I heard self quote is sexy

After being overtaken by RKN in Enigma I stopped there and currently let my POEM tasks run on that rig. Should at least keep them at bay a bit

At that time we already lost ground on the italians, and rechenkraft had overtaken us and was ulling away quite quickly.
During the next update period somebody dumped a bunker and got us back into the game again.

We def need a secret strategie room for next time so we all know who has some bunkers left without the whole world knowing it

There's always PM's... or the nuclear option... we sabotage the WU's.  :)  Either way, it's not where we show is that we show.  We need to remember that during these contests there is a small core of crunchers within this team participating.  If the team places anywhere in the top 15 against the larger teams that means one helluva lot as to the validity, staying power, drive and determination of you guys.

That's something you can take to the bank.

We finished 14th last year and it was a great accomplishment for our small team. It's natural to want to do better this year. But we know how much our team grew these past months (thanks to Dr. P) so my own selfish expectations were high. I also know that no matter where we end up in the standings, we've done 3 or 4 times as much science this year than last year.
Still I have this competitive type of DNA that I can't get away from. Ask my Pops.

I can't, I'm still interrogating Snap and Crackle.

It's not just the competition I'm speaking off...  We are now in 67th position at BOINC Stats... heading up... A lot of the current contest isn't counted in BOINC so it doesn't show right now what you folks have accomplished but when this began we went from an average 5-6 mill a day to 20 mill a day.

It's all good in my mind.  What's especially impressive is how a team as small as we are (and granted we've grown some) can do well against bigger, more experienced teams.  We'll get there, this I know.

Oh and I'm sending a swab over to you for some DNA sampling... just in case I get around to Pop.  ;)

I should have realized this sooner - there ARE ways to greatly increase your chances of getting POEM work - and I confirmed by checking other forums.  PM me if you are interested.  Of course, it only works if there is ANY work coming out of POEM; if they are taking the weekend off and there is no new work, it won't help.

Edit: never mind, server status indicates there are no more tasks available, so it's rather pointless to try now.  Maybe next contest...

Edit2: belay that never mind, it did actually work and I now have 14 POEM tasks

I suggest anyone with bunkers start uploading if they haven't already.  The POEM server seems quite slow; I've been uploading for an hour and only about half of the tasks are done.

I wondered who dropped the bomb on Poem since we had 70.228 points last hour according to the Pentathlon stats page. I think Poem updates stats on Free DC once or twice a day so its not showing up there yet.

I am getting enough Poem work to keep my gaming system busy finally, thanks to Punchy's tip. I am using the Windows version and its working well enough I have four tasks running and four or five ready to start.

I have more POEM than I know what to do with. Just down loaded now after not getting any for days. I guess I'll just abort them like the last a..hole. This kind of manipulation with the work units sucks and I'll rethink being a part of this next year.

It is a frustrating part. There are now 20,000+ available work units, indicating it was bunkered pretty severely. I too could only pick up limited POEM work units. At least they get recycled immediately rather than the issue in folding, but it certainly slows the research at POEM and really made the final discipline more of a frustration than anything.

On a more positive note, nice work to all for pushing us past RKN in POEM at the end, and giving us an overall tie for 13th.

Officially we maybe tied with Rechenkraft.net for 13th place. But if you look at the scores for each discipline then I call it a win for Crunching@EVGA because we did better in four out of five disciplines compared to Rechenkraft. They only topped us in Rosetta. Frankly I think most of us wrote Rosetta off because its a pain to run.

Great job everyone!  There were some frustrations (I didn't even get a single poem task and 100F weather forced me to shutdown for a bit) but overall I had fun and think we did a great job as a team.  Some newer members doing a ton of crunching and everyone planning bunkers and how to attack each category makes for a great time.

I second that, I know I did....
Good job, team.
Now some downtime for me to clean my systems up, get the 920 working again and put my TZC award to work!

Well done team!
I too ended up getting more POEM  tasks than I could finish in time. Now finishing off the remainig tasks and going back into retirement.

Congrats to all.
The main reason I got p'ed off about the dump of POEM was I really hated aborting them. That's a protein folding app after all. The quad core rig was set to receive min. .50 days and max 1.0 days of work due to the end of the race approaching and the desire to do some folding before the 8 day PrimeGrid challenge starts tomorrow. I got over 100 wu's and that machine might finish 25-30 in a day. I don't know why that much work came other than that rig had been requesting work for the last 4-5 days and POEM finally said "okay here you go". I feel the need to be in more control of the work that comes in because of all the interests I have with this team. I over reacted and apologize for that. Life is to short to stress about that nonsense.
Crunch/Fold/Crunch.

No need to apologize Yodap. The Poem team handled the who Pentathlon very poorly. They were told ahead of time and then did not have enough work ready. Then did not have any large batches of applications ready to go in case they were wrong. Then they played around with the number of tasks any one computer would be allowed to download. They handle their forums the same way, always behind and do not communicate with the donors unless there is a out cry.

Thanks for the link, clayton!  It's very cool (at least to me) when project admins share these type of stats.  Here's a graph of the TFLOPS per day for POGS during the contest.
