I recently found out the the backplane (Hotswap) will fail sometime. OK so I have 2 Ratops RAID1 and 3x 500GB... The 2 raptors and one of the 500GB are power by the backplane and the other two are power directly from PSU...Sometime one my Raptors death and I thought that It was the HDD failure or damaged so I sent one my Raptor back to WD for RMA and yes I got a brand new drive...It runs just fine until now the 500GB stop workings.

the funny thing is: When it fails, I restart the computer and during the booting up process. It only shows 4 HDDs instead 5. Two are the raptors and the other 2 500GB (direct for PSU) and I am missing one drive. Everything boots up really slow and start to hang right at "Starting Windows with Active logo" so I remove the fail drive and immediately all the hdds certainly run and work normally...but if I reinstall the fail drive into the port in the Backplane, I will get BSOD and the computer will restart by itself and again starts to hang at "Starting Windows" unless I remove the fail drive. But, the fail drive is actually working just fine if I don't install it into the same port. For example, there are 4 ports in the Backplane, port 1 and 4 are for the Raptors and port 3 is for one of the 500GB. If I remove drive from port 3 and install it back in. It will not work and all the rest of the HDDs will stop working too unless I remove drive out of port 3. And If I remove the drive out of port 3 and put into port 2. It will start working again same as the other HDDs.

I think the problem is the backplane does not provide enough power for the all the HDDs and that why they fail sometime and I am not the only person has the problem. If you go to Corsair Forum, you will find out that other ppl have this problem too. :(

I hope they will fix it soon and if you have this problem please report to Corsair and let them know about this.

The price of the 800D it shouldn't be having problems like this. Looks like they cut corners on the hot-swap hardware.

There is bound to be issues with all things! This problem your having sucks yes but, I'm sure Corsair will find a solution if it is their faulty equipment. If a solution can't be found I'm sure they will replace all defective hardware through RMA! Don't worry Corsair is very good at standing by their products. On a side note I'm still waiting for a power button replacement for my Cosmos S 1100. I've had an RMA in for 4 months now. They keep telling me the part is on back order!!

+1.  I'm not sure if a lot of people are having this issue or not, but I do know for sure my 800D doesn't have any problems with hot-swap.  I do it all the time and it works great.

Corsair has excellent customer support and service.

    You shouldn't worry about that.

Totally Agree. I bought the DDR2 Dom. from the other guy which it was no match with my current ram so I told Corsair about the happening and without asking me a question, they sent me the RMA number and all I did was sent out the old ram and I got a new one within few days :).

what PSU are you running on this?
just curious because since I know the 800D comes with a 4SATA Power to 1SATA Power adapter cable, Its possible the HDs arent getting enough power since some PSUs have multiple sata connections running off one line.

Before you send it in/replace it have you tried powering your HDs without the supplied Corsair Power Cable?

My other two hdds are running directly from PSU and they never fail...my guess is the SATA that Corsair includes with the 800d doesn't provide enough power for all three hdds...and If I use PSU to power them, I won't able to close the cover...anyway, We will see what happen. Right now I fixed the problem and they are running fine but Who knows when they will fail again. I will wait until Summer when I have more time to remod. my case :) BTW, my PSU has 950w which still has enough power for everything.

hmm try to connect all your HDs with power from your PSU vs the supplied corsair cable (cover open). Then attempt to copy a large file like 4GB+ to one HD to another to see if any of them fail.

This is apparently a mega problem as my friend and I just built a new rig for him only to have the raid array using the hotswap bays go belly up. We put in 4 SSD's in raid 0 and one bay just stopped working.

Too bad you can't somehow make Corsair do the work of rebuilding your array and system short of a class action suit. If they don't handle this right they may never sell another premium case!!!!!

This just should not happen on a case this expensive. It was not power as the PS is 1000 W and he used SSD's, just very poor qualitry control.

Corsair fixes things fast. I had a what appeared to be buffing on the front aluminum piece of my 800. The lady sent me a diagram asking what piece exactly. She had the new front panel ( the big anodized aluminum piece) to my front door in 5 days!. I haven't had any problems with my hot swaps and i hope i don't, but i know corsair will take care of me if there is a problem

that why I never use RAID0 since when it fails, all the applications and everything on the RAID will stop working...I set up RAID1 and they are the OS system. thankfully if the RAID stop working the mirror drive or main drive still working just fine... I have other 3 hdds and they are not raid since It wont make any diffi. lol

I know this thread has been inactive for a while, but I can confirm the OP's problems. The newer type backplane has only one power connector to run all four SATA ports, which I think is insufficient IMO. Connecting 4 HDDs and one would disappear until reboot. The drive would appear, then disappear again at anytime. Rather frustrating when transferring large files.

The fix was to remove the backplane and directly connect power cables to each HDD. Corsair were great by sending out a new backplane without charge to me in Korea, however, I still had the same problems. I have used the original SATA2 and 2 SATA3 backplanes with the same results.

It's a shame on an otherwise capable case.

bump from the dead.  I recently tossed in another drive into my hotswap bay to find out it will not work.

WD 2TB Black in hotswap bay #1 works, in any bay just fine all by itself.

If I try any other drive, in any position, it doesn't work.  I tried swapping cable positions and all, only to break the sata 1 plug port off the hotswap board in my fiddlings.  So now I have a hotswap bay that will only see 1 drive, and 3/4 working ports... TTT junk.

I guess an RMA is out of the picture since I just physically broke part of it.

I think this may just be a power issue. I have two running off of mine and it can take a total of 4. I have the new backplane that uses the single power supply connector.
