I was browsing NewEgg, looking at the different Founders cards and their dimensions...
PNY 10.50" x 4.38"
MSI 10.50" x 4.38"
Asus 10.50" x 4.38"
Zotac 10.50" x 4.38"
Gigabyte L=266.7 (10.5") W=111.1 mm (4.3740157")

And then
EVGA 10.50" x 5.94"

I wanted to go with EVGA but if that's accurate...  That's not going to fit...
Same with the ACX 3.0 version:

Height: 5.94in - 150.88mm
    Length: 10.5in - 266.7mm

Can I assume if an EVGA GTX 980 ti SC+ Gaming card can fit in my PC, that the GTX 1080 ACX will likely fit?
Or is it REALLY 5.94" tall not including power cable.

The 5.94 dimension would be more likely a classified or Kingpin card. Just from looking at pictures you can tell the card does not really extend past the mounting bracket on any of the releases. Also note that the "founders edition" is a reference design. Specifications will not vary from the Nvidia reference design. I think you can safely assume that the Evga card is the same.

Did you pull up the FTW ACX 3.0 or the SC ACX 3.0. ACX 3.0 only refers to the cooler, not which PCB it is attached to. The Ftw and Classified will have more phase and a wider PCB compared to reference. All other cards refer to the reference PCB, but you either listed the FTW or the classified.

Just looked at the specs on the founders card. It is a misprint. Someone mistakenly put the ftw dimensions which is obviously bigger. The dimensions would be the same as the vr edition.

So is it safe to assume the GTX 1080 SC ACX3.0 is the same width as the founders edition?

Yes indeed. If you send Newegg a message, they will correct it.

Founders Edition + SC = Reference Boards.

Yea they are the same height but people like Asus make their cards alot longer in length.  And EVGA makes their FTW cards shorter in length but taller in height.

So Asus's redesigned PCB is the same height as Reference but its Longer and EVGA's redesign has more height but its not as long as Asus

The 5.94" height is also listed in the spec sheet for EVGA's GTX 1080 Founders Edition on EVGA's website (this could be where the newegg fault stems from), although it makes no sense for the EVGA version to be any different to other Nvidia partner's on the reference design. EVGA's spec sheet for the GTX 1080 (plain) and ACX 3.0, SC Gaming ACX 3.0, FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 variants also list the 5.94" height but only the picture of the FTW ACX 3.0 appears to actually extend past the Mounting Bracket. I reported the potential mistake in the spec sheet to EVGA's support when it was first released, no response as yet.
