Since the 980 Ti is based on the Titan X and NVidia apparently tackled coil whine more on those cards I would imagine you would see less reports about coil whine on the 980 Ti's

they did not completely tackle it. the Titan X has some coil whine and the 980 Ti does too. its no where near as bad as some of the 970 cards though.

This is why I would buy from Amazon, no restock fee. EVGA and other sellers want to charge a restock fee. I returned about 5 780's for excessive coil whine... Excessive, meaning I could hear it in the other room. Finally, I found a 780ti Classified that did not have coil whine...

none here on 980 ti SC, but can you even hear that if your fans are at 100%?

100%? That must be making some noise... I doubt you would hear coil whine with the fans that loud. 

the reference fan at 100% is like a form of torture.

It definitely loud but not as bad once I put on headphones.  My biggest worry is if fans go 100% all the time will it wear them out and card will die a lot sooner?

I don't have any. I have the reference card. I've never had coil whine. I had 2 580's,2 680's,2 780's, a 980 and now a 980ti. No coil whine

lol then you have poor hearing. really you probably just dont notice it with your case closed but its there to some degree. its even mentioned in some titan x and 980 ti reviews that its there plus some of those other cards you owned most certainly had it. I have been lucky so far to never have it to the degree that some 970 cards had it. 

My 770 ACX was making an awful noise on/off that I assumed was coil whine. The problem wasn't the card. Because I live in an old house- my room, desk, and tower were all unlevel. Without being square/plum, the fans vibrate enough to cause the front plate to move around and vibrate against the whole card. I didn't know how badly unlevel things were until I place a level on top of my tower. Having finally discovered the issue, I propped up the tower accordingly, got it perfectly level, and now my PC is quite silent even under load (thanks to a Noctua NH-D14 heatsink and fans, so the loudest component is the GPU fans). If you are experiencing a loud noise from your GPU, check to see if your tower is level first.

Thought that I would answer this thread after having bought one. I do not have bad coil whine. It is only present in extreme situations, like over 1000 FPS.

It does have coil whine but it's nothing major like 970 so it should be fine for most people.

700 series was pretty bad as well... These newer cards only have it slightly with very high FPS...
