The POGS wu's I've been crunching have a 7 day deadline which is kind of short as crunching projects go. It's plenty of time but could backfire on you if your not on top of it. kawika, long time! Good to see the post.

Good morning from Germany all. Yes bunkering is allowed. SEI Germany and other teams are talking very openly about it. I´ve been doing this since we participated the first time and never got punished. Unlike the primegrid challenges all tasks verifired during the allocated time for the pentathlon count.

No worries and have fun BTW you can still do that for the other projects then, even tactical ones towards the end of a project

Anyone got their bunker full? If so, what was your min/max work buffer set to in BOINC manager? I've tried a few combinations to try and get from 2.5 up to 4 days worth of tasks and can't get additional work. When I update with the POGS project, the event log says "Not requesting tasks: don't need". Maybe I need to wait a day and try again using lower numbers.

pogs is the only one named so far in the challenge. It hasn't started yet, on my 3770k at 4.4ghz, the shortest task is only a few minutes, the longest is estimated at 2 hr 11 minutes....

Thanks RH, I got it figured out. My resource share for POGS was still set to 0 (zero) in BOINC manager. Once I reset it, the tasks started downloading. I now have enough to keep busy. I've cut my network to the POGS server to avoid sending tasks back for now.

I had set Boinc to .5/3.0 and it looks like about 2 days were dl'd. If I finish them and there's a lull before the race, I'll work on 2nd tier folding. Thanks for the heads-up on Collatz Mr.B NerdGZ, just suspend as needed. We don't know what all the projects are yet. You could start bunkering Skynet Pogs if you want.

Hey Pablo, if you can only run a few hours a day, SkyNet is prolly your best bet. You don´t want to end up with a ton of tasks in your "pv vault" at the end of a discipline... As for Collatz: take it with a grain of salt until its officially announced. It has already been brought up in their forums

Here is the write up from last year 10th - 15th place. We got some big boys to push past. I'd be happy with a top ten this year. 10th place: Electronic Sports League (9,8,10,12,7) A solid increase in power ensured that they crunched their way into the TOP10 this year. The Silver medal winners of 2010 seem to have found their way again. There is, however, quite a lot of work to be done for the E-sports team. ESL might be able to further promote distributed computing within their ranks. They have laid the foundations at this Pentathlon. 11th place: BOINCstats (8,12,11,8,12) A solid performance was not enough for the TOP10 this year. In order to return there, an increase will be required next year. It might be better thinking about concentrating on a single discipline, surely much more could be achieved then. 12th place: Russia (12,7,13,13,10) At first glance they appear to have gone downhill by 4 places and they will surely be dissatisfied with that result. Russia was also a casualty of the split of resources in Russia as quite important crunchers had left the team just for the Pentathlon and changed over to DC Russian Union. Lots of potential and places were squandered. 13th place: Rechenkraft.net (13,15,16,11,16) RKN were again able to improve performance this year and were thus rewarded with #13. Results at yoyo showed, however, that they are capable of more. 14th place: Crunching@EVGA (16,13,12,17,14) They held their place and were not far off from #13. They were only pushed back to #14 in the last few hours. The individual results are encouraging and suggest that there might be improvement next year. 15th place: Ukraine (14,16,19,19,13) This year, they banked on stability and did not engage in experiments. There was no place in the TOP10 for them this time round but they achieved great, solid results. Good tactics were rewarded with a good standing.

The sprint discipline has been rescheduled, as noted here. I am not sure if that means they are changing away from Collatz or not. Edit: The Collatz wu deadline was also doubled as of today, if I am reading that correctly. Should make "bunkering" that project more simple. http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/

I wonder if we can suggest to invite some heavy hitters from [H] crunchers to ride this pentathlon with us if they did not join the contest with his help we can boost some nice numbers the answer could be no or yes but if you don´t ask you don´t know.

I'm not sure this would sit well with me. While there are some heavy hitters over there which could help our team in this contest, other Pentathlon teams could view our guest crunchers as "ringers". Ringers was one of the reasons the Chimp Challenge over on the folding side fell apart and lost its fun. Besides, I think it's fun to see where we rank in the crunching universe as a team. There are enough teams competing to find some peers and keep it entertaining even if we're not in the top ranks.

Anyone interested in individual stats for our team? I think I could re-purpose the TZC setup to put out the numbers each person is getting. It would be limited to just the project(s) going on at each time. It wouldn't be 100% accurate, as they probably use some other way to collect stats, but it would be close. Just an offer as my stats box needs something to do.

well the good news is that i'm not having near the heat issues with the amd rig that i had with primegrid :) so far so good. still looking like 3 hours a task tho, does this seem right to yall guys? I'll set up the i7 hear after the kiddo gets done watchin spongebob ;) and see what its times look like. any suggestions on strat would be great, i just wanna help the team over this challenge. I'll likely just keep the amd rig on the pog task through the whole thing and maybe switch the other to sprint tasks as i am able to.

3h on pogs? Seems kind slow, but really depends on your clockspeed. On my Xeons clocked at 2.7 Ghz they take ~ 2.5h. For Rosetta this is about the time it should take with the default setting. Longer tasks have to be requested in your account settings. Iirc from last yearIt takes quite the firepower throughout the Marathon for a high ranking there. Do we skip one of the cpu disciplines and concentrate on the others to get a high ranking there? edit: my current tasks for pogs take ~3h as well, sou you might not be far off, or in line

For reference, my i-5 (no ht) at 4.0 Ghz takes between 1:05 and 1:40. My 1-7 (with ht)at 4.3 Ghz took between 1:30 and 2:00. And some pogs tasks take way longer than others. I guess we're stuck with pogs for the first 3 days anyway. I have about 500 finished and stored. Still working on more. On the i5, I dual boot w7 and w8 and I put about 30 on my Mint-on-a-stick. It should be fun.

My i7 clocked at 4.4 Ghz crunches pogs at about 1-1.5 hours. My i3 laptop running at 2.27 Ghz is anywhere from 3-5 hours. Don't know about Rosetta as I have never ran it. 713 WU waiting to be uploaded!

So those time sound about right. For Rosetta, if you leave it at the default settings, tasks should last 3h or less. For longer tasks you need to change your settings. My 2p is still chugging through its 1100 tasks. May have to look into getting one of my old G34 installs with Mint in case I run out of tasks.

I should be switching my 2P's over today, but I am not sure which one I want to focus on. Currently I have a FX-6300 building up pogs. How long are the deadlines on Rosetta? Is it safe to start bunkering them now? And any recommendation on which way I should go?

I´was trying to build up a bunker on Rosetta, but never really got past half a day or so. Iirc from last year: the Marathon was brutal. I had my complete G34 fleet (~90 cores) running SIMAP almost exclusively and we came in 16th... However, that doesn´t mean anything for this year. So I´d say put one on Rosetta already, and the other one on pogs (SkyNet) for the initial dump. Then decide on whether you want to switch to Rosetta or continue with pogs until the final disciplie is announced. In case anybody wants to have a look at the results from last year: http://www.seti-germany.de/wiki/BOINC-Pentathlon_2013 Sorry, its in German, but the tables should speak forthemselves
