OMG! Mr. Tim Sweeney I can't believe that EVGA is allowing us to ask you 3 questions I know that it say's to ask on the topic of hardware and stuff but I also have to ask about my favorite game Gears of War I apologize ahead of time.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love the Gears of War franchise I mean your Unreal Tournament IP is beautiful but your Gears is what even inspired me to try and follow a dream I had for a long time of making games I founded my own company called DreamSparks in hopes that maybe one day I could even compete with your studio Epic Games. I never thought that a game would do that to me but yours did I am such a huge fan. I even have a Gears tattoo on my left arm I will post a picture as well at the end of this messege. With the way the economy is right now I fear that my ideas have to be put to a stop for a while since I have a wife and two kids to take care of plus I kind of have an expensive hobby as you can see which is gaming  I wish I could actually talk to you in person I have so many ideas that I think both you and your staff at Epic Games would love to hear. But hey I guess everyone can dream right I do apologize for my ranting here on the forums Jacob but I just caught this thread at about 1:30 a.m. and it freaked me out I can't believe I didn't see it earlier if it was posted. Well here comes my questions.

Mr. Tim Sweeney do you think that your Unreal Engine will incorporate raytracing for future console games?

Will we be seing new advancements in the Unreal Engine this year at E3? And if so do you think that maybe there could be a demo downloadable on the Xbox Marketplace or PSN Store for us consumers to check out? "Or maybe send me and exclusive invite"

How do you see Epic Games implementing NVidia's new DX11, Tessellation, and PhysX into the Unreal Engine when currently this is already a beast of an Engine?

And one more thing will the Unreal Tournament Franchise ever collide with Gears of War Franchise in one game? I've actually had dreams of this happening  Reaper just curb stomping the hell out of a Theron Guard. This would be so awesome.

Oh yeah and for some reason I think my account on Epics forums was stolen I can't login anymore my username is the same DevilsTestament.

Below my tattoo the words say "Get Raped"

Thank you again EVGA for this opportunity and also Mr. Tim Sweeney for even listening.

1) When do you believe that fully destructible environments will become reality? This includes being able to destroy the ground as well as break individual objects into smaller pieces in a realistic fashion.

2) What kind of technology do you think fully destructible environments require? Will we require in radical shift in how we render our games or do we just need more GPU horsepower?

Hello there.

Will the Unreal Game Engine have a selection in-game regarding how many CPU Cores upto and including HT being implemented particularly on Intels Chips that you can use to drive the game to higher limits?

1. What goals were you pursuing as far as graphics, gameplay, hardware requirements, etc when designing the unreal engine 3?
2. What features are you planning to bring over from UE3, and what features are you planning to add into unreal engine 4?
3. When you design a game engine for the PC, do you design for hardware that does not yet popularly exist?(Eg- along the lines of crysis, which was virtually unplayable on higher settings for most people's rigs)

1. Will Epic push towards DX11 becoming more mainstream than DX9 is? And by that I mean whether or not they will support the PC gaming environment that most game producers today ignore in order to produce console games in DX9.

2. Do you ever think that PC gaming will ever reach the number of players it used to have before Online Multiplayer gameplay became mainstream for consoles?

Hello Tim.

What are your thoughts on the linearity of current single player games that give the player little real freedom of game play, and only last a few hours.

And can you share your thoughts on the push for development of a completely open single player gaming environment, with multiple story lines, adaptive AI and virtually unending play time.

2. what is your opinion on opencl?

Tim,

Thanks for taking time to read and answer the questions we toss your way

  1. Now that the hardware is starting to catch up with  your engines, when will we see the Unreal Engine push the "Human" movement geometry to the true movement ability and look? AKA... Not able to "Bunny hop" with full gear, or... sweat as the player works or the weather element (effects vision, gun control, ect)?
  2. It seems that the next year or two we will see 3D and Multi-Monitor setups will become the sought after tech. What plans do you and your team have to leverage this new trend to it's max?
  3. Why are more and more games being "Ported" from consoles instead of truly designed for the PC?

Thanks for you answers!

Epics release of the Unreal Engine for use to the linux community as been a windfall for linux gaming and I for one would like to say Thank You.

Will the Unreal  Engine 4 be utilizing OpenGL 3.2 for rendering technology?

With many of Epics bigger game titles running the Unreal 3 Engine, will Epic Games start releasing some of their bigger game title natively for the linux platforms?

Hi, & thanks for taking the time to do this. Do you see games being written to take better advantage of 64-bit OSes in the near future? And do you think they'll have even better graphics? Oh, and what about SMP? If games are somewhat CPU limited, wouldn't it make sense to use a quad-core more effectively in games? Thanks.

2. What features are you planning to bring over from UE3, and what features are you planning to add into unreal engine 4?
3. When you design a game engine for the PC, Will You put alot of different things in it that other game developers dont.

Finally send me 3 T-Shirts please!

Just the one question.

On balance do you think your technologies are suited to allow players to lean?

What are your thoughts on the next generation of gaming interfaces (such as Natal) and their use with FPS?

Many new games appear to be developed with consoles in mind first, PC second. Do you think this trend will continue or now that newer technologies exist on the PC side, a shift back to PC focused games.

From a developers standpoint, do you feel that piracy is the real reason developers are leaving the PC or does it have more to do with being able to target a fixed set of hardware making development and debugging easier?

The Nintendo Wii seemed to catch many off guard with it's focus on unique interfaces and fun interactivity and less on graphic horsepower. Do you think that developers are becoming too focused on the quality of the graphics, animation and effects while missing the ball on gameplay and experience?

1. Do you two ever get confused while in the same room with someone else called Tim and someone says "Hey Tim!"

2. Can i use EVBOT to increase the performance of the latest Unreal Engine?

3.  Would i see any benefit from running the latest Unreal Engine on a Dual CPU motherboard compared to a single CPU board using the same hardware (eg. same graphics card set-up, same memory etc)?

Scrolling thru the questions here there are already some very good ones.

1. With Physx becoming a very large market, much more so than when UT3 was released, will we be seeing more Physx based content from Epic Games?

2. What can we expect from the future Unreal 4 Engine release? Anything mind blowing?

3. Is there anything new that you can sneak us a taste of coming in the future UT4?

When is/are the gaming community going to come out with another "space" game? Freespace was one of my faves, the physics were awesome. What, is everyone putting their dollars into FPS? No physics involved.

I don't understand why we've come so far with graphics, just to make games LESS immersive from a "player's" point of view, and so much more immersive from a "viewer's" point of view.

Yes, graphics have jumped ahead so far in the last 5 years, it's awesome. Great, but what do reviewers have to say about games? What do those that play said games have to say?

"Too short, but visually awesome."

"No story, but the graphics kick azz!"

"If I could afford a $6000 computer, I'd buy this game in a New York Second!"

Why is everything so complicated now?

Why can't I just drive a race car with good physics, and slide the tail in the corner?

Why can't I just fly a plane on "EASY", why do I have to be a master pilot?

Why can't I play a FPS and fight the Nazi's by myself, why the hell do I have to go online?

Where the hell are my socks with the red stripes on the top? I'm also missing one with blue stripes. Life is hell.

Got some stuff in a plastic box that's makes my screen turn on when I push the button on the front, cool.

I think it's aliens, but I'll have to confirm with voodoo do-er on that.

1) With the growing use of DRM in games, do you forsee a shift from DRM like SecuROM to something that is more tightly involved in the game's execution, say, the game engine itself?

2) Since DX11 is compatible with DX10 hardware, albeit slower, will the UR3 engine be patched for both DX10 & DX11 functionality (ie UR3.5) or would you instead prefer the engine to be rebuilt for the DX11 API only (ie UR 4)?

3) Technologically, what is the primary market for Unreal engine games?  Do you find most of your players tend towards higher end or mid-range systems?

I have only two questions:

1. It seems that the majority of PC games these days are created first on consoles and then ported to the PC. Are there any plans for working on a game engine that is fully optimized specifically for PC hardware, especially one that takes full advantage of multiple processors/cores?

2. DirectX 11 already upon us, yet there are still relatively few games on the market created for DirectX 10.1, with DirectX 9 still being somewhat the "standard". With that in mind, what are the plans for DirectX 11 utilization, or do you foresee it being another "red-headed stepchild" as DirectX 10.1 seemed to be?

Thank you for taking the time to answer questions for everyone here.

Mr. Sweeney,

1) Unreal Engine 3 is one of the most popular engines on the market right now, but it is starting to show it's age.  Any plans on updating the engine (Unreal Engine 4?) to compete with other engines, such as CryEngine?

2) Hardware tessellation is one of the big features that will debut with DirectX 11.  Will future Epic Games games have support for tessellation?

3) With Netbooks becoming a larger portion of the PC market, some developers are including a setting called "Netbook Mode" to lower graphics and sound to a level where the game is playable on low-spec Netbooks.  Will Epic Games be implementing a sort of this in future titles?

Hi, Tim. I've got a few questions for you:

  1. I've heard that over at Epic Games, Unreal Engine 4 has been in the works for quite some time. Any exciting news on the matter that you're willing and able to share with us?
  2. What's your opinion - professional or otherwise - on DirectX 11 and its features?
  3. With Unreal Engine 3 essentially being your brainchild, how does it feel to you that the game engine is so wildly popular with developers these days?

if ut3 engine was so extremely popular, is there any plan to redefine the unreal engine and to streamline everything.
(say to incorporate teh frozen engine (bf:bc) with ut engine) ?

Mr. Sweeney, it's a real pleasure to speak with you.

My question is more directed to you in your capacity as a developer/programmer and that is, given that many games and graphics engines are undertaken often years in advance of their release and with your given tools and resources at your disposal and the ability to create such expansive and immersive environments, do you ever get frustrated to the point where you feel you wish you could do more when, more often than not, these tools and resources often precede the hardware that these engines were designed to run on to exploit their potential? Thank you for your time.

Hello Tim,

(1) What games might be available for mobile phones in 2010?

(2) Will the "Unreal" engine take full advantage of "Fermi" when it becomes available, and what if any improvements will be made to the engine?

(3) Concerning "Unreal Lightmass", will fps take a major hit, or will some of the calculations be offloaded to the cpu?

Thank You for taking questions and have a nice day.

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it all...and then some you don't want.

1) The Unreal 3 and 4 Engine's are mostly an FPS engine (I assume the Unreal 4 Engine will be the same), are there plans in the near future for its use to become more universal of rpg's as well?

2) DirectX11 uses Tessellation which takes up many of the graphics cards resources, and decreases performance of the cards by about 39%-42%, are there any plans in motion to decrease this performance decrease with the unreal 4 engine in DirectX11?

3) What kind of aspects put the Unreal 4 Engine above all others?
