I'm looking for a dash cam that has good video and can run while my car is parked. I recently had my tire cut while at work that could have ended badly. Whoever did it did not cut all the way through so I was able to drive for a little before it gave out. I did not even notice which is scary...I was getting close to home when my pressure light and alarm went off and almost instantly my back slammed the ground. I almost nailed a car next to me but managed to hold it. Nice happening at 5 am right after work. It's not the first case of cars being damaged and we all know who did it but have no proof. $300 for one tire it cost me and could have possibly killed someone. I need a cam that either turns on with movement while parked or just runs while I'm parked. Maybe loops after a few hours since I'll be checking my car every few now. I can just back into a parking spot and that should catch most activity. I am beyond ticked at this right now and knowing who did it but can't make them pay for it drives me more mad. The guy at the dealership said he could see the cut then said it blew out and spread from that.

Dash cams are something i've been pondering myself as well. I've thought abut a gopro but in your case that would be way to obvious to the person doing it.

That looks like a nasty blow out. I am still running through reviews and prices. From what I see there are ones that have hidden storage which is good if the camera did get stolen because you still have video stored. Still would like it hidden but in our parking lot at work I almost want it seen to make the person stay away. My vehicle is only a year old...lol I don't want to have to pay for any damage. I mean if caught on video you can make them pay for it by taking it to court but would rather make people think twice first. Cheap models look to be $50-$100 that take SD cards. From reviews they work good and have clear video but if someone breaks in for the cam there is no point like you say. After that Prices just go up but you get different options. More hardwired to the car and will shut down if your car battery hits a percentage you set it at. moose517 Dash cams are something i've been pondering myself as well. Im torn between hidden and visible...lol Like I said above I'd like it to be seen and try to keep people away.

This guy https://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan does awesome reviews on all kinds of dash/action cameras. Check out his videos look to see which has the features you want. He also provides links to reputable vendors so you dont get a cheap chinese clone. Though a dash cam facing forward might not capture much if they're going for your tires

Our company uses Drivecam. It records constantly in a loop but the video is only sent after a certain g-force threshold is reached. So, it records about 10 seconds before the "event" and 10 seconds after. It then gets uploaded to a server but I think you can get a cheaper one that requires you to upload via usb. I hate it myself but they use the gps on it to track us and nit-pick everything we do. If we are caught even moving the truck without a seat belt, with anything electronic in our hands (including a mouse; even if you are attentive to the road ) rolling a stop sign ect ect, you are pretty much on your way to getting fired. It is not very hidden but it does record the inside and outside of the cab at the same time with audio and displays your speed/g force and lat and long location. I wish I could give you mine. LOL

I need one too, 2 days ago I was on the 110 Freeway heading towards the 91 and it has a huge turn, Speed limit is 20mph, The car in front of me was going like 10mph and there was a line behind us.. I wasn't too close, But I was tailgating him due to the fact that he was going super slow and the dude slammed his brakes on me! he started driving faster then slammed his brakes again. After we hit the straight way, I did something really stupid, But man he angered me so much. I went WOT and passed him, got in front of him and slammed my brakes to the point where he nearly crashed me (But I went WOT again and that's why he didn't hit me) at that point I didn't even care if he got rear ended... That's what he wanted anyways. GAH if he has a dash cam I'm screwed though, I have LED lights on my license plates and you can see them from far as hell LOL. amtek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LWOq62cY6U The Mini 0803 camera got an amazing review for image quality and night time recording. Wow that's really good quality... I want something that I can have a hard drive connected to... Do you know of anything like that? This is so that I don't have to keep changing or reviewing SD card footage... I'd rather have like 8TB's of memory stored under the passenger seat or something like that lol.

Here is what I have. http://www.amazon.com/Blueskysea-Detection-Recorder-G-sensor-Technology/dp/B00HMNFWYWyou can put in a 32GB card max, if you record at full 1080 then its 100MB a minute. CRAZY But it has motion sensor stuff but I didnt like the length it recorded. so with a 32GB card and continuous recording, it gives like 5 hours then starts copying over old stuff. You can set the recording blocks to be 3, 5, or 10 minute lengths I think. I have mine up by my review mirror and love it. The screen shuts off after 5 minutes so its not draining or distracting. Its wide angle is nice and for the price you could do 2, one in front and 1 in back, granted you would have to power it somehow. I picked it because it doesn't have GPS/speed in it. So it can't be used against me for speeding or something if I got called into court. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo76bkytA3o

Its 600 mb for ever 5 minutes of video or 120mb per minute @1080p, with a 32gig M-SD card you'll get 4.4 hours of continuous video. It would take you a complete 8.8 hours of continuous recording to completely overwrite all video. Continuous is the key word. If you plug it in to a switched power source it will only record when the car is on. If its connected to a constant power source and set to motion detector mode, it will only record when there is movement (when parked or driving) I think it saves the video 10 seconds prior and after whatever activated it so you dont miss any action. Its easy to hard wire this in. The plug is just a 12v to 5v USB adapter. You can take the plug apart and then hard wire it under your dash to the fuse box connected to a switched or constant source, then run the wire up the A-pillar and around the windshield frame and down to the camera (depending on the vehicle this may be easy or require a bit of work).

The way our Lot is If I back in someone would have to walk so far around and creep up with their back against the wall. If I don't let it be known the person will just walk up. If it is known then I hope it's enough to just keep them away. I don't want to pay for more damage. Thanks for all of the replies. I did have it down to a couple but I'm still unsure. I get picky when it comes to buying and have to look at everything available first to make sure I get the most out of it...lol

Get a game camera. One that only does IR so it's not noticed at night. No flash. Mount it somewhere outside the car. Like high up in a tree pointing down. Park under the tree. I use them all the time for hunting. The it cameras barely make any noise, if any. You don't know they are there.

^ This. If the answer is no, pay for one yourself - they are not excessively expensive these days. Just mount it looking out a window with a good view of the car park area and with enough resolution to identify individuals at a distance. Maybe with motion detectors/activation to alert you when someone is wondering around... Better yet, booby trap the car park, lol.

Due to the potential danger that this put you in, and the malicious nature, I would file a police report and tell them who you think is doing it and why and see if there is anything they can do about it like put up their own remote camera. When I worked at the county, they had remote cameras that they could set up for various tasks.

To be stealth, a friend of company car would be best, as long as the way the camera is pointing gives you enough coverage to see what is going on. It also seems there are a number of others who have also been impacted, as this technique may get a better view of everyone's cars.

I was 1.5 car lengths behind a guy on an on ramp so he decided to just stop and park his car in front of me... on an onramp to the freeway! LOL so I laid on my horn and got going and then I got around him with my sister's slow wimpy car and started to cut into his lane. Then I was like nah, and I left him behind. His car was better than what I was driving and the dumb ass just wanted to stop in front of me and then get on the freeway and cruise at 60 so I could catch up to him and do whatever I want. weird f***ing people on the road man. I swear one day one or two auto manufacturers are going to equip their car with dash cam and then everyone else will follow suit. everyone will be recording eachother's driving habits. Cops aren't going to care though, they would make some excuse about not even wanting to look at the video and just disregard it all. that's just how things end up working. speaking of dash cams and well, mustangs anyway... did you see the one about the guy who had the s197 v6 he took to the dealer for carbon build up, and he got them on camera driving the car saying something like "I'm going to drive the piss out of this son of a b**** until it clears" and then the guy told the manager there, manager got PO'd and then he eventually got a lawyer or police involved or something. Lol. I'm talking about a guy who put a camera in his car to record the folk DRIVING his own car hehe. So he eventually got the dealer to tell him he can swap his car for a brand new one but instead I think he got them to give him his $ back for his entire car. I was like **** fantasy land is this guy from. That kind of thing like never happens.

UnReal-4-Life Get a GoPRO has all you asked for. I like mines. That is a retread tire by the way if im not mistaken. Tread boarder and large sidewalls like that.
+1 get a GoPro, I would also file a police report since what someone did to your tire with the intent to cause you harm. I would also let your employer know. If you would had been going fast and it went, would had probably ended very badly for you.
