Installed EVGA Hybrid coolers onto my Titan X's. Everything was working fine for a day. I had installed EVGA Precision, applied an OC of 1400Mhz Core and 8Ghz VRAM. Left the fan on auto and everything was working great. Cool temps and low noise levels. I restarted a couple of times without issue. This morning I decided to hop on my PC and now the fans that came with the GPU's/stock cooler are running maxed out! I've already power drained my rig, reset CMOS, uninstalled the drivers and disabled EVGA Precision. Nothing works and the fans aren't responding to software. Obviously the only time they spin down is when I power off. Anyone?

#1 Remove GPU fan shroud and make sure the GPU fan cable is fully seated and secure to the GPU PCB fan header.

#2 Make sure the card is fully seated to the MB. Make sure the PCI-E power cables are fully seated and secure at the PSU side & GPU side.

#3 Uninstall all monitoring software. (Precision, Afterburner, Speedfan, HWMonitor, etc.)

#4 Perform a clean installation of video drivers.
    1. Uninstall Precision X/Afterburner if installed, make sure to select "no" to saving profiles if asked.  Reboot the PC now if you had to uninstall PX or Afterburner.
    2. Download & save graphics driver 359.00 to your desktop. Run the graphics installer located on your desktop once the download is complete.
    3. Select custom advanced install, under custom installation options uncheck all options except the physx system software, if you have a 3D capable monitor and would like to use 3D at some point please select both 3D options, check mark perform clean install, then click next to install the driver, reboot when asked.
If you're still having problems after performing steps 1-4 RMA the card as the fan controller on the GPU has a problem.

I don't think it's how I installed the Hybrid kit because everything was fine up until I booted the PC this morning. I'll remove drivers again along with Precision but I doubt it's software related because they run at full speed when the PC boots up and before drivers/software kick in.

It's normal for the fans to spin up when booting until the driver or fan control software loads.

The fans won't spin down anymore. They run maxed out until I power off my PC. Drivers and EVGA Precision are uninstalled. Problem persists. Everything was working fine until I powered up my PC this morning.

I'm going to take out both Titan X's and test them both out one at a time. If that doesn't work I'll go ahead and remove the shrouds to see if maybe something came loose by itself. So frustrating.....

Checked the fan cables on the card/pump, reinstalled windows, reset cmos, power drained my rig, flashed bios to stock BIOS on both cards..nothing. Looks like the pump went to hell when I powered it on this morning. Either that or it somehow messed up the fan header on my card. What a pain and waste of my Sunday.

If the pump quit working, that would explain the fan running full bore I would think.  That's a bummer.  Time to RMA.

Well I'm pretty sure the pump is still working because temps are fine. Thinking it's the fan sensor?

Yeah, since temps are good, the pump must be operating properly.  If you're not running any fan control software, then your theroy about the fan sensor could be the issue.

I've swapped out pumps as well as switched PCI-E slots. Problem persists. If I messed up a wire during instalation then I would have ran until this problem immediately. Not sure why it worked great for a day and then the next morning the blower fan wanted to run at max speed as soon as i powered on my PC. What a nightmare....

I found the culprit. It's the EVGA Hybrid Pump. Since it share's power with the blower fan, it must have messed something up on my card. I'm guessing it's my cards sensor since software no longer reports the blower fan RPM's. I'm not the only person that has run into this issue. There are a few people on these forums as well as user reviews online that mention it. I tried 3 different pumps, switched computers, switched the stock blower fan and nothing worked. I installed the stock cooler back onto the card and the fan still runs at max speed. I no longer have the receipt for my PNY Titan X and I lost the account info so I can't print it out either so it looks like I'm screwed! Thanks EVGA! Folks, if you are planning on installing an EVGA Hybrid onto your graphics card, you better hope that you will be able to RMA it if something goes bad.

It might not neccecearily be the pump that did it, i have read quite a few posts here and there where people's Titan X have decided to start running it's fan at 100% speed permanently.
This is the first thread i have seen where it came from installing a Hybrid kit.

The Titan X appears to have a very fragile fan Controller that can decide to just go bad whenever it feels like.

I would believe that it decided to go bad by itself but since the Hybrid Pump was sharing power with the stock blower fan and it decided to go haywire a day after installing it, I'm  positive it was the pump at fault. Others with Hybrid 980 Ti's/Hybrid Titan X's have reported the same issue out of the box and there's a few others on here that have the same issue after installing the Hybrid kit on their Titan X's.

    Hi guys,

I have mentioned on another thread that I'm about to install hybrid coolers on both of my Titan X's. What came of this issue in the end?

My hybrid coolers are still in the sealed boxes, so I'm unsure whether to open and install them and hope that the fan controller/sensors are ok or to just send them back to the supplier get my money back and stick with the reference fans until I upgrade to pascal sometime in the future.

To be fair I'm not unhappy with the performance of the Titan X's in sli, I was just hoping to reduce the overall temperatures because they hit 83oC fairly quick during gaming.

    Your opinions/experience is appreciated!
    Thanks.

I have had Hybrid kits on my two Titan X cards for about 6 months now, and the fan controller/sensor is still working fine.
(computer must have been started/restarted 1000's of times by now).

Since the fan controller on the 900 Series seem a little flaky, especially when adding a Hybrid kit
(they can go bad on their own, but seem to die faster with a Hybrid kit) i decided to use an adapter like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-ZM-MC1-Multi-connector-Add-Fan/dp/B000FAKUE6

Using this adapter, you will reduce the stress put on the GPU's fan controller/sensor
(the radiator fan+blower fan and the Pump is normally piggybacked into the same connector on the GPU).

And if you use one of the white connectors, you are giving the radiator fan a constant 5V (which will make it extremely quiet).

Why you are not satisfied with performance of TITAN X SLI?
Did you compare 3DMark results with other people?
Bunch of people here use Hybrid coolers without problem on different cards and it's little stupid to keep Hybrid coolers in box because few people had some problems. You say temperatures are 85C... Hybrid will drop them for 20-25C instantly I would check few video clips to confirm everything from user manual and install them.

Hi, thanks for the quick replies.

    To Vlada011
Sorry I think you misunderstood what I said.
I am happy with the performance of the Titan X's in sli with the stock cooler, the only reason I was going to use a hybrid is to run it cooler rather than overclocking.
I've only just bought the hybrid coolers, im trying to work out whether it's worth me installing them as the more I've been researching forums it seems that there's plenty of people that have run into this fan controller/sensor issue and I don't want to chance having to RMA a card if it becomes faulty because of the hybrid coolers.

    To superconker
I have a Nzxt Sentry 3 fan controller and I'm curious to whether I could use that on the pump/fans?

    Thanks for your help!

I'm sure you can connect the radiator fan to the Nzxt fan controller, as the Hybrid radiator-fan is just a regular fan with a 3-pin connector.

Awesome, so I would just run the radiator fan at 100%?

I assume the stock fan will just stay plugged into the card as normal with zero piggybacking?

    Thanks!

Yes, the stock GPU blower-fan will still be connected to the GPU like normal.

You can lower the fan speed with the Nzxt fan-controller, to make the radiator-fan more quiet if you want.
Something like 50-75% speed should be more than fine.

I'm having a similar issue with the fans.

Just put together a mini-ITX system using the 'In Win D-Frame' case. Installed a Titan X onto it this evening and performed a clean installation of Windows 10 onto a Samsung Evo 850 500GB SSD. The Titan was working just fine up until Windows 10 did it's automatic updates(drivers). Afterwards, the fan kicks in at full speed constantly. I tried downloading the latest nVidia drivers and performed a clean installation. No matter what, the fan keeps kicking in at full speed the entire time it's in Windows.

If I leave the PC sitting in BIOS, or booting to 'Mini Windows XP (HBCD)'.. the fan is normal.

If the hybrid did cause this thats a pretty serious issue that EVGA should look at.

Are you using the hybrid cooler??
