 crunches the mini collatz at about 20 min and collatz at about 2 hours or so.... If I remember right, the points are scaled so that mini takes less time and gives less points....

if you have a fast enough gpu , yeah you can run the collatz gpu  tasks as well.
My GTS 250 just takes forever on these. Unfortunately the 570 in my main rig is causing me some worries. Not sure yet on whether its the gpu or the PCIe slot going bad

just make sur eyou have use gpu checked and use cpu unchecked....  the gpu will will complete these units much faster, my 8600 does them faster than my 920 oc'd generally.  And with it being the GPU section, I'm sure cpu tasks won't count, and even if they did, the cpu time would be better utilized for rosetta and wcg than collatz....

I'm having issues with Boinc Manager on my Classy rig running (or ATTEMPTING) to run Rosetta.  I just about pulled my hair out for the last three hours.  Everytime I install BOINC and rosetta pops up, I get a little dialogue box that says "communicating with BOINC client, Please wait"  Then  "close boinc" or "cancel".
The darned program is reeking havoc with my system.  Installed /Uninstalled now 8 times and same stuff.  VERY annoying.  This is the first time ever I have had issues.

Couple of times, it gave me big problems simply shutting down the program..then even bigger ones uninstalling it!

Only thing that has changed is that I updated my BIOS to 37 tonight.

Same thing happens when I try to UPDATE for Rosetta.  Just hangs with that message.  "connection deferred" time just freezes.

what version are you trying to install?  6.12.34 is stable on my win 7 64 system....  The newest one is running on my laptop with server 2008 r2 and it is stable, also.

Are you clicking any of the buttons that are on the pop-up?  I get it randomly and wait at most 5 seconds and it goes away....  I see it more when suspending a task when it gets stuck....

Running the newest one (latest version) 7.0.25 for 64 bit downloaded here:

Yup, that dialogue box just sits on in the middle of my screen.  If I hit cancel, it just comes back in 3 seconds.

I googled that pop-up message and it looks like it has been a problem in the past.  I will keep trying although after a couple hours, I will admit this problem has the best of me right now.

looks like it might be too many items in cache?  The button you use to differentiate between active tasks and non active doesn't work either.

Ah... what about if the Pentathlon counts CPU work units since it's the "GPU discipline".

did some reading and it appears bith collatz cpu and gpu tasks are counting for the challenge
from the shoutbox on the stats page

Crystal Pellet:
@Beorn: CPU or GPU credits are not stored separately in the projects database. So for Collatz all credits are counted. [class="sb_shoutbox"]0

But I agree with RHMash, those cpu cycles are more useful on rosetta and wcg.

Also, looks like its the MB is on its way out, luckily I still have an x8 Pcie slot that´s not conenected to the nf200. Currently testing the card in there. So far folding with a -oneunit runs great. Changing that 570 to collatz when the wu is finished

Note: By the way, I've noticed that members of other teams have already started crunching both applications task of Collatz Conjecture project and selected the option of "Network activity suspended" that would be released with the commencement of its project event tomorrow.

I was playing around with the task buffer, setting it to 3 days with Rosetta and got a slew of tasks.  Then when I added Collatz, I never get more than 1 task at a time.

Is the work buffer for all projects combined, or for each project?  E.g. if you set the buffer to three days with Rosetta and Collatz active, would you expect to receive three days of tasks split between the two projects? Or three days of Rosetta tasks and three days of Collatz work?

collatz could be taking a big hit right now with people starting to fire it up.  I know a few days ago, I had trouble turning work in.

if you have two projects and they both are set at 100 for resource share, and you set a buffer, it seems like you get a total of work for the buffer split between the projects.  If you set collatz to run on the gpu, you should get 3 days for rosetta and 3 days for collatz.

The procedure that I've always practice to ensure almost equal split of work for 2 projects (please give due consideration to the points that RHMash has made just before this post) are as follow;-

1. Set "No new tasks" to both of the projects (in this case Rosetta and Collatz Conjecture) with the assumption that there is no queued up task yet.
2. Set "Additional work buffer" to 5 days or (3 days in your case).
3. Undo "No new tasks" to both of the projects.
4. Let the BOINC Manager perform or sort out the whole distribution, sometimes it does not function properly as planned therefore, we may need to trigger the "Update" option ourselves if nothing happens.
5. After all the work units have been downloaded, then set "Additional work buffer" to 0.01 day.
6. Select "Network activity suspended".

Also, understand that BOINC tracks how much time is spent on projects.  If you have two attached to your manager but you have one set to no new tasks for a month while you run the other project exclusively, when you enable tasks for the first project, you will notice work is assigned differently than 50/50 as the manager sees it as you "owing" time to the previously no new tasked project.  Unless this has been fixed from an update and I just overread it.  But in my case, it doesn't affect me as I tend to run some projects for a day or two at a time.

This has already most likely been asked and I apologize if this is annoying:

If I am running my 7970's for Collatz, should I still use the CPU to run Rosetta?  OR will I need to reserve some CPU power for the Collatz?

I'm running 7 cores on Rosetta right now (soon to be queuing WCG) and 1 core is free for GPU Collatz.

The final projects start on the 14th, yoyo and QMC and run to the end of the contest....

For Collatz, you don't need a free core if you're running gpu tasks, they only use 0.01 of a core/thread....

Whoops... didn't catch the 0.01 in the Status.

I always leave 1 core free for tasks that I have to use my computer for or everything slows to a halt.
